Chan takes on 'King of Fighters' - Cannes Film FestivalCANNES -- Hong Kong action director Gordon Chan ("The Medallion," "Fist of Legend") is to direct an English-language, live-action adaptation of best-selling videogame "King of Fighters." Pic will lense in Asia in first quarter of 2008.
Pic will be jointly financed by Japanese production and rights management group Micott & Basara and Australian-U.S. sales agent Arclight/Easternlight.
Concept is owned by SNK Playmore group and been released as 30 arcade, computer and home console games since franchise was launched 21 years ago. Screenplay is being written by "Fearless" scripter Chris Chow. Production is by Axis Entertainment's Joseph Chou (currently producing upcoming "Appleseed: Ex Machina") and Tim Kwok of L.A.-based Convergence Entertainment ("Wicked City".)
As the Cannes Film Festival comes to a close, Variety has reported that a live-action feature film based on SNK's King of Fighters series of [COLOR=blue! important][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][COLOR=blue! important][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]videogames[/FONT][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR] is confirmed for production. Japan's Micott & Basara and the American distribution company Arclight Films will be jointly financing the project. Joseph Chou (who is also currently working on the Appleseed sequel Ex Machina) and Tim Kwok (Wicked City) will co-produce the film, with Hong Kong film industry veteran Gordon Chan (most familiar to Western audiences as the director of Jackie Chan's 2003's The Medallion) signing up to direct. Shooting is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2008 in Asia.

Old news, but anywho.
A lot of us have seen DOA: Dead or Alive Movie based off of the Dead or Alive Video Game Series by Tecmo and Team Ninja. That movie was obviously low budget and full of bad acting BUT, I didn't think it was TOO bad. I kinda liked it.
Then we all remember street fighter and mortal combat. Uhh...do we want to remember? Decent, but not good enough.
Now there's a king of fighter's movie? when is it going to stop? But I'm actually very interested in this one because why? Because it's cool.
