It’s just another case of misinformation spreading faster than the truth. Most people are blocking spoilers so when they see something that “looks” like a spoiler they rather not chance it and scream wolf.

Secret boss looks dope. Seems we are at least close to KH2 level combat again. And for it being an "easy boss" he seemed to have a really tough time with it.

So I think the reason as to why Donald and Goofy are still with Sora is because those two technically aren't Guardians of Light. Makes sense why they are still around when the others could have been captured by the heartless tide

That's a good question. If I had to take a guessThey were saved at that last minute somehow. Either that or Xehanort deemed them unnecessary and only targeted those that he needed to make the X Blade Of course that would also require Sora but that's the best explanation I can come up with at the moment.

Is there some weird thing about Sephiroth that made people think he was tradition and made Nomura think he was used too much?

Because he was only ever brought back once, and suddenly he's tradition and in Nomura's eyes he's been used too many times.

I believe a bigger issue with Sephiroth likely not being in KH3 is that it kind of leaves the Cloud vs. Sephiroth subplot up in the air.

Also, Gummi Ships were also only brought back once, yet that was an expected element of KH3, so I don't see why Sephiroth couldn't have also been one.

Final Fantasy also has lots of what people coin "expected" elements and where big debates get afoot about when several are left out of a title.
I remember the days where people were throwing fits when a FF title didn't have an explorable world map and/or a controllable airship because those where considered "staples".

I dunno if such things as an appearance of Sephiroth or the Gummi ship can really be counted as such "staples" for KH or if they even should be.
I personally find decisions to leave out a whole world like Radiant Garden unfortunate not because of the FF cameos specifically but because of the ties this world has to many of the original characters and unresolved subplots alike, some of which are clearly tied specifically to the Xehanort saga and should have been resolved here and not in KH IV, V or VI.

Thing is Im pretty sure that subplot was never meant to go anywhere. It was just there because Advent Children was coming out so they wanted to promote it in KH2.

If that's true then as a storyteller I find that to be disgraceful. If you introduce a sub-plot then you should resolve the sub-plot, not just leave it hanging.

And they'll probably show up in KH4 to promote FFVIIR.

I’d argue that subplot was never meant to be resolved on screen.

But the subplot didn't need to he resolved, at least not with a battle. Even just a cloud cameo would have sufficed to finish that up. There have been plenty of successful and well done plots and subplots that left an open possibility without being considered unfinished. If anything them actually meeting could be considered the finale of that plot since both were looking for each other the entire time.

As far as nomura feeling he was overdone? The mere fact he was considered an expected part of the game would have been the biggest proof of that to me. There are so many creative and underused bosses in FF and almost non of them ever get the spotlight because Sephiroth exists. When he's asked if there'll be a FF boss it's never phrased as wd just that way. It's always "will there be sephiroth or even a different FF boss". That can feel really limiting, especially if that isnt even something the devs even want to do in this iteration of the tale.

I would agree if it never extended past KH2. But it was developed a bit with Zack Fair being introduced and possibly abducted by Sephiroth. It seemed like it was going somewhere prior to now

It's difficult to see it as anything other than a sub-plot given that Sephiroth's KH1 Battle was canon and led directly into meeting him in KH2.

If it was never meant to be touched after KH2 I don't know why they'd bother adding Tifa and Zack to the little fanservice plot.

And I also don't like the notion that 'KH doesn't need FF cameos anymore' as if it wasn't literally half of what made the concept so cool and magical. They just added to the charm of the series, and to say 'This crutch for sales is no longer needed' feels like a big portion of what made the series so magical is now being pushed out.
