That'd be a problem, but if he felt better afterwards ... ;_;
Thinking it over a bit more, we truly do not know yet if the "traitor" is
really evil and wants the end of the world as that "lost page" in the book of prophecies says or if the circumstances are much more complicated.
In the newest trailer Ira speaks of events/incidents happening that were not foreseen/not stated in the book so there is still the possibility around that the book of prophecies is NOT omniscent after all and whatever is written in its pages is NOT set in stone for good.
I don't believe any of the Foretellers are the traitor. More precisely, I don't believe any of the Foreteller's actions are of ill intent. And it could be that each Foreteller is "traitorous" in their own way.
I don't think SE would make players feel like they've picked the wrong side. So even if just one of them turns out to be the "traitor", it'll be done a way so that players from any faction, whether they're part of that Foreteller's or not, don't feel that way.
*hugs all the Foretellers on principle*
You bring up a sound point with that as denouncing one specific union/group as the traitorous "evil" ones could not only lead to a mass exodus from that union but also to some stigmatising around fandom as a whole.
I've noticed that quite much around the net in general with people who claim to be actually fans of characters who are very clearly depicted as despicable and/or do despicable things regularily.
Then still though, helping to bring about the destruction of a whole universe, ill intentions or not, is still not something that can be counted as excusable nor will it bring the characters in question many plus points.
This somehow reminds me of quite some reactions and attitudes towards Shinji Ikari after the third Rebuild-Evangelion movie came out where it was confirmed that his reckless behaviour in the finale of the second movie (back then often hailed as "Shinji finally doing something badass") resulted in a near-Third Impact that wiped out more than 50% of humanity and made the Earth a nearly uninhabitable wasteland.
He was of course used as a pawn the whole time by the conspirators in the background, one of which is his own father, and never wanted to cause something like that, but still...possible similarities.
For all we know the Master of Masters didn't have a speaking role in the story yet, in [chi] the traitor is first mentioned by Chirithy to the respective Foreteller after the other Chirithy dies.
Which makes me wonder about if the widely accepted and known interpretation by big parts of the fandom that the traitor is truly working for the Darkness and willingly bringing about the Apocalypse has got actually any reasonable hints or pointers in x[chi]/Unchained at all.
I remember even in one of the older trailers where there were only voice-overs of the Foreteller's on the awakening platform of the unions it was said that "that page says one will betray all" or something along these lines.
That this means "one will betray the whole universe (the "all" in question) and lead it to ruin" is certainly a viable interpretation, but certainly not the
only one.
I want to believe he's just the typical kid rebel who sits on tables and acts like he isn't paying attention which is why he has his back turned. xD
Although I'm one of the people who believes there isn't a traitor and they are all just being played by somebody to kickstart the prophecy, I do think it is suspicious Ira seems to be this overall good-doer kind of guy. The trailer paints him as this earnest person who is trying to solve the mystery of the book's words, find the traitor, and stop the war from happening, but it is done at the cost of painting Aced as some kind of bad guy.
So we have options here. Either the focus on Aced and Ira is a red herring and the true traitor is somebody who we will least expect, either Aced or Ira are the traitor, or there is no traitor among the Foretellers.
I can easily imagine that Aced is doing everything we see because he is trying to do the right thing. Maybe he has his own suspicions about who the traitor is and is taking justice into his own hands. If it means fighting against his fellow Foretellers to show them that following their master's teachings are leading them to this war, then that is what he must do...but that doesn't make him a traitor.
And I want to believe Ira is a good person with good intentions as well.
Ah, you mean he's in "that" phase, lol.
I'm pretty reluctant to make any definitive statements about it as well with the current measure of info we have. Even if the book
says there is a traitor maybe relying and going too much by the book is exactly what
is the primary error in the first place. Instead of thinking for themselves, the Foretellers seem to rely on their copies of the Prophecy-book way too heavily and the dangerous prophecy of the end of the world being in there could indeed be placed there just to bring the whole thing about.
Some may roll their eyes at this but the more I see and observe of this whole issue the more it strikes me as similar to the "Sith Grand plan" in Star Wars which was carried out for several decades until it culminated in the Clone Wars where Darth Sidious was secretly controlling or at least influencing all sides (and with each side believing he was actually one of them) until a point was reached where he could drop the final hammer strike. The Jedi, the Republic, the Confederacy, all just pawns in a big game full with a net of schemes and intrigue to secure dictatorical power for a single being.
The Clone Wars did not result in an literal Apocalypse, but it was nonetheless a devastating three year-conflict that left much of the galaxy in ruins, ready to be taken over by the "New Order" of the Empire.
Aced at least to me comes over more as quite a hot-headed guy who likes to let actions speak before really deeply thinking things through while Ira seems to prefer a more cautious approach with a little trickery on the side, with the latter being something of a trigger/berserk button for Aced.
In the trailer Invi also calls Aced out for overreacting so maybe that's just part of his rather rash personality.
These are also all valid points, hence why I do refrain from pointing any fingers yet.
