All hearts are connected, and Riku is tracing that connection in order to open up a portal to Sora.
Curious... But wouldn't Riku's first instinct be to do what Sora did when he went "looking for" Kairi after she died? Riku does have the Power of Waking afterall, and is more than close enough to Sora to make such a dive, right? I guess it just seems like a pretty roundabout strategy to jump into when Sora only had to use the Power of Waking to chase after Kairi (to Riku's knowledge).
What? Unless excluding Riku, Kairi, Donald, Goofy and arguably Mickey, Sora doesn't know like...half these guardians personally unlike the Restoration Committee and all his friends he met during his earlier adventures. They have the bigger connection to him since they actually know him and he knows them. Even though he has his connection to Roxas, they still hardly personally knew each other besides some memories they saw but that doesn't count as them "knowing each other". I'm sorry but your comment makes no sense to me whatsover.
...... What a strange reply.
Sorry if Sora
physically connecting to Ven's heart and sheltering it for years isn't a strong enough "connection" for you. Sorry if being the literal Nobody of Sora, who had not only housed some of the boy's memories at one point, but even shared
all of his own with him in tern, doesn't count as "knowing him personally." Sorry if literally having power over Sora's memories and everyone connected to him (Namine) "makes no sense" to you. Nevermind Xion, who effectively spawned from Sora's memories and was molded by him during his sleep (as said by Xemnas), or Lea, who's known Sora since KH2 at the very least (though his heart would still recall the feelings from Re Chain).
I genuinely don't know what else to say this really. You're downplaying his relationship with these characters in order to justify this thought process, and it's just not working. Still, this wasn't meant to be a debate.
This course of action Riku and the others are taking is sound. Riku talking to the people Sora's had strong connections to in the past is the best way to trace some steps to Sora especially when those people could provide them with a clue especially since those other guardians clearly couldn't do so since Riku mentioned they couldn't find a clue on their own.
Trace steps? From what? Find clues.. to WHAT?? What exactly could the Restoration Committee, who again, likely didn't even know Sora was dead,
possibly offer as a "clue" to his fate when Riku (who was
there) can't? When
Namine (apparently) can't?
What part about this course of action is so "sound"? Because you've failed to make the logistics clear to me, and failed to show me how my own own reasoning was flawed. I don't, and will
never object to the FF characters being brought back into the story (obviously), but if it was for the purpose
@Ballad of Caius suggested, then I find the reasoning to be pretty flimsy. If say, they had actual,
tangible intel on Sora's current whereabouts, or tools to help assist in his return, then you'd have something. But what, truthfully, could these characters have to offer in terms of "clues" that say, Yen Sid, for example, couldn't?
