i'm starting this thread becaues i want to know what you all think is the true purpose of the Keyblade.

my theroy is that it was made to keep the heartless under controle. the keyblade kills a heartless and frees the heart or hearts that it has and sends the hearts to Kingdom Hearts. but some people that got the keyblade used it for there own selfish purpose and thus the keyblade lost its true purpose and the heartless started to multiply.

anything that kills a heartless is gunna release the heart, and that heart is going to go to kingdom hearts. That would happen without the keyblade. And the keyblade has fought alot of people that weren't heartless. If the keyblade was all about the heartless, than it probably would affect other people, especially nobodies.

I personally think that keyblades might have been created to protect all worlds, including kingdom hearts. The keyblades can, afterall, open and clothes the doors to all worlds. Not only can it do that, but it's also a weapon, which could also help protect the worlds from things such as heartless.

the kingdom key represents everything light while the other versions such as Riku's represents darkness.

To give Sora a random wanna-be-cool weapon so Kingdom Hearts can attempt to be unique. Nuff said.

but there's keyblades from the realms of light and dark. keyblades aren't all about the realm of light.

This is how I got my buddie Stev into KH through talking about the Keyblade.
Stev: '' Wait wait wait its a game where some 10 year old has a key sword that can be a key some times in the game and he kills disney people?''
Me: ''um... yeah Oh and sora is 14 not 10.''
Stev: '' sounds good.''

I thought when a normal person kills a heartless, the heart just leaves and probably vanishes. When a Keyblade kills a heartless, the captive heart returns to Kingdom Hearts. I don't think both cases are true when a normal weapon can send the heart to Kingdom Hearts, I think it just leaves and vanishes.

As for the Keyblades purpose well that could go either way. The Keyblades from the light side are probably meant to keep the realm of light in order by locking up the worlds, destroying darkness, and keeping the worlds in order. The Keyblades from the realm of darkness probably follows a similar role, but the roles are probably in reverse or something. In the realm of darkness, the Keyblades probably are meant to open up the worlds, which allows darkness to flow in, which in turn probably strengthen the worlds. Basically, keep the world dark.

And Terra, Aqua, and Ven's Keyblades are probably meant for another purpose. Maybe to protect themselves and unlock their hidden powers, etc. Not having all of the powers of the realm of light or the realm of darkness Keyblades...

But than again, these are just theories of mine...

^you took my answer. but yeah, thats about what i would say.
with there now being three definite keyblades (KK, IK, W2D), its most likely to keep a balance or else everything would fall out of whack. which is probably one of the reasons why the first game came about. with "ansem" being the seeker of darkness, he sought it out wherever it was to exploit it and use it for his own purposes. it is to "purge the land of all 'uncleanliness.'" or so said my bro...

The Keyblade's true purpose is to be wielded by a strong-hearted person, so that the person can confront and destroy darkness. Could it be THAT simple?
