I haven't been checking anything Kingdom Hearts in a while but I made my boyfriend play BBS and remembered about it. Decided to check the stuff about 3D and I have to admit I don't understand the plot at all. Are they dreaming ? I tagged this as spoiler because I wouldn't mind some seeing as I'm lost.
Edit: The Rainbow Enemy things.... Tetsuya, what have you smoked?

They are going to the Realm of Sleep to take the Mark of Mastery exam and save worlds that have fallen asleep. The rainbow enemies are Dream Eaters.

Sora, and Riku entered the Realm of Sleep.

The need to unlock the seven Keyholes of Sleep in order to save the worlds that are trapped within the Realm of Sleep.

Sora, and Riku are young again, because Yen Sid is retraining them. They need to unlearn everything the learned before so they have apparently returned the ages that they were when they first gained the power to wield the Keyblade.

The enemies they face are the Dream Eaters.

Spirits, the brightly colored ones, are friendly whereas Nightmares, the darker ones, are not.

The entire game does not take place within the Realm of Sleep, and the Mark of Mastery, the initial reason why they are in the Realm of Sleep, is only a small portion of the game.

This game will introduce retcons that will alter the series completely.

An example is the retcon introduced in Birth By Sleep.

In Kingdom Hearts II, it was clear that a Nobody looks different than their original. Xemnas looked different than Xehanort, Roxas looked different than Sora, and Namine looked different than Kiari. It was never stated, but heavily implied.

Birth By Sleep, and the interviews leading up to it, altered this. Now, the presence of a heart is what decides what someone looks like. Roxas looks different than Sora, because Ven's heart was trapped within Sora's body and could not leave. Nobodies now look exactly like their original selves, and they don't age.

Roxas, Namine, and Xemnas are now "special Nobodies", because something makes them different so that they can still look different than their original selves.

Dream Drop Distance will most likely make further changes to Nobodies, the effect a heart has on appearance, what Namine is, etc.

So Dream Drop Distance is going to be a big entry to the series.

Sora and Riku are going for their Mark of Mastery exams, like Terra and Aqua did in Birth by Sleep. Yen Sid is administering the exams to them and is sending them into the Realm of Sleep to prove themselves worthy of being Masters.

The Realm of Sleep contains worlds that never returned to the Realm of Light, and the RoS is also unreachable by Heartless. The rainbow things are called Dream Eaters and they're your enemies in Dream Drop Distance. Nightmares are the ones you fight and Spirits are the ones that fight along side of you.

RoS is Realm of Sleep. So wouldnt Ventus be there ? also what does AX stand for ?

How is The Xehanort dude in there and why do they look like children again ? Whats Vanitas doing there too? Why is there Xion Pointing her KB at Roxas during the CGI. Why are Riku Sora attacking MX and why does he turn to paper?

He very well could be. AX = Apprentice Xehanort.

They look like their KH1 selves again apparently because it's necessary for the story line, but they also appear as their KH2 selves.

The CGI is more up to interpretation and not too literal, but Xion did fight Roxas in Days. Riku and Sora are attacking Master Xehanort because it's symbolic to the fight they're going to have with him, and the paper is sheet music. The CGI is just going to be the opening so don't worry about it too much.

Ventus is inside Sora.

also what does AX stand for ?

Apprentice Xehanort.

How is The Xehanort dude in there

Which one? There are multiple ones together, and the only way to understand how is to wait for the changes to the series. Retcons are going to be added to Dream Drop Distance.

and why do they look like children again ?

They need to relearn how to use the Keyblade. It's temporary.

Whats Vanitas doing there too?

We don't know yet. The retcons will explain this as well as why Isa is young again.

Why is there Xion Pointing her KB at Roxas during the CGI. Why are Riku Sora attacking MX and why does he turn to paper?

All of that was just to make it more dramatic. It might mean something, but I think it's just a trailer being a trailer.

The game isn't even out yet, so you can't expect all these questions to have answers already. Since those were scenes from the opening sequence, they shouldn't really be taken literally anyway.

I wouldn't really call them retcons. Lack of understanding is different from lack of understanding due to no legitimate answers.

I missed there being a pic of Isa in DDD. Mind linking me to one?

The grey streaks are probably beacause of being influenced by whatever form of Xehanort; Nomura stated that Braig's much younger than he looks.

Exactly, there are just unexplained plot mysteries so far, not "retcons".
That word gets thrown around way too often and way to easily.

Yep, just like the golden eyes and pointy ears, it's probably a Xehanort-connection due to Braig being hinted as one of Xehanort's "seeds".

Just watch all four trailers (the first one isn't that helpful though) and you'll be as caught up as any of us.

In Kingdom Hearts II, it was clear that a Nobody looks different than their original.

On the contrary, Xemnas told Sora that "You [being Sora] looked just like HIM [being Roxas]"

And then not long after said to Roxas the famous line "He looks just like you"

While out of universe, the differences are apparent, in universe, it was always the intent that they look just alike.

Xemnas looked different than Xehanort, Roxas looked different than Sora, and Namine looked different than Kiari. It was never stated, but heavily implied.

They all "smell" the same.
However, I'm not sure Sora smelled like Roxas.

Birth By Sleep, and the interviews leading up to it, altered this. Now, the presence of a heart is what decides what someone looks like.

That's always been the case, even in KH1.

Roxas looks different than Sora, because Ven's heart was trapped within Sora's body and could not leave.

Ven's heart also shaped Sora's appearance, which in turn shaped Roxas' appearance.

Nobodies now look exactly like their original selves

Actually, we see Axel looks the same as Lea. So we know that "special nobodies" have a different set of rules than regular nobodies.

and they don't age.
Before that was confirmed, the theory used to be them aging slower due to being in the
RIB. [The closer you move to darkness, the slower time goes. Which is why Aqua looks exactly the same.]

Dream Drop Distance will most likely make further changes to Nobodies, the effect a heart has on appearance, what Namine is, etc.

Namine is literally Nothingness personified.

She has no heart, body, soul, or memories of her past life. He first three are all that is required to exist.

Maybe she is a spatial anomaly that cannot exist in the RoL.
