i mean that‘s cute and all but the trailer is not going to attract new fans to the franchise, there‘s literally no gameplay at all?

I honestly don’t think this trailer is meant to attract new fans. I think this is more just an announcement for the diehards and to debut Utada’s re-record. I don’t think too many non-fans will be going out of their way to watch this trailer anyway.

Looking back, the Switch and EGS versions didn’t have any gameplay either. It was just more palatable because they were short and not stretched to fit a 5 minute song. I do hope they’ll consider doing a launch trailer at SGF with some gameplay. That’s where they’ll get more fresh eyes on it. And dropping a big KH4 trailer at the same time would spur those people to check out the series.

For a newcomer, despite the fact all of the trailer is just spoilers, in theory they aren’t aware of what is and isn’t a spoiler. They are just supposed to see fans going wild and go “oh this seems like it is important! Guess I need to play to understand!”

Of course this isn’t how it works.
Yeah. In reality it's the same "lol story stupid dumb" and "lol this dialogue is garbage"

Great to see Steam folks getting the chance to check this series out.

Exactly this.

Guys, this trailer is only going to be watched by someone who has previous interest.
Why would someone who has no idea what KH is watch specifically this trailer, and only this one?

The gameplay trailer will be at the SGF, where all kinds of gamers will be watching, and where SE will be able to attract a new audience.

It's literally called the Steam announcement trailer. Not the "SaC Re-Recording" trailer.

It's the only trailer for the game on Steam.

For now.

Anyone going out of their way to watch this trailer can just as easily type in “Kingdom Hearts gameplay” on YT and get thousands of results. I think if they were really concerned about this specific trailer reaching newcomers, it would have been at SGF. But instead, (hopefully) they show gameplay there in front of a much bigger audience. I’m not saying what they did is a good marketing strategy. This is just what I think they could be going for. (And I’m probably wrong as usual when I give them too much credit.)

Yeah because that was the big piece of KH news they were promoting with it. But it was marketed as featuring the new song, edited to fit the song, and the release was timed to that of the song… not the other way around. I’m sure they worked together on picking a date, but ultimately everything about this trailer revolved around the song.

Look, I don't think this is the end of the world or anything, but it fits into a general lack of care SE seems to have for the series. Not bothering with native ports to Switch, bad trailers, news drought. I'm not furious, but KH is one of their core properties and I wish they put a little bit more polish into it.

Would it have killed them to put some gameplay into the trailer, or some good screenshots?

I'm not gonna assume you're riding hard for this particular trailer, but it is absolutely a negative and poorly advised move for the first, and for the foreseeable future, only KH trailer on Steam to be an extreme spoiler montage with no gameplay or Disney dialogue lmfao

Even if they put up another trailer in two days, they're hitting their zenith of website traffic TODAY. More people will look at the steam page today than any other date besides release. This was an astronomically stupid idea that under-sold the inherent appeal of KH at every possible turn.

I’m not. Just trying to keep a level head that it might not be the only thing they’re going to do to market this release. Especially when there’s a major gaming event between now and the release.

Obviously, they may (and probably will) just treat it like they did the EGS release and not say another word about it. But with the demand there’s been and with the multi-plat push, they really should do another trailer for launch. I agree this one didn’t do the franchise any favors. I’m just trying to stay a little optimistic and look for an explanation of why they made the choices they did rather than just bitching. (Which is fine to do if you want. It’s just not worth my energy to repeat the sentiments I share but have already been said.)

The short version of the trailer is actually better and goes in release order

They should have led with this one and then had an “extended” version using the one we got.

I'm so excited for this! I've been holding off from buying these on Epic, just waiting for a Steam release! The Epic exclusive Final Fantasy titles were slowly trickling to Steam, so despite how long the wait for KH has been it just seemed like it had to come sooner or later.

Can't wait to play these bad boys on my Steam Deck! 😁

Let’s just hope they are Deck compatible? It should be but the page doesn’t have it listed yet.

I'm not super worried about them not being Deck compatible. Most games that aren't verified are still able to work just fine, sometimes a little tweaking is just needed. I've had very few games I've tried that I couldn't get to work, and it's usually games with anti cheat software.

I definitely think the major headline here is KH1 and KH2 on Steam Deck. Truly portable wifi-free KH1 and KH2 for the first time, ever. Doing the Hades Cup and end game shit on portable sounds so cozy...

On the other hand, I'm not sure KH3 will be a worthwhile experience on the deck. I'm not confident performance will be up to par, especially in areas like Port Royal in the Caribbean. That, and, for me, KH3's biggest draw in the year 2024 is running the postgame bosses, which are still very difficult even though I'm amazing... I have a hard time playing super well on handheld systems, the super-quick reactions are a lot easier for me if I'm holding a traditional controller, so I wouldn't want to feel held back by that control scheme.
