CLARIFICATION: This does not take place in the cannon of the KH universe.
Without further ado, I present to you, my first ever piece of fan fiction (and KH fan fiction), Kingdom Hearts: Time & Memory. Enjoy!
Spoiler ShowA black coated figure walks towards another one resting his back on a big rock while seeing the Dark Meridian's horizon.
Unknown Man: I've been to see him. He looks a lot like you.
Roxas: Who're you?
Unknown Man: I'm what's left. Or... Maybe I'm all there ever was.
Roxas: I meant your name.
Unknown Man: My name is of no importance. What about you? Do you remember your true name?
Roxas: My true name... is... So... ra...?
Unknown Man: You have... been with us... for six... days... nnnooowww...
Roxas wakes up, scratching the back of his head.
Roxas: Ugh. That same dream again...
Just as Roxas was about to lay back, he notices Sora behind him.
Roxas: Woah!
Sora: You alright, sleepy head?
Roxas: Gimme a break, Sora!
Sora: Haha! Been having some weird thoughts lately?
Roxas: No, just a dream.
Sora: What was the dream about?
Roxas: A small conversation I had with Xemnas on my sixth day in the Organization.
Sora: Wow! You counted your days on the group?
Roxas: Yeah. Roxas scratches the back of his head. But if you ask me why I did that, I can't say. Maybe because Axel suggested I do so.
Sora: Well, at least it gave you purpose!
Roxas: Purpose?
Sora: Yeah! It made you look forward to whatever tomorrow was to bring you!
Roxas: Hmm... Now that you say that, yeah, it makes sense. I always wanted to go on a mission with Axel or Xion the next day and have our usual friendly chat atop the clock tower, all while eating sea salt ice cream.
Sora: See! Life's short for those that live all of it. Like us! So we have to make every single day count, treasure it as if it were our last.
Roxas giggles.
Roxas: You really are an interesting fellow, Sora!
Sora: Hey! You're alive and well thanks to me!
Roxas: Haha! I really owe you a thank you for not just saving me, but for creating me, too.
Sora: Well, you're welcome! Anything for a friend.
In a friendly manner, Roxas wags his index finger at Sora.
Roxas: We're practically brothers, y'know.
Sora: Like twin brothers?
Roxas: Haha! Sort of.
Sora: I wonder... Do we have twin-like powers and communicate through our minds?
Roxas: I don't know... But I remember feeling the same things you did.
Sora: Really?
Roxas: Yeah. Like when you defeated Marluxia, I felt a surge of satisfaction.
Sora: I was kind of having a hard time dodging his attacks and making out through his copies, so it was sort of a relief I finally beat him!
Roxas: Yeah....
Sora: But how could you tell I defeated him?
Roxas: Marluxia and the rest of the members that went to Castle Oblivion were considered a "dream team" of sorts, so news of their defeat was rapidly reported. Just before that, I felt that surge of satisfaction I mentioned. Back then I had no idea what was going on with me, but now that I think about it, it all makes sense now.
Sora: Wow! I never thought we were that connected by that.
Roxas: Yeah, you'd be amazed at the things I had to go through just because of the state you were in...
Unknown: I've been to see him... He looks a lot... like... YOU!
Roxas: Whoa! Roxas falls to the ground.
Sora: What's wrong?!
Roxas: I had that same dream... no... flashback.
Sora: Could it mean something? We ARE in Castle Oblivion. Memories are pretty much something here.
Roxas: Mean something? Roxas stands up from the ground and wipes the dust out of his clothes. I wonder...
Sora: Got any ideas, twin?
Roxas: No, but calling me twin isn't resolving anything.
Sora: Yeah... What should I call you then?
Roxas: Roxas, like you always do. My friends just call me that.
Sora: Right, Roxas. But maybe remembering isn't what you're after.
Roxas: What do you mean?
Sora: Maybe what would trigger something is remembering what you're remembering!
Roxas: Uh... I don't follow you, Sora.
Sora: Ah! Give me a sec to explain myself better.
Roxas: Okay...?
Sora: Right! That thing you're remembering, are you remembering it right?
Roxas: Uh...
Sora: Is there anything different about it?
Roxas: Hmm...
Roxas tries to vividly remember that particular moment of his past life as Sora's Nobody.
Unknown Man: You have been with us for six days now.
The unknown man removes his hood to reveal the face of a young man in his mid twenties that has long, straight and silver hair with two long bangs in front of his clean face, eyes with an amber coloration and a tanned skin.
Roxas: The man I remember... Is not Xemnas.
Sora: Really?
Roxas: Yeah. And I'm not making things up. He, the Superior, like we used to call him in the Organization, wanted to meet with me personally. I was nervous since, you know, he was my boss back then. But now that I think about it, the memories don't match-up.
Sora: What do you think this could mean?
Roxas: Could it be Castle Oblivion?
Sora: I don't know, but we should check your memories out... Personally.
Roxas: What?
Sora: Oh, I forgot. You've never been here, right?
Roxas: Yeah, but the surge of memories knocked me out cold for a couple of days.
Sora: Hmm... Well, in this place, you can relive your memories.
Roxas: Really?
Sora: Yeah!
Roxas: So what you're trying to say is that I should relieve my memories in order to find out what's going on?
Sora: Exactly!
Roxas: Then how can we do that?
Sora: We just go through this door and... Oh, right...
Roxas: What's wrong?
Sora: We need a card.
Roxas: A card?
Sora: Yeah. Otherwise, we can't get in.
Roxas: Then how could you traverse through the floors of this place? Or Riku?
Sora: The first time I entered this place Marluxia gave me a card and whichever other member of the Organization I encountered gave me one, too.
Roxas: Ah! Do you think someone's manipulating MY Chain of Memories?!
Sora: I can't say, but I think Naminé can.
Sora reaches to his right pocket and grabs a walkie-talkie like gadget. He raises its antenna and begins talking.
Sora: Master Yen Sid?
Yen Sid: Sora, how goes the examination of Castle Oblivion?
Sora: I've yet to find anything interesting, but we sort of have a problem sir.
Yen Sid: What seems to be the problem?
Sora: Roxas seems to be experiencing some sort of memory problem.
Yen Sid: Could you go into more detail?
Sora: Yes. He seems to be misremembering.
Yen Sid: Truly?
Sora: Yes. We believe someone may very well be manipulating his Chain of Memories. I thought that if I talked to you you could line me with Naminé.
Yen Sid: But of course.
Sora: Okay.
. . .
Naminé: Sora?
Sora: Naminé! Good to hear your!
Naminé: Hmm, hmm! Good to hear you too, Sora.
Sora: Did Master Yen Sid tell you?
Naminé: Yes. Roxas seems to not be remembering things right, yes?
Sora: Yeah. He says someone else is turning up in his memories instead of being the correct person.
Naminé: Hmm...
Sora: I was wondering if you could determine whether or not someone is messing up with his memories like you... sort of did... back... then....
Naminé: Don't worry, Sora. I understand what I did back then and am ready to make amends for it.
Sora: Sorry, but good to hear that.
Naminé: Anyways, if Roxas is remembering someone else instead of the correct person, then this could be the work of someone manipulating his memories.
Sora: I knew it!
Roxas: Did she tell you anything?
Sora: Yeah! Someone IS manipulating your memories!
Roxas: Oh... But what for?
Naminé: I can't answer that question, but I can tell you that if someone has that power, then he or she should not be taken lightly. Sora?
Sora: Uh huh?
Naminé: If this is happening now then it means said person must be inside the castle, so be careful.
Sora: Okay.
Naminé: I'll tell Riku to go to the castle in-case you need help.
Sora: Thanks.
Naminé: No problem.
With his conversation finished, Sora pushes the gadget's antenna back down and puts it back on his right pocket.
Roxas: So what should we do now?
Sora: Search for who is messing up with your memories. If he's doing it, it's for a purpose. Maybe he wants to slowly brainwash you and make you do whatever he wants. You ARE a very powerful Keyblade Wielder and a Guardian of Light, so anyone would want to get their hands on someone with that ability.
Roxas: Yeah...
With that said, our heroes decide to go through the door in front of them, but...
Sora: Ah! I knew I forgot something!
Roxas: What's wrong?
Sora: We need a card to get through this door.
Roxas: Oh yeah...
Familiar Voice: Need this, Sora?
Sora: Huh? Whoa!
Sora thinks fast and grabs with his left hand a card.
Sora: This is the card!
Roxas: We can go through the door now?
Sora: Yeah! Thanks, Riku!
Riku: No problem.
He said as he approached Sora and Roxas, all while the Corridor of Darkness he had used slowly closed itself.
Riku: Naminé said you might need it.
Sora: I'll have to thank her later.
Riku: Let's hope you don't forget!
Sora: Hey! I'll write it on my journal!
The three started laughing.
Riku: So Sora, give Roxas the card so he can do the honors.
Sora: Okay. Here, Roxas. Sora extended his hand and gave Roxas the card. Roxas reached for it and grabbed it, slowly examining it.
Riku: There's not much to the card, really. It's like a blank slate: nothing on it.
Roxas: What do I do with it?
Sora: Stand in front of the door and raise the card.
Roxas: Okay.
Roxas did as instructed and the card began to shine at the same time the door did. Suddenly, a thick flash of light filled the room, momentarily blinding our heroes. The light slowly began to disappear.
Roxas: That's it?
Riku: Wait for it...
The door slowly began to open itself. Once it did, Roxas could see what was inside of it: the Dark Meridian, the same place he met Xemnas that day, the same memory he was misremembering.
Roxas: This is it...
Sora: Is this what you're misremembering?
Roxas: Yeah.
Riku: Then let's go and see who this mysterious other character is.
With that said, the trio entered the door. Roxas entered first, followed by Sora and, just when Riku entered and the door slowly began to close itself, he noticed a dark robed figure in the room they were in. He gave him a brief glare and the door closed on both of them.
Unknown Man: Delve deep into your memories, Roxas. You will only re-initiate it. Hahaha!
The unknown man opened a Corridor of Darkness and disappeared alongside it.
