I think, originally, Nomura wanted to surprise people by revealing towards the end that Roxas was Sora's nobody. That's why he made the similarities not so obvious. Now, he probably wants to come up with a better reason for that, which is probably how Ven was thought up.

Which is too bad, because if it wasn't for his name and the internet, I would have been very surprised by Riku's line in the end. Though I tihnk there were still other clues beforehand.

And didn't Nomura say that VAT's faces weren't designed until the FM+ trailer? Unless he just meant Terra and Aqua.
