The characters in this story are younger:
Sora: 4
Riku: 5
Roxas: 4
"Riku! I heard the monster there again!" Sora says excitedly. He and Riku usually talk about the monster in the cave, arguing about whether it was real or not, and sometimes wondering what to do if it was.
"So, suppose there was a monster in there..." Riku thought out loud. "You think we can take him down together?"
"Yeah! Definitely!" Sora exclaims happily. He paused and thought before adding, "Oh yeah! We should bring my brother too!"
Sora also had a brother, Roxas. He usually stays with their dad, but sometimes goes with Sora and Riku on their small adventures on the island.
So after searching for his brother, scaring him with the thought of a monster in the cave...
"It's like, grrroooaarrr!"
"W-what?"
And tempting him with ice cream...
"You scared him Sora. Here, have some ice cream!"
"If I go with you guys... Can I have more?"
"Sure! You can have a whole bunch!"
They finally got him to go along. Now they were going-
"TO THE CAVE!" Sora yells and runs off with the wooden sword in hand.
"Sora!" Riku calls after him. If there really was a monster there, his parents would not be happy knowing that he got his clothes dirty trying to get to it. "Slow down!"
"Do you really think there's a monster there?" Roxas asks quietly after catching up with him, already finished with his second ice cream bar of the day.
Riku, knowing that Roxas wasn't very keen of the idea of a monster on their small island, replied, "Don't worry. Even if there is one, we'll be there to protect each other. Ok?" He pats Roxas shoulder in a comforting way.
"Ok!" Roxas smiles softly, happy to know they'll be safe together.
"Come on guys! It's right here!" Sora said, pointing to where the cave was.
They all walk to the front of the cave, bringing their wooden swords, and in Roxas' case, a big stick from a tree, and listened for the monster.
"Shhhh... Hear that?" Riku whispered. They all stayed quiet, hearing a growling sound echo from the cave.
Grroooooooorrr...
"See? I told you...!" Sora whispered loudly.
"What should we do...?" Roxas asked quietly, keeping his weapon closely.
"Let's check closer." Riku said.
They all slowly stepped in the cave, one step at a time.
All they could see was pitch black for a moment, before their eyes adjusted to the dark, and found there were large rocks around the cave. A hole above the cave shining down sunlight in the middle.
"Aw... There's no monster here." Sora said dissapointed.
"Maybe we scared it away?" Roxas said trying to cheer up his brother.
"Maybe it was just the wind I guess?" Riku said.
"Hey, there's a door here!" Sora pointed at the door near the sunlight of the cave. They walked up to the door, while Riku stood next to it and looked around.
"What do you think it's for?" Sora asked him.
"Maybe that's where the monster lives!" Roxas said in surprise.
"No, there's no way to open it." Riku pointed out.
"Aw! This is boring..." Sora said sadly, upset for the lack of monsters.
"We can go on another adventure next time!" Roxas said happily, excited to go home and have more ice cream.
As they all started walking out of the cave, Riku had an idea.
"Hey guys!"
"What?" Sora and Roxas asked simultaneously.
"When we grow up, let's get out of the island! We'll go on big adventures! Not this little kid stuff!" He said excitedly.
"Ok!" Sora agreed.
"Sure!" Roxas nodded. "But what do we do now?" He asked as they went out of the cave.
"Hey, have you heard of that new girl at the mayor's house?" Riku asked them.
Soon they would have a whole new adventure.
