and if we're going by that definition, wouldn't that make every single piece of artwork presented to this mural plagiarism? even yours that you are removing?

every single piece of art is based off, derived from an existing source, namely these characters from KH1. therefore, it follows that creating anything, whether tracing over it, looking at it to study it, or even going by memory, is plagiarism by that definition. it is something based on an existing source, and it is being presented as something new.

everything for this project... scratch that, pretty much all fan art can fit under that incredibly wide umbrella that definition has. derived from existing source? check. presented as something new? check.

the only thing presented as original is the illustration, the designs admittedly derived. hillboy can't take credit for anything other than the blotchy paint-over.

So the blotchy paint job is his submission. He's not claiming it to be anything other than that, and never has. So yes, cleared up.

Tracing is defined as blatantly copying the composition and structure of a work with little or no alteration, with the intent of claiming the by-product as your own. You "went through the motions" of reproducing the image, but the composition is identical to the original, with the intent for it to be identical.

Tracing is art plagiarism. And if you want to argue that he edited it because of the paint blotches, that's still art paraphrasing, which is also art plagiarism.

Turn has every right to drop out of this if he feels there's a lack of originality and an insult upon the artistic community, especially considering it's legitimate.



Now I don't want to see this argument in this thread again. You can discuss it all you want on your own time.

I'm just saying, tracing was allowed not because of laziness, but for the sake of the less experienced artists and those who lack the confidence to do be able to create something more "original" so that they could contribute to a project that was created for everyone to have fun.

Yes we are! It'll be some time later since we've got some other things planned and we don't want to overwhelm everyone with so many art projects.

That's okay! I'll get through it in a jiffy. I think it's alright for you to take Sora since Rena is very busy, so I'm just waiting on a reply from her to make sure.
