Chapter 6:Kairi's Tale
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
My eyes slowly opened to the blazing sun. I reached out with my hand, searching for his. Sadly, I knew I wouldn’t find what I was looking for. Steadily I got over my disappointment and sat up on the beach. I hugged my knees to my chest and looked out over the open waters. It had been so long since I had seen him last, but I knew I would wait for him. His departing promise is wait wakes me from slumber everyday and lulls me to sleep every night.
“I’ll come back to you....I promise!”
I hope those words never leave me and I know they never will. Getting up, I brushed off the sand that had collected on my clothes from my afternoon nap. Life here on Destiny Island was boring without the two of them, Sora and Riku. I know I have other friends like Tidus and Wakka but I was so much closer to those two.
“Come on Kairi, pull yourself together! You need to find something to occupy your mind.” This had become a daily habit, me trying to keep my mind off of them. It was hard but I usually found something to do. Yet today something was holding me on that spot, looking out on the beach. My heart started to ache, yet I had no reason to be sad. I listened to my heart closely. Something was wrong with Sora. His mind and heart were at battle. My, more like his, emotions took over me. He was starting to question reality but I had no idea why. I fell to my knees, he was starting to panic. My eyes were brimming with tears and my heart was being torn apart. It was a mix of his raw emotions and me not being able to handle feeling his pain. Shivers ran down my spine, so I hugged my arms to my body, trying to make the sadness and fear subside. My tears couldn’t be stopped, I no longer had control.
“Please Kairi....don’t cry.”
My head went up immediately. I panned the shoreline. That voice belonged to Sora but he was no where to be found. Those words had made the tears dry, even though I couldn’t see him. Those words also brought a comfort. I knew he was questioning his reality but those words were his link. I needed to find him and help him figure out what his reality was. Yet I had no way of reaching him. My mind raced with possibilities but none of them were plausible.
“You are a Princess of Heart, there is always a way.”
Again I searched for the source of the voice; this time not knowing who it belonged to. A sudden feeling of sleepiness overtook me. I stubbled and fell face first into the beach. My eyes were closing against my will. Panic wanted to overtake me but it didn’t stand a chance against the will of the unknown force.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My eyes flew open to nothing but darkness. I couldn’t see anything. I suddenly remembered the voice and the fear that was suppressed flooded back. Where was I and who brought me here? I light appeared from up above. I tried to see the source of the light but had no luck. As I followed the light back to the ground, something took my breath away. Standing under that light was Sora.
“Sora!” I ran to him, my eyes and mind in disbelief. He held out his arms, waiting for my embrace. I neared him and held out my arms as well. I closed my eyes, waiting for his warmth and comfort but something was wrong. I fell forward and landed on my stomach. I whipped around to see Sora give me a big smile and disappear in a swirl of lights. Why?
“You wanted to help the keyblade wielder?”
It was the same voice from before. Anger was pounding against my skull. What right did this person have to tease me? They must have known how much I cared for Sora, since they showed him reaching out for my touch.
“What do you want from me?” I screamed.
“Only for you to help the keyblade wielder. For he may open the door to the light but you are the key to that door.” I stood there, not knowing what to make of the words I had just heard.
“Where’s Sora and what’s happening to him?” I didn’t want to play games anymore. I only wanted the truth.
“Right now Sora......” The voice explained everything. My eyes widened in shock and horror. How could this have happened? Maybe if I had stayed with him, none of it would have happened. Finally when the unknown was done with it’s tale I only had one question.
“How can I help him?”
“You will give him a warning but I must warn you, you mustn’t tell him straight out what is happening, only give him a clue. The dream will be brief so you have only a small amount of time.”
I knew exactly what I was going to tell Sora. I just hope he would get the hint or it will be death for us all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I opened my eyes once more but this time I had to stay calm. Next to me was Riku but I knew he wasn’t real. The one I was focused on was Sora. I decided to smile at him even thought this dream wasn’t a happy one; I smiled to give him hope. The dream started out with us all laughing at a joke that was never said. Sora was laughing so hard he fell of the tree. I had to hold back the tears, I knew those days of laughter were over.
“Sora!” I managed to laugh out, try to make it sound good. Riku went to help Sora up; this is where the dream was going to get bad. Sora stood up and smiled at Riku but Riku didn’t smile back. Why did the dream have to be this way? Why couldn’t I just warn Sora and the dream be over? I hopped off of the tree and stood behind Riku, still smiling.
“Sora,” I said, “soon you will have to face what you think you fear. Please don’t give in to those fears.” My throat was starting to close in on itself, trying to let out an emotion I didn’t want Sora to see. I had to give him the second part of the warning before speech wasn’t a possibility for me.
“You will be tested Sora. A force you thought was trustworthy will break that trust. If allowed to stay in power, you will be destroyed.” After those words left my mouth, the fight began and I couldn’t watch. All of the sudden I heard Sora scream out in pain. I turned around and saw Sora lying on the ground, blood pooling on his back. I wanted to run to help him but the unknown voice was holding me in place with that stupid smile on my face. Riku gave Sora the final part of the warning since I no longer could.
“You must succeed Sora, or you will loose your mind.” Our time was up but I wasn’t ready to go. I wanted to tell him everything and help him in his path. I then saw him reaching out to me and Riku, it broke my heart. Riku and I disappeared in a swirl of light, leaving Sora in pain and lonliness.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The force didn’t take me back to the dark place but sent me back to my island. I couldn’t help but worry about Sora. Would he get the hint or would he only worry about me? I just sat on the beach in thought, wondering if I was of any help. Catching me off guard, pain shot through my heart. I then saw the most disturbing picture I will ever see in my life. There in front of Hollow Baston was Sora and his keyblade sticking out of Riku’s chest. My help had failed but I wasn’t about to give in. Like the voice said, I was a Princess of Heart, there was always a way.
Yeah I know what you all are thinking: what did the voice tell Kairi about Sora. Well I can't tell or that would ruin the story. Untill next time kiddies!
