Spoiler Show
Tonight is the night that Halloween comes to rule for a night and everybody, both big and small, was going to go dress up in different kind of costumes ranging from vampires to zombies to even superheroes! Even Siam was going out as herself since she is part Spirit and I'm surprised at her for going that road.
Then again, it is Siam I'm talking about here as I watched her put on some make up that certainly brings the inner cat-girl out for this kind of night as she lightly brushed her checks, even making her ears wiggle from the tickles which caused me to chuckle quietly.
"You know, honey, it doesn't matter if you have make-ups on or not. You're just fine to me, Spirit or not." I spoke to her as I got up, grabbing my costume for the night. "Beside, there's no way you'll beat me in snatching all those candies!" I laughed on as she stuck her tongue out via the mirror as she stared at me then went back to work.
While it hasn't been that long since she and I started to officially dating each other and living together in a small apartment that has a good neighborhood and is pretty close to school where we go to during the day, we're still feeling each other out and I'm pretty sure this Halloween will be a wonderful chance for us to really 'know' each other well before the night is done and over with.
Stepping into the bathroom and closing it, I took the time to really look at myself and wondered when the time has gone by as I cleaned my face, washing and rinsing it off before drying up. Once I had done all my business, I finally had the chance to look and see what costume I shall wear for this night and man, did I pick the wrong thing as I stared in horror as this costume was for someone else who apparently wanted to go as a witch.
While it looks okay, I could see there was some sort of modifications to go with it and I had already paid for it, even if it was the wrong thing. I grumbled to myself quietly as I slowly put myself in it and while I blushed several times to these 'modifications', I couldn't just stay in tonight and not miss the chance to beat my girlfriend in the candy contest.
Finally, after getting everything on and putting the final touches by putting on a witch-like hat, I stood back and stared down to my feet then upward to my head via the mirror. I knew the costume might be different, but it somehow gave me the need to drive sexy as I twirled around, the skirt moving before settling down. Even the topline may have split it into two, it was well covered with the robe that really added my wastline to look like a model as the colors matched well with the hat, seeing it was both black and orange tingled with some blueness.
I took a deep breath before giving myself the best smile I could muster then opening the door and flicking the light off, I walked back down to where Siam was, already dressed up and ready for a night of fright.
"So, what do you think, Siam?" I said nervously, my fingers already wringing the cane that came with the costume. At the sound of my words, she turned around and as she saw me in that skimpy witch outfit, all Siam could do was just stare and sure enough, her jaw dropped to the ground figuratively before clearing herself and gave me a sweet smile that gave me the very good creeps.
"I think you look awesome, babe!" Siam complimented on me as I made my way before giving her the twirl as I did earlier on while adding that I thought I was supposed to dress up as Captain America. As she messaged it to me, I quickly slipped my hand into hers before answering her question.
"Yeah, I was supposed to but somehow the store screwed it up and now I'm a witch!" I grumbled, wondering who was wearing it. Before I could continue my wrath on whoever stole it, I was brought to reality by a kiss on the lips and like the rest, short and sweet to the point.
I opened my eyes and it was looking to a beautiful river as I finally came to my senses as Siam was trying to catch my attention. "What, honey?" I said to her as I cleared my mind from that awesome kiss of ours that was so freaking lovely.
Siam giggled to herself and explained that while it was unfortunate that I didn't get my wish to be Captain America, she had secretly hoped I'd wear a witch outfit since it'd match her as being part cat, part Spirit. "Looks like it turned out well, don't you think, huh?" She ranged out as we made our way out and making sure the door was locked to our apartment then made our way down the street.
I smiled to her, my checks already red. I wanted to say something, but all I could do was just blush and while I didn't think it'd actually happen, but something inside me secretly really wanted to be a witch just for her. Especially just for Siam.
The first thing we did was hitting the streets and luring both adults and kids alike to give all of us candies. While it was a contest at first with each other taking top shots, it then became a tie at some point and I wanted to keep going until one of us won, Siam eventually got tired of it and even granted me the win since the last house had the best candy, which turned out to be a Kitkat bars. While I munched some of them, Siam asked me if we should go on to the Halloween Dance down at the school.
At the mention of this and nearly chocking on one but got it down, I slowly gave her the look that says 'Hey, I don't dance. Period!' look. Even adding this, I crossed my arms close to my chests, which to my sad surprise, was barely close to bursting out in public. But it wasn't no match for the might of Siam who gave me the sad cat look as her ears went behind her head, her eyes growing big yet filling up with guilt.
I didn't shake my place for a few minutes before finally relenting but warned her it has to be one dance. "I don't want to be one of those girls that is being gossiped about my outfit and the boys wanting to lay the smackdown on me!" I warned her, my eyes on her. Siam promised me that it won't happen and with a mischievous smile on her face, added to my words. "If anyone hurts you, I'll just turn them into mice and watch them run away from me!" She cackled as I wonder to myself if I should be proud of her or be terrified of her for suggesting that to me.
As I debated on, I suddenly got snapped out of it when Siam grabbed my hand and practically dragged me toward the school. Once we finally got inside the gym where they were holding the dance, I made sure to double check my costume since it was school we're talking about here and to my relief, the outfit didn't really bother the teachers as there were several teens, mostly girls, wearing the same thing minus the modifications. While there was some dancing, the main dance would come during midnight and that was well off, so both Siam and I decided to check out all the games and other interesting things throughout the school zone. Even I forgot about the reason for not coming here as the night wore on.
After some couple of hours went by and visiting with our Tamers team, it was nearing midnight and to me that meant it was about time for the final dance. Even Siam was excited and constantly pulling me toward the gym as I laughed on and the tables were turned on her for it was me pulling her even harder then we reached the middle, running onward.
As we reached the gym and inside, I slipped my hand to hers while nearing the crowd full of Halloween characters. While I was deaf, Siam provided me the songs as people danced on and I danced for a bit as Siam, being the crazy girl she was that I loved so much, danced like a parrot until she disappeared on with the other girls.
I decided to stop to take a break and started to make my way to the fruit punch until something tapped my shoulders and thinking to myself it was Siam to join me, I turned around to see not Siam, but Sammy as to my surprise. I already knew that Sammy graduated last year yet it didn't deter him to join up anything that was part of his school years.
"Hey there, Alex." Sammy signed to me, smile on his face. I smiled back and gave him an hug before responding. "Sam! It's good to see you." We grabbed some drinks before giving each other updates in our lives. While it was no surprise to me that Sammy has already became a part of the new council for the Spirit Realm and still trying to repair damages that was done during the final battle, I could see Sammy trying to get used to the new life that we've made and offered him my girl advice in anyway possible.
He just smiled at me and pulled off the hat that I wore for my outfit then patted me on the head that caused me to blush to no end. I quickly took it back, putting it back on my head while sticking my tongue out in reaction that ended with us in laughter.
It was Sammy that asked me if I'm now together with Siam in which I responded with a resounding yes. He even congratulated me by telling me that we're meant to be since that fateful day when the Reapers first attacked New York and nearly destroyed our school. "Fate is pretty funny, don't you think? I mean, all those time together and look at us: We're heroes and both realms are at peace. Not to mention, I've finally found my girl and you've found yours." Sam spoke on as I gazed my way to Siam whom still danced on with all the girls.
"Yeah.." I said, smiling then looked up to him as he got up to go back to his current love and then finally Siam came down to me, waving at Sammy as he walked by. I could tell she was tired by the streak of sweat coming down on her head to which I gently wiped it away with my index finger and tossing it away from her, smile on my face.
We simply sat until all of a sudden, the lights shone on us as I became confused and started to talk to Siam about it when she squealed in delight and grabbed my hand, raising me off my now warm chair as we made our way down to the center. I was still confused on the events that led to this, but quickly Siam simply explained to me that we both won to be King and Queen of Halloween and end the night with a dance. While I was glad for the explanation, I wasn't sure about dancing but Siam won't even let me finish my thought as she put her hand behind my back and one on the shoulder then the music started and she took the first step.
I stumbled on a little bit before I finally got it and to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it as we danced on. While I was still 5'5 and Siam, whose size was pretty well managed, made it work, I was afraid I would step on her with my heels but turns out she's a great dancer and danced on until the song quickly turned into a slow song, which I figured out purely from the vibrations.
By then, we both got closer and closer to each other and while I'd prefer to look at Siam, for some reason I felt compelled to put my head on her shoulder and in fact I did so without someone ruining the fun about us being together. I didn't know how long we stayed there, but in the end I didn't give a frick as long as I have Siam and she with me, nothing can tear us apart: not the boys, not the girls and def for sure, not the freaking Reapers and Nightmares!
We danced on until Siam woke me up from my peaceful dance and causally asked me if I wanted to skip home and do something else. "Like what, Siam? I like this already!" I questioned her but not before she put her finger on my lips that stopped me in my track as she gave me her answers to which my eyes grew wide and my mouth turning into a twitch.
She wants to do that now?! I thought to myself as the song ended and we practically made our way out and into the streets. We ran but eventually we slowed down as we reached our apartment and even before I unlocked the door that would lead me to my freedom from this skimpy outfit, I got turned around by Siam and got kissed on the lips as we made our way in, Siam shutting the door behind us with her feet.
----
The next morning after Halloween, I woke up and while I wanted to do my chores around the place, all I did that day was just to watch over Siam as she slept on like a cat, sometimes giving off a purr whenever I rubbed her head and back.
Yeah, this Halloween already has become my favorite Holiday beside Thanksgiving and Christmas and even Valentine Day as my smile grew bigger and brighter, I simply laid down beside my girlfriend and just went to sleep.
Favorite. Halloween. Ever.
Spoiler Show“...And then, after he left for the island on his boat that night, no one ever saw him again.â€
Two pairs of eyes looked at the silver-haired boy who had lowered his voice while telling this story. Both his friends seemed nervous, almost anxious, but the story wasn't over yet.
“But...they do say that his ghost still haunts the islands and tries to kidnap someone every single year...â€
“Ahhh! Stop. You're lying, you're so lying, Riku!â€, his best friend, Sora, screamed at him while bouncing around like a ball. He seemed unsure if he wanted to believe the story or not, but obviously didn't rule it out yet completely.
“I don't want to get kidnapped...â€
The young girl's soft voice was only barely audible over Sora's screaming, but both boys immediately looked at her.
“He won't! He never could, Kairi!†Sora screamed excitedly. “The three of us will be stronger than him together! Isn't that right, Riku?!â€
__________________________________________________________________
Hours had passed since the sunset, but that didn't keep the three teenagers from sitting at their favorite place, the paopu fruit tree. It was a calm night, only the sound of the waves echoed through the night. Others were probably running through the streets on the other island now, playing trick or treat like they used to when they were younger.
“Say, Riku!â€
Sora's loud voice broke the silence between them and had both his friends look at him. There was a frown on his face which was rare enough, and he seemed to be unsure how to ask what he was thinking.
“So, about this guy...you know, the one kidnapping people on the islands...â€
He immediately pouted when both Riku and Kairi chuckled because he didn't understand what they thought was funny about that. He was being serious here!
“What's there to laugh about?!
They just kept looking at him, and while Kairi had a sweet smile on her lips, Riku seemed to consider if it was worth answering. Knowing Sora though, he wouldn't give up until he got a satisfying reply.
“I'm honestly amazed at how you never manage to keep anything vital memorized, but when it comes to a random story I made up for Halloween like...what, ten years ago, suddenly your memory is blessed.â€
He cracked a smile at Sora's shocked face. Whatever answer he had expected, this was obviously far from it. Nothing happened for a solid twenty seconds until Kairi finally burst out laughing at them staring at each other.
“You're the one who kept calling Riku a liar, Sora, yet you're the only one who believed that story.â€
“He told it for three years straight!â€
“Not my fault you're so easy to convince.â€
“You didn't stop telling it until I said I believed you!â€
“You could've lied, too.â€
“Ooooh, whatever!â€
Sora turned away, obviously pouting now, and crossed his arms. He was honestly shocked by his best friend fooling him like that for so many years without ever throwing light on the story.
“And here I was thinking we'd seriously fight that guy one day with combined powers.â€
“Shouldn't you be able to win a one on one, first?â€
Those words, paired with a devilish smile on Riku's face, were enough to snap Sora out of it and encourage him to start a fight. This was gonna be a long night.
-------------------------------
The sun was already rising when both of them finally had enough. There was rarely ever a winner in their fights because they usually just stopped at some point. It was like a funny chemistry between them.
“I've been wondering...â€, Kairi suddenly said when they finally turned away from the paopu tree to go home for today. Both Sora and Riku turned around to face her when she cast the tree a look.
“There are so many legends and stories we keep telling each other from generation to generation...like the paopu fruit tying people's destinies together...I wonder if that one is true...â€
“It is.â€
“Oh I don't believe you anything anymore, Riku! Prove it!†Sora exclaimed, but with a big grin on his face. Of course he wasn't seriously mad about all this, although it still annoyed him a bit that they'd never go find that ghost like he had wanted to for years.
“Isn't it already proven? No one ever said you have to actually eat them, right?â€
“How else would you share them, though? Huh? Huh?!â€
But it was Kairi, now with an excited look on her face, who eagerly answered the question.
“Well, we've always been here together, right? We've been sharing this tree as our favorite place for so many years now...and no matter what force tried to separate us from each other, we always got back together somehow.â€
There was a moment of perfection in which all of them realized that all the paopu promised had already been fulfilled for them.
“I'm so glad you two became my best friends.â€
“I wouldn't want it any other way.â€
“Yeah, you bet that I wouldn't!â€
Spoiler ShowTrick or Treat?
(Luxuria)
Angie’s first thought was what happened. Her second was a frantic how does she get her team out of their present situation. Her eyes darted around the alleyway, mind on high alert as she tried to figure out the best way to get out of there with minimal casualties, catching Lucas’s confusion over where they were Angie swore softly.
So it really was up to her, huh?
It didn’t take much searching to pinpoint the other five members of their seven-man band. She was suddenly grateful she was wearing jeans and a conservative t-shirt and not the black dress she’d been planning on for later in the evening. She could tell Lucas wasn’t amused by their new location, and quite frankly she couldn’t blame them.
How the hell had they ended up in the Fullmetal Alchemist universe?
She remembered vaguely they’d been fighting a demon, it started saying some crazy shit and then they were here. She also felt pain in her stomach but she pushed it to the side for the time being. Catching Lucas’s violet eyes, she wasn’t surprised when he ordered sharply, “Gather the others up, we need to regroup so we can figure this out.â€
“Why, hello there you two. Can I help you two children find something?â€
Tensing at the question, Angie didn’t react as Lucas quickly crossed the space between them and got between her and their new “friendâ€. She recognized the smooth voice, and it was alluring to her. Glancing over her shoulder at the man, she saw the Führer standing behind her, Lucas serving as a barricade between them. Turning around slowly, she stepped to the right so she could look Bradley straight on while compelling with Lucas’s desire to protect her. A sweet smile coming to her face, Angie answered carefully, “Good afternoon King Bradley, no we don’t need help. Thank you for the offer though, sir. We’re just trying to figure out where our friends ran off too, sir.â€
She watched his uncovered eye wind in surprise at her respect, only for it to return to normal and a cheerful grin to spread across his face. “Well then miss, I wish you the best of luck. Although maybe you and your friends would be interested in joining me for some dinner?â€
Angie smiled slightly, she knew what he was thinking; and quite frankly she couldn’t blame him. The autumn air was crisp here just like it is back at home, and she could tell that was something that would probably comfort the others. Seeing Lucas’s shoulders tense, she reached out a hand and placed it on his shoulder, drawing his attention to her. Shaking her head slowly, Angie looked at Bradley for a second longer as she searched out the others. Finding them, she frowned a little as she picked up the other energy signals.
Then her eyes widened in fear as she realized what, or rather whom, the others were dealing with. “On second thought sir, it’d be wonderful to have you show us around. And dinner does sound nice.†She commented sweetly, her brain already arranging things so she knew just how to get them out of there.
Feeling Lucas’s gaze on her, she shook her head and shot him a quick look that read “Later. It’s not important right now†before she started to follow behind Bradley, Lucas close on her heels until he pulled up beside her. She didn’t say a word as Lucas wrapped a protective arm around her, it was an old habit they’d developed after their initial encounter. Lucas was also one of the few people Angie was able to tolerate physical contact from without her feeling sick to her stomach.
It didn’t take them long to find Dante, nor Selim Bradley. Picking up her pace, Angie reached Dante and reached up to smack him upside the head. Watching as he rubbed the back of his head, Angie scolded, “You should know better than to pick fights without me or Lucas present to keep you in line, idiot. You should also avoid engaging in conversation, or confrontation, with the locals without me present to tell you if it’s safe. Are you trying to get killed?â€
“Lust?â€
The unsure word made her freeze in her tracks, glancing over her shoulder she saw Gluttony standing there; looking like the little lost puppy that he tended to act like without Lust there to guide him. Jace was standing back from it, his hair a mess and his eyes wide from panic. Doing a quick mental count, she looked back at Lucas who was standing near the furher and answered the unspoken question, “Three for us, and three for them.â€
Lucas nodded in answer, his eyes guarded but Angie could tell he was on edge. He was beginning to figure out where they were. Clapping her hands together, Angie felt the spark of energy tear through her body. Slamming her hands against the ground, she flinched inwardly at the jolt of pain but felt the energy disperse to find its targets.
“Elrics and their counterparts are Southwest from here, Clear and Sloth are northeast sir. Who do you want to go after first?†Angie asked, knowing that either set would be a harassed if left unattended for too long.
“I’ll take Jace and Dante to retrieve Christa, I want you to get the twins, understand?â€
Nodding her head, Angie started to head in the direction of the Elric twins when Lucas called out, “Ange, how’d you do that trick just now?â€
Without looking back, she answered, “Focus inward, clap your hands together and then send the energy you want to use into the object you desire to control.â€
She wasn’t surprised when King Bradley joined her, nor when Gluttony did too. Looking back at Lucas she teased, “Anything else sir? Or may I go retrieve our teammates and answer the questions at the Furher’s house?â€
She watched as Lucas flipped her off, a half-hearted smile on his face before he took his group and headed to get Christa. The message was clear though, meet at the Furher’s and they’ll figure out a plan there. Selim Bradley followed after the boys, apparently deciding they were the bigger threat than her. Good, that’s what they needed.
Now, she just had to get the twins and hope they wouldn’t get killed in the process.
That shouldn’t be too hard given the stuff she usually had to deal with, but even then Angie expected some kind of challenge. It just wouldn’t be her life without some type of obstacle, now would it?
Squaring her shoulders, Angie moved through the streets with relative ease, dodging people and keeping the two Homunculus that were following her on a short leash. Gluttony wasn’t an issue, he was so much like a puppy, eager to please her. Bradley on the other hand was a bit of a surprise, she’d expected him to be a little more hostile toward a strange like her.
After a half hour, Angie heard angry words that was music to her ears. She’d been mildly worried that she’d reach the twins to find one or both of them dead, but Eric’s angry comeback to whoever reassured her that they were okay.
“If I’m not willing to eat for my sister, what makes you think I’d eat for you! Shove off you stupid peasant!â€
“I am not a peasant; I am the next emperor of Xing!â€
A laugh escaping her, Angie rounded the corner and laughed, “Elric, chill out. Get over here, we’re supposed to meet up with Lucas in an hour, you too sister.â€
That brought the argument to a halt, and she watched as Eric’s opponent looked at her, his dark eyes open and wide from amazement. If she remembered correctly from the manga, the boy’s name was Ling, and he’d recently become partnered with Greed. Eyes skipping to Envy and Delilah, she saw the way the two embodiments of envy watched her. Placing a hand on her hip, she continued, “Come on, we don’t have all night. It’ll be sundown in a couple hours and you know how Lucas gets.â€
She saw the Elric twins nod, before they threw one last scathing look at their respect counterparts and moved over to stand next to Angie. Raising a hand to silence Eric, she added, “I’ll explain back at King Bradley’s place, but first we need to get there with our heads still on our shoulders. Mustang and his gang are bound to be suspicious of anyone they don’t recognize, which is why we need King Bradley to get us to safety. Move out.â€
Eric and Delilah fell into line, and Angie didn’t react when all but King Bradley fell into step behind her. King Bradley took the lead, leading them straight to his house. Angie could tell they’d jumped from the frying pan into the fire, but she could also tell that this dangerous game was also the only way to get home. She wanted to get home to her loved ones, she had to see them again.
She needed to see them again.
She needed to see Devon to keep the evil voice at bay.
She needed to get home to safety.

" So Sarah, what are chu going to do for Halloween?"
" I don't know, does it really matter with the world we know being gone?" said Sarah with a look of concern on her face.
" How about you? Going to trick or treat?" she said jokingly. I looked at her with some slight indignation, she knew I wasn't too fond of being treated like a kid just because I currently looked like one. Sarah laughed after a pause with that knowing look, and she petted my Miquo'te ears lovingly. " I know, I know, you're 27 and you feel you're too old
for Halloween. Still, maybe it's a blessing in disguise, a second chance at childhood maybe?"
I sighed. " I guess chu right. Still, ish just awkward for me... especially being a Miquo'te somehow..." I said with a pause. I shifted in my chair, it was slightly uncomfortable having a tail these days down there, and it constantly reminded me of my fate... like it needed to. I thought through today's events, someone at the main plaza had mentioned
something interesting. " How about that rumor about the huge waterfall outside of town? Maybe it'll help me figure out why I'm the only altered human around here?" I said, trying with all my might to be decisive... normally it was Sarah whom made all the decisions because I wouldn't.
Sarah looked at me with her head cocked to the side and said, " you sure that's a good place to go to? Not going to try to jump again, are you?" I sighed and shook my head no, having someone care about you made it all the harder to do. Sarah sighed and said, " I'm going with you, every time I picture you near those falls, I remember... besides, who knows what the others might do on this day." Sarah was right, the people of this village were from the real world after all, and the real world had some very dangerous incidents happen... before we woke up here.
The night air felt nice as we walked outside Sarah's house. Nostalgia village... though I had created the place as a fictional world of my fan fic for Kingdom Hearts, it still all felt surreal and alien to me. Every now and then, I noticed something was off and different about this world, then the one I made up... lights out of place, buildings missing, etc.
Now this, the nighttime being darker then usual... I had the concept of Nostalgia Village to be stuck within a night cycle which still had some light out... but now everything was pitch black.
" Good thing I made a lot of lights in this village," I said noting the setting. Sarah nodded calmly in agreement as we walked towards the waterfalls at the entrance to the village. We passed by some people, all in their usual white overcoats like the ones everyone wore. Sarah stopped walking for a moment and paused, turning to me. " I forgot to mention earlier, when you first said you created this world, did you also create these white overcoats?" Sarah said. I shook my head no. " These white overcoats are pretty new in my book, though they do coincidentally seem to parallel as an opposite to the
black overcoats Tetsuya Nomura made for Kingdom Hearts." I said after some consideration. " Hmm, interesting. They're kinda cute in a way," Sarah said as she played with the dangling glowing star, attached to the string coming out of the hood of her coat. I looked at my own single star coming from my coat, unlike everyone else, I was missing one star from my own white coat... other then that it was the same as everyone else's. Sarah and I continued walking towards the falls, and as we approached, we saw some people with the hoods of their white coats covering their faces right on the bridge of the falls. I nearly giggled, as the spectacle reminded me even more of Kingdom Hearts.
The people turned towards us as they heard our approach.
" It's that strange cat girl along with Sarah!" One of them muttered loudly as we got closer. The hooded figures started to walk around us quickly, trying to trap us in a inner circle. Sarah reacted quickly, taking my hand and jumping with me high in the air. Sarah did a double jump mid-air, and we landed on the brick gate of the bridge. Sarah and I stared down at the hooded figures, waiting to see what they would do next. " 1, 2, 3...9 there are nine of them," Sarah whispered.
" There's nowhere to run!" said one of the hooded figures as a blinding flash came from each of their hands. In the hooded figure's hands each grasped a transparent-like key-shaped weapon... I realized immediately with a gasp, somehow they each had a keyblade! " Why do chu guys have keyblades?!" I yelled at each of the hooded figures. " Oh, so that's what this thing is?" said one of the entities. " So what, doesn't matter what they are, we're capturing those two!" said the hooded figure next to the former. All of the hooded figures started to jump towards us, but were only able to jump the average human height. Giving up on jumping, one of the figures started to try and climb the brick pillars of the gate. I turned to Sarah and said, " what are we going to do? They're going to catch up to us!" Sarah turned to me in response and said with a smirk, " well what did you do the first time you tried running from us?" I blushed in response, I had forgotten I had the ability to teleport... that I had teleported to that white dimension since I
was anxious being with people. " Oh yeah..." I said slyly and slightly ashamed at the memory. I commenced the teleportation spell, and the scenery of Nostalgia Village and the hooded figures vanished into white.
A short time passed while we waited in the "white dimension" as I called it. It was a place filled entirely with a white light, with a giant pile of paper, books, CDs, and a bunch of other recording devices at the center as the only place one could stand on... it reminded me of the polar opposite to Kingdom Heart's Dive to the Heart area. I sighed, and smiled
at Sarah. " Good thing chu came huh?" I said lightheartedly. Sarah's face was grim, as she was thinking about something. I asked Sarah, curious as to what was on her mind. Sarah replied, " that Nostalgia Falls rumor... didn't they say something about nine people that decided to jump into the falls last Halloween?" I paused, starting to realize what
Sarah might be thinking, before saying, " no chu couldn't mean... but how?" Sarah shook her head. " You're saying how, when I'm able to jump mid-air and you with the teleportation abilities... honestly, anything seems possible in this world." I curled myself next to Sarah, a bit scared at the new possibilities that lay before us...

I am over 100 hundred years old. I have no friends, no family knows of me, and well I do my best to avoid people. This is of course the price one pays when they’re on the run from Death. I have been avoiding him for a long time now, and I had planned to avoid him forever.
But the time has come. I can no longer go on like this, constantly hiding myself from everyone and everything. So tonight I decided to be the woman I was raised to be and do the right thing. Tonight, I am going to find Death and let him finish his task.
Tonight, on Halloween, I’m going to die.
Sure, I could go Trick or Treating, dress up, maybe even crash a party, but none of it would really do. For so long I have been a pain to Death, that I figured it’d be better to give him an early Christmas gift.
I want to make things easy for him, since he’s been working so long and hard to find me, yet I didn’t want to have it done in a public area. That would be way too flashy and cause too much trouble. No, if I’m going to go, I want to do it classy, quiet, and no fuss. So I made my way to the cemetery where my parents and brother were buried.
It’s a real lovely cemetery. I visited it quite often when I was actually alive and didn’t have a knife sticking out of my back. Every person buried here was clearly loved and greatly missed. It’s kept very clean and tidy, the gravestones daily have letters and flowers on them, and two beautiful angel statues with stone whiter than snow keep watch on the sleeping souls below.
My parents are buried side by side with one headstone, while my brother and his wife are right next to them with individual head stones. The same day the two had been considering to get a divorce, they got into a car crash and both died. I had made the decision to give my sister-in-law my plot so she could rest with my brother, her husband. It wasn’t an easy choice, but I was glad I made it. I can only hope the two have made up by now.
Walking through the gates with flowers in my hand and a few letters, I make my final visit as the sun begins to set. My bones start to ache as a chilly winds dances by. I have an inkling the moon is going to be very bright tonight. Taking a look at the surrounding the woods, I already see the bats darting in and out of the high trees, catching bugs as they swoop by. One swoops so low it almost got tangled in my long curly hair.
As soon as I past the grave of Admiral Garrison, Stacy McDonald, and Little Baby Ben, I reach my families. Kneeling down, I lay the flowers and letters down on each spot and blow a kiss to my ma. A small tears glides down my pale check as I let out a soft chuckle.
“I’m going to finally give you a visit ma,†I say as I reach out my hand to touch her name.
My long, thin fingers extend, softly brushing the engraved letters. I’m not sure what purpose this has, but somehow it makes me feel a little better about the whole situation. I don’t know if I’m actually going to see her again or if I’m going to fade into nothingness, or if I’m going to sleep, or if I’ll find myself outside the pearly white gates with St. Peter there ready to lead me inside. I have no idea, but I know I have to do this. I can’t avoid this any longer.
The day has slowly faded into twilight. I stand up slightly surprised he hasn’t showed up yet; it’s not like death only comes at night. Strolling over the oak tree that’s a few years older than me, I slowly climb up it and watch the moon rise while I wait. It was a good place to hide and scare anyone who passed through. Most people didn’t visit cemeteries on Halloween night and the few who did tended to cause trouble. So I did my best to scare them off.
Soon the moon was high in the night sky and it casted blindingly white beams upon the cemetery and the woods. The trees looked pitch black and the ground below was glowing white. I started to feel faint in the head and my hands began to grow weak. That’s when I saw him. Death had finally come.
And before my eyes, Death changed before I got a good look at what it looked like when it first appeared. I learned quickly Death was not a him. Nor was Death a she. It was and it could take on any form it wanted to. One moment it was a little girl in a white dress, the next an elderly man covered in tattoos and wearing a swim suit. Death switched around a few times, till it took the form of someone who looked very much like me.
“Anna,†Death said softly with voice very much like mine, “You could have ran forever. Why do you show yourself now?â€
It’s eyes were blue, yet so cold, so lifeless. It was painful to stare too long into them…yet I also found it peaceful. Building up the strength, I slowly climbed down the tree before speaking to Death. I wanted to stand face to face with it.
As I got closer to Death, I realized what it looked like, who it took the form of. My twin sister who had perished in birth. She would have looked exactly like this, at least, I could assume.
“Because, it’s not right. It’s not natural for a person to run so long from death,†I said softly, kneeling down, “I should have let it come like most people do. I didn’t understand what I had done and I still don’t. But I am ready now. You can take me Death. I am yours.â€
For a while Death did not speak, it only stared at me with its mouth slightly agape. Just when I thought that maybe Death was going to let me go, it reached out its hand and lifted my chin up.
“You have made me suffer for years, but it was not in vain. Do you really think a mere mortal can outrun me? I allowed you to escape. I was testing you, seeing what you would do with your extra time. Like a criminal, you hid in fear. You did nothing but try to avoid me and that has left me with one choice.â€
“My time has come for me to rest. My heart has broken a thousand times over and can no longer be repaired. I cannot and will not see another dead or dying face. Dear Anna, you will become Death in my place.â€
“Become Death?!†I exclaimed shaking. “But will I ever see my family again? My friends? How can I take up such a task? The burden would be too heavy! Please, just let me die. Please!â€
Death pulled its hand away and stood up, its gaze burning into my soul.
“My time is done and my place must filled. Farewell Anna. You will do a good job.â€
Death faded into nothing but white dust before me and I began to grow so painfully cold. I felt my skin slowly crawl off my body, all my insides felt as if they were melting, and my throat grew tight. My vision turned to a deep dark red and the whole world around me was covered in blood. I rolled onto my back, unable to do anything else. Something started to drag itself up my throat and out of my mouth. It slowly moved from my chin, to my chest, to my stomach, and then my legs. After that I felt it no more.
Slowly a numb feeling started to take over. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I was pleased to see the world was no long covered in blood. I was also surprised to see that it was daylight. Rubbing my hands on my face, I realized there was no flesh there. Forcing myself to look down at my hands, I saw they were nothing more than bones. My whole entire body was now completely bones. Looking next to me, I notice a scythe was lying there.
Grabbing the scythe, I stood up and my feet started to move. I knew exactly where I needed to go and it felt so terribly wrong. I should have died a long time ago, I should have let Death come and reap my soul. Now I have become Death and I’m the reaper of souls. As I walked down the street, I passed by the living going completely unnoticed. Only one young woman seemed to pay any attention to me. I looked over at her and knew that in just a few hours I would be seeing her again.
Making my way through the neighborhoods, past all the pretty little suburban houses, I finally came to my destination. It was a decently sized house that looked like it had been built in the 70s. I figured since I was Death, there would be no need to knock.
I had half expected for the house to be filled with people for some odd reason and was slightly disappointed when I only saw a middle aged man sitting on the couch next to his cat. That’s of course when my heart sank. The man had never once looked away from the TV or paid any attention to his door opening or closing. He was not the one who was dying. It was the dear old cat.
The feline gently lifted its head up and trotted off the couch. He looked up at me with his big old green eyes and gave a soft mew letting me know it was okay. He was ready.
“Are you sure?†I asked, not really wanting to reap a poor cat’s soul.
He rubbed his whole body up against me and purred. If Death’s heart could sink any more, its heart was on the floor right now.
I could not bear to witness what I was about to do, so I looked away. But just before I went to swipe the poor creature’s soul, I stopped myself. Kneeling down and setting my scythe to the side, I held out my hand to pet him. I knew that I couldn’t let him live, yet that didn’t mean I had to kill him either.
“I don’t know the rules of being Death little fellow,†I said softly, “but I don’t think there is any rules that say Death can’t have a pet. Now this is going to hurt…â€
I took a step back and hoped I could do the same thing to the cat that had been done to me. I thought really hard about what I wanted done and suddenly felt energy pulse through me. I didn’t dare look while the transformation happened and was glad to learn he suffered no pain during it. He wasn’t as furry as he used to be, since he was all bones, but he was still pretty cute to me anyhow.
Picking up my scythe, I stood up and noticed that the man was no longer watching TV, but walking over to the where the cat was last standing before he became my pet.
“Charlie?†The man said softly. “Hey Charlie? You okay little guy?â€
I couldn’t see it, but the cat’s body must have been lying there. The man kneeling down and started to gently stroke what looked like the head.
“I guess you’re finally gone then,†he said choking up, “I knew it was odd you left the couch while we were watching Deadliest Catch. You loved Mike Row’s voice.â€
I knew the man couldn’t see me, but I still felt slightly invasive. Looking down at the cat, who was lovingly called Charlie, I could tell he was ready to go. Sighing, him and I made our way out of the house.
“We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us Charlie. I still have to figure this whole Death thing out. I hope you don’t mind helping me along the way.†I said softly.
Charlie rubbed his whole body against my legs, letting out a purr of approval. It was comforting to know he could still purr. Maybe, just maybe, being Death wouldn't be too bad after all.
The End
