Keyblade's purpose

The keyblade is a tool that opens up the weilders heart, and the light (or darkness) in the heart can be truly used to its potential. The keyblade is a tool not a weapon, and its the heart that deals the damage. Face it, the kingdom key, lol, it couldn't slice through everything.

Also the only keyblade able to unlock others hearts is the synthetic keyblade possesed Riku used. This is so that the keyblade sticks to the basic purpose of the others, otherwise it really wouldn't be classed as a keyblade.

same here. One theory is that kingdom hearts made the keyblades to protect itself, and all worlds.

which leads us to think about the purpose of the keyholes. Why are they there? But to seal the keyholes still makes the keyblade a tool for hearts. So I guess I can go with that

The fact that keblades can seal keyholes doesn't really have much to do with the users heart. sure, the user has to have a qualified heart to even use a keyblade and have that power in their hands, but I'm pretty sure its not an extention of the heart's powers.

well, you could say that that's why square made the keyblade, but that's not even true. It has a lot to do with the story and events of the game. And we were talking about why the keyblade exists in the kh universe.

The keyblade's original purpose might not have been keeping the Heartless in check.They might have been little more than glorified swords at first, but let's say Pureblood heartless started to cause trouble in that world, and so the keyblades began to be modified so as to serve as more efficient weapons against them.

Those are my thoughts, anyway.
