This is a fanfiction for my RP Division by Zero. It explains some of what happened before the RP began. This story centers on what happened to Goofy and the Disney Knights, hence the name. If you're interested we are always accepting new characters.

This is a one-shot, but the characters will appear in other one-shots revealing more of the back story of Division by Zero.

The black shadows poured out of the darkness with their little yellow eyes searching hungrily for prey. The Heartless were entrenched here, and they fed off the darkness of these peoples’ hearts. The world was corrupted with darkness.

“What caused it to become like this?” Ona asked, looking down at the writhing mass of Heartless. She glanced up at her superior in his armor.

“This world is so close to the darkness,” Eiki said, “it attracts the Heartless.” He pulled his helmet down over his head, the tall ear like protrusions making it clear that he was the commanding officer. “But,” he continued, “our job is too keep them under control.” He stood up to his full height, standing tall over Ona. His armor covered his whole body, like any Knight’s armor, but his had the extra accruements that marked his rank as a Captain. “Are you ready, Ona?”

“Yessir,” she replied, standing up, but still much shorter than her captain. “Sir,” she asked, hesitatingly, “do you think we’ll find him?”

Eiki’s expression softened underneath his mask, feeling sorry for his young apprentice, but he couldn’t bring himself to lie to her. “No, Ona, I think Goofy is much farther in the darkness.” Ona’s face fell, but she pulled on her helmet, its shorter earpieces marking her apprentice status. She nodded solemnly to him, and he nodded back.

Sixth months ago….

Eiki stood before King Mickey at parade rest, waiting for whatever he’d been called here for. The summons had come in the middle of the night, and woken the Knight from his sleep. The urgent summon had left him standing before the King in nothing more than his robe.

Mickey paced in the small library, making Eiki nervous with his odd behavior. He’d never seen the king so rattled before. “Do you remember the mission Goofy went on?” King Mickey asked suddenly.

“Of course,” Eiki nodded, “you sent him after the man who attempted to kill you, your majesty.” Eiki remembered his failure well. Somehow a man in black had managed to evade the guards and even Eiki himself to get right up to the King. The man had failed to even scratch King Mickey, but Goofy still went after him.

“Yes, well, he hasn’t reported in,” Mickey said, his high voice cracking slightly. Eiki blinked slowly, unable to comprehend exactly what the King meant. “We have to presume that he is gone.”

“Sir,” he said, “I don’t think we can say that just yet.”

“Even if we can’t, we have to assume the worst,” Mickey said, turning to face Eiki face to face. “Eiki,” Mickey took a deep breath before continuing, “you’re captain of the Knights now.”

On the dark world….

Eiki and Ona stood before the rest of the Knights on the rooftop. Eiki knew the names and faces of all the men and women he saw before him, and he trusted each one of them with his life. “Brothers and sisters, we’ve found the last bastion of Heartless. We are so close to our goal and I can taste victory.” Eiki could see their smiles as he said this. He couldn’t help but smile too. “Today we will fight, and we will push back the darkness from this world. To victory!”

Eiki kept it brief and to the point, turning and pulling his sword from the air. He looked back over his shoulder and motioned for the charge before stepping over the edge of the roof. Ona followed right after him, calling her blade as the air whistled by her. They landed on the opposite side of the square from the writhing blackness, weapons drawn and ready.

Eiki and Ona charged forwards, the rest of the Knights following them into the darkness with weapons shining. The Heartless fell quickly before their attack and against the strength of their hearts. Useless attacks bounced off their armor as they cut easily through the shadows.

Disney Castle, a few days later….

Eiki stood before the King again, but in full armor, his helmet tucked under his arm. “Sire, we cleared the last nest of Heartless and pushed the darkness from the world it had taken.” Eiki bowed to Mickey, and waited for a moment before rising again.

Mickey nodded to the him, “Anything else to report, Captain?”

“Actually, sir,” Eiki said, holding out his hand. In a burst of light a shield appeared in his open hand.

The King stepped back, stunned, “It’s… his?”

Eiki just nodded, his eyes filling with tears. “Yes, your majesty. I know it too well to think anything else.”

“I understand, Captain.”

Eiki set the shield on the desk gently, “I’ll leave it with you, your majesty. Is that all?” Mickey nodded, still watching the shield, and Eiki let himself out quietly, leaving the King to his thoughts. Eiki headed back across the castle grounds toward the Knights’ Quarters, wanting to be alone.

There will be more. Maybe. This part is intended to be a one-shot though.
