Just finished reading Rick Riordans 3 Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles crossovers. About to start reading Turn Coat, the eleventh book in the Dresden Files series.

I finished the book The Pact, it was really a heartfelt story that has an impacting moral to readers: never give up on your dreams no matter what your life is like. I'm currently reading the one and only Romeo and Juliet for my English class. Lately I've had to do acting in front of class and eeeeeeh, I get super-duper nervous, but I do keep my composure. I sort of have stage fright, but once I'm done acting I feel a lot better. What I like in the story is the vocabulary used to paint a picture so vividly when characters speak, and how the moods switch between humor, tragedy, serious, and romantic.

For class this semester, so far I've read:
Othello
The Taming of the Shrew
The Awakening
Robinson Crusoe
Persuasion
Frankenstein
Wuthering Heights

Honestly Wuthering Heights was my favorite. It's so unfortunate that the author died and left that as her only novel. It truly is her legacy.

The next school book I need to read is Great Expectations. The South Park rendition of the book is good enough, right? Hahaha, nah, hopefully I enjoy it.

For pleasure, I've been slowly working through Pirate Latitudes (which is great), and Advanced Kenpo Karate by Jay T. Will, one of my Sensei's former instructors. It's interesting to see how the concepts of Kenpo have evolved from 1982 to now. I've also been considering starting House of Leaves if I find the time, that sounded really interesting.

I've been reading The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb recently. They're standard fantasy fare but also really fun, fast reads. I like the main characters a lot too, and I'm glad it's not the grimdark kind of fantasy that seems to be popular lately, since that sort of thing has never been my favorite. I have the vague feeling that I read some of the author's stuff before but I have no idea what.

I was sick during the beginning of this week, so that gave me some time to read. I decided to re-read a bunch of the light novels from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-series. I ended up reading Melancholy, The Intrigues, and the B route and parts of the A route from The Dissociation and from Surprise. I also read the Snowy Mountain Syndrome and The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina short stories. I am quite glad that I read them, since I had forgotten how much I enjoy this series. It so awesome to see how much the characters have grow and now the SOS Brigade´s members really are close friends and comrades. I love those five dorks so much.

I also finished a book about Mao`s Great Leap Forward last week. It was quite an interesting but horrifying to read at the same time. There is also this rather dark humor element about how because of bad planning some massive construction projects, dams for example, were absolutely useless when they were finished. It was hard to understand how many things could go wrong because of bad planning and other circumstances.

I also read a small part of the beginning of one biography about Mao Zedong, and it seemed quite fascinating. Sadly I have a lot of exam books that I have to trough, so that thick Mao biography has to wait till I have less study material that I have to read.

The next Tokyo Ghoul novel will be released this month so I am really looking forward to that.

I have personal qualms against the localized versions. They remove a lot of humor and make it more accessible and it bothers me. The writing isn't as fun and quirky and it's kind of dull for a lot of it... I don't know maybe my nostalgia goggles came off and I was being too critical?

It`s always great to see new readers get into Haruhi and I am curious about you`r thoughts about the book. Be sure to write them here after you have read it.

I have read all of the localized books(re-read a good chunk of them quite recently) and I have not had any problems with the localization. I have to admit that when I started to read the books again I had a fear that they would not give a similar kick as they used to years back when I read them the first time, but to my huge relief the jokes still managed to crack me up, and I found some of the deeper discussion still engaging and rather interesting. The character development between the characters(especially the main five), and seeing that the SOS-Brigade`s members have really become close friends makes me rather happy.

Just waiting the day when hell will freeze and Tanigawa will continue writing.

Wait so are the novels contents different when you compare it to the original language? Can you give some examples? I am rather curious about that.

Well, I finished reading the book. I liked it. Although, whenever Koizumi, Nagato, or Asahina would explain what they were or what was going on, I would get confused and lose myself in the paragraph. Speaking of Koizumi, I kinda kept forgetting that he was in the story at all, he didn't have that much of a presence.

Yeah, I think I understood most of the concepts the characters introduce, but Asahina`s time travel theory is still something I am struggling to fully grasp. It will get even more... I am not sure if difficult is the right word, but when psycho babble master Koizumi will share his thoughts about the issue, it will sure twist and turn you`r brains.

I don´t know if it`s because that I am always looking forward to Koizumi`s chats with Kyon, but his presence in the story is always something that is at the back of my mind. He is one my favorite characters in the series, and in the future he will have some interesting scenes. As will the rest of the Brigade members.

Now on to The Sigh of Haurhi Suzumiya to dive deeper in to the rabbit hole known as the The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-series!

I haven´t read Sigh or Boredom in a long time so I am planning on going trough them again at some point.

I'm so glad you clarified that Sigh is the next book, searching amazon left me confused as to which book was next. I'll definitely continue reading this series. whenever I get the money to buy more books.

And I'm reading The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson again until Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare comes out in five days from now. The wait is slowly killing me. lol. xD

Way of Kings as in the Brandon Sanderson novel? Cuz holy shit, I may have to pick that up asap since I've had it on my shelf for like, two years lol.

I'm currently reading Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson for the first time in a buddy read with a friend. So far I am hella enjoying that so far. After that, I'm gonna continue my ARC of Fall of the Dragon Prince by Dan Allen.

I wanted something a bit less serious and more fun to read over the summer, so I walked into the nearest bookstore and came across this:

I'm not too far in, but it definitely fit my need so far. I'm normally a little funny with spin-offs and retellings such as this, but the writing quality is solid and its got a pretty interesting premise so far. It's been a while since any book really caught my attention, but this is doing it well enough as of now.

The last couple books I read for school were Great Expectations, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, and Heart of Darkness. I actually enjoyed all three. The second third of GE is always a hard read because Pip is such a piece of shit, but he's redeemed by the last third in my opinion. I didn't expect to like Tess, but I did, especially with all of the symbolism. And the HoD, oh my god is all I can say...

Switched over to a manga for now, started reading D. Gray-Man from the beginning again in excitement for the series finally continuing (Volume 25!!!). I'm on Volume 3 now, I own up to 6 at least and then I'm going to buy them as I go.

Edit: I've also been reading a fan translation of the old Shin Megami Tensei novel. I've always been curious about the book that inspired the amazing game series. I also found a translation of the second book, but unfortunately the third book looks untouched, so I'm hoping the first two are able to stand on their own and I don't get left hanging.
