Kingdom Hearts III Pre-Release Spoiler Discussion Thread

I keep forgetting the epilogue, lol.
It would have to be as long as the ending though and really go with a character-focused main premise to salvage some of the most grating rushed parts though.
So I'll ask to be excused for being skeptical.

Yea, this indicates at least a few spoken lines. Naminé and her memory powers could be the first link to follow in order to find Sora again anyways. Maybe Roxas and Ven will also play a role with their own connections to Sora which have been woefully ignored in all I've seen so far in KH III. The scene where Sora wakes Ven is nice and they do acknowledge each other, but it too feels somewhat rushed and short.
Y'know, I actually find the scene of Ansem the Wise and Ienzo restoring Naminé to be quite cute and heartwarming and I'd like to believe the first thing she hears is Ansem apologizing to her for his awful treatment, but that scene should have happened two thirds into the game, not during the damn ending.
Not to mention Roxas' restoration and him facing Ansem should have been shown too.
Roxas gets a badass entrance and some cool words combined with being a super effective party member for one fight, but that's all there is.
Afterwards, he joins the BBS Trio, Lea and Xion in being background eye candy.

The way how they seem to just work down a checklist to deal with each individual character and their problems and arcs so far is especially jarring when you do care about most of these characters.
Seeing parts of the ending and how beautiful and rewarding some of these scenes feel gets a sour aftertaste when you realize for yourself that you personally see those scenes as what they are solely from prior buildup in the whole series and scarcely anything done by KH III itself.

It also seems that Nomura still can't let go of several of the side characters as at least Marluxia, Larxene and Luxord seem to be set to appear again, Isa is already proven.
Vanitas is a weird issue right now as at least to me his ultimate fate hangs in the air, same goes for Xigbar/Braig.

There are so far six characters I can seriously assume we've seen the last of and those are
- Master Xehanort
- Ansem SoD
- Xemnas
- Young Xehanort
- Eraqus
- Riku Replica

In general, I was satisfied with everything, but because of the negative opinion of the other fans, it is impossible to rejoice at the ending as it was yesterday.
I already regret going into this topic.

In regards to Aqua and Ending scenes:

So, I've been perusing this forum for a bit. It has been an interesting venture in seeing the spectrum of opinions and criticism for the context of the scenes individuals have seen. I've been staying clean for the most part as I've taken in certain information that won't necessarily hinder my experience of playing the game personally. As for some perspectives of Aqua's character, I don't necessarily agree with the scrutiny of her characterization in regards to the scene with Vanitas at Land of Departure (from what little I had seen before the video/channel was Death Noted off YouTube). However, after I finally took a peek at the scene with Aqua and Ansem (SoD).....

Oh boy.

That is hard to justify.

It ended up being comical for myself because I had actually kind of skipped around the video when first opening it, and I even thought to myself, "Huh? Where's Aqua's Keyblade? Let me just scroll back and—"

"Where's your Keyblade?" "Don't need it!"

....Since when? Everyone seems to mainly concentrate on the Land of Departure scene as the symbolic aversion of her characterization in tandem of the context of a scene. But this, this is where the failure of the writing for circumstantial plot micromanagement drove itself home in my book. I immediately paused the video after that line, and I was shaking my head with a weighed chuckle at how ridiculous this all was—how I felt I had no choice in understanding the Aqua complaints in the narrative of KH3. That right there just can't be justified, and I would mainly support this conclusion from the fact that Aqua has never decided to just fight an opponent of that caliber in this manner. While it's not completely inconceivable that she could fight that way, but in that given scenario, what was this option suppose to represent other than a showing of storytelling negligence? There's a myriad of different angles I could approach this issue for Aqua's representation in this scene, but I really just need to see everything else to understand why the writing of her character was approached this way. Overall, I'm still excited for playing this game, but seriously....what the hell was that

As for the ending scenes, at least I could laugh merrily at the Terra/Aqua/Ven aftermath scene. I just love how Ventus just seems like a little kid looking at his parents like "can I keep it?" XD And I do like that showing of character interaction between Riku and Namine. Unfortunately, I feel the weight of what that retains can only truly be gained from reading the KH2 novella. From that, it would've been nice to see her interact with Axel/Lea as well, but such was wishful thinking I suppose.

From what I've seen, there are things that could easily be DLC if Square wants

- Olympus Tournaments. That big arena behind Zeus is a waste for just a battle portal.

- Playable Radiant Garden scenario with Riku/Mickey. Riku is already playable and they will go there.

- Playable Aqua and Riku Keyblade War fights before Sora steps in. Aqua is also already playable.

It's sad that just yesterday, almost everyone was happy with the plot in KH3, and now I see everyone disappointed. ((
Very sad.

The trick is to not let others' disappointment affect your enjoyment. For me the good overweighs the bad and I'm still satisfying with what we got overall.

I actually feel like Ansem even asking where Aqua's keyblade was at all should've tipped people off. Hell, the fact Anti-Aqua needed to use Mickey's keyblade should've done that as well.

She didn't "need" her keyblade because she didn't have it.

Nope, didn't know about all of that as I am not actively looking for spoilers.
I just read what I stumble upon here and some images I randomly find out in the net like i.e. thumbnails from YT videos or gifsets.
I don't click on videos that are obviously spoilers.

Then again though,

keeping characters because there's more to tell about/with them is in-of-itself a good thing, also since characters who accordingly to some people should die because they have "no more use to the plot" can easily get a new story arc, but the writers need to actually follow up on that and actually focus on these characters, something which KH III seems not to do very well.

I wouldn't really call it toxic at all, there is no harm done in pointing out flaws and how some things are handled rather poorly, especially if it is a repeated offense.
It doesn't change the good parts that there are nor should it influence one's own assessment of the whole package.

Can only speak for myself here of course, but generally without actually spoiling anything I can say it isn't the ending itself that may cause much dislike, but the circumstances and buildup how the whole package gets there.

in a scene where the BBS trio and the Days Trio reunite with Sora, Lea talks about "having to iron out some plot points" while apologizing for taking so long to meet up again.

This hints about stuff happening behind the scenes just like it was in KH 2.

they mean her original one. she should be able to call upon her original one that she left with Terranort in BBS. except she doesn’t, which seems to mean that she relinquished it and actually has no Keyblade of her own anymore

Well, Rainfell got stuck in the Realm of Light along with her armor after the Final Episode, and Master Keeper most likely got taken to the RoL with DI somehow.

That also means Aqua was running around kicking, leglocking and cartwheeling Heartless before Blank Points.

After ending the game with Xigbar committing suicide, and Brain being a big thing for KHUx's next update, I can't help but feel my gut telling me that there's either going to be a connection, or I'm looking too much into it, seeing as how there is no tangible proof that Braig and Brain are the same person, and I am more inclined to believe that Gula is Brain, and it would be too much of a farfetch to conlude that Braig is an amnesiac Brain that forgot to wield a Keyblade. What if the Secret Ending is a monologue akin to FINAL FANTASY XIII-2's Secret Ending with Caius Ballad basically saying "You did exactly as I wanted, and now it's my turn to shape things up"?

Now this changes things.

This would be one of the reasons as to why I'll be waiting to fully play the game before making an overall final judgement. The scene alone was quite jarring to her character, but now there are other contextual elements to consider.

I understand that Land of Departure's playability is limited to just being a boss fight arena, to which I think it's Aqua Vs. Vanitas.

She lost it in 0.2? So that means she fought all Heartless barehanded during the time CoM, Days and KH 2 happens until she meets Ansem the Wise?

That would mean she's even more badass and her claim to not needing a Keyblade to fight Ansem SoD would not really be overconfidence.

I didn't know she actually lost Master Keeper for good in 0.2 as normally losing grasp of a Keyblade doesn't mean anything since you can summon it back to your hand in an instant.

But yea, if she couldn't rely on Master Keeper she had to face the dangers of the RoD barehanded for quite some time.

I’m so glad Kairi didn’t have a big part in KH3. Her character is uninteresting and provides no huge value to furthering the plot that was established in KH1. I also feel like the only reason they brought back Xion was because of fans complaining because her arc was pretty much complete prior to KH3. Definitely satisfied that the focus was on the BBS trio, Sora and gang, and Riku. Those character make the KH story, trying to develop side characters and spinoffs just cause confusion.

they mean her original one. she should be able to call upon her original one that she left with Terranort in BBS. except she doesn’t, which seems to mean that she relinquished it and actually has no Keyblade of her own anymore

I think she could not call Stormfall due to the fact that he stayed in the realm of light, and then when Aqua came back from the world of darkness, she didn’t see the need for it because she had Eragus keyblade.
I'm sure due to the fact that TAV turned Master's Defender into a "grave", Aqua will be able to invoke its original keyblade, or, in time, will receive a new one like Riku.))
