Alright so I'm probably not the first to do this but I've always been a huge fan of indie games and thought I'd share a list of my favorites with some of you good folks. Now indie games are kind of an acquired taste and are not for everyone so just bear with me here. You might need a .zip program to unzip some of these files, scroll all the way down for a link

1: Cave Story [ Cave Story (Doukutsu Monogatari), A Tribute Site ]
Ok now I haven't downloaded this in a while but I think the Cave Story deluxe link would be your best bet. Although you could dl the japanese version then dl the english patch. Unless you are one of those purist types and would like to play it in Japanese as it was originally intended. Now this is probably one of the best games I've ever played. One thing you must keep in mind is: graphics aren't everything. I know I know. It's tough to stomach at first. But you'll get used to it. (FREE)

2: World of Goo [ 2D Boy: Games ]
You can find the demo for this game if you scroll down a tad bit. The demo is pretty long imo and should give you a good idea of what the game is like. It's a little pricey at 20 bucks, but I thought it was money well spent. Definitely a lot of fun. If you like really quirky games then this one is for you. You have to build a tower of goo in order to reach the "goo balls" to the pipe. The pipe then sucks all the goo balls up and depending on how many goo balls you can save, that determines your score. It's rather hard to explain so try it yourself.

3: Echoes [ b i n a r y z o o . c o m ]
Scroll down the page for the download. I believe this one is free. It's kind of like the old game Asterioids but you can move around and upgrade your gun. I enjoyed this one for a long time. It's rather good if you're bored and need something to do for a little while, as it is an arcade style game. If you have epilepsy stay away from this game, as there are many flashing lights and such. (FREE)
spewer2.jpg

4: Spewer Spewer
Although this game is just a flash game, It was still a really fun play through. You can download the game if you like. The download link is on the title screen of the flash game itself. In this game you play as a test subject. You navigate through the levels utilizing your handy ability to eat stuff up, then regurgitate it all back out. You can use "spewer's" puking abilities to propel yourself to higher ground, knock stuff off ledges, hit switches, and various other things. As you progress your puke will do different things as well. Lots of fun, good play through. (FREE)
aquaria_4.jpg

5: Aquaria Aquaria - Bit Blot
Now if you are a person who really enjoys marine biology or had lots of fun in the "Little Mermaid" world of KH (jk jk) then this is the game for you. You play as a fish/person named naija. She doesn't remember her past blah blah blah you know the drill. Now not everyone will like this game straight off. You kind of have to be dedicated to really like it. If you aren't a very patient person you probably won't like this game, or maybe you will, it's totally circumstantial. The graphics are beautiful imo. I highly highly recommend at least trying the demo. the demo can be found on that page i linked up there ^
noitu2_scr01.gif

6: Noitu Love 2 [ konjak.org - First hit for excrulimicatination on google! ]
This one is kind of a button masher, although very fun. As we all know from the KH series there is nothing wrong with button mashing. This is a side scroller where you are constantly getting enemies thrown at you. Hack and slash your way through to move on, until you hit a boss. Pretty straight forward game. Lots of fun. The demo is on that page i linked, just scroll down a bit.
braid-20080220010603377_640w.jpg

7: [ Braid ]
I had to mention braid some where along the lines. This is one of my favorites. Unfortunately I don't think there is a demo available for it. I recommend doing some research on it, then wait for steam to put it on sale. It's definitely a great game. You play a man who is searching for the "princess" (wow real original) as you can see it pays a lot of homage to the mario series. definitely a lot of references in there. This is a sidescroller where you have the ability to rewind time as you go along. You will need this ability to solve the puzzles and move one through the levels. As you progress through the game, the rewind ability will evolve and do different things. Definitely a spectacular game, beautiful graphics (if you appreciate art).
audiosurf1small1.jpg

8: [ Audiosurf ]
This is a game a lot of people can enjoy. There is a demo but i think you need steam in order to download it. How the game works is, the game scans your computer for your mp3 files and automatically utilizes them in the game. Just choose from your list of songs and then you can "ride your music". It's a lot of fun with a good amount of different game modes. try the demo if you have steam.
dino-run_screen2.jpg

9: Dino run - D I N O * R U N -
This games really fun for a few playthroughs. It's rather short and again, just a flash game. But I like the sense of urgency it gives you. You play as a small dinosaur as you try to out run the apocalypse coming your way. (FREE)
machinarium1.jpg

10: [ Machinarium ]
This one is a point and click, although it's got a nice spin on it. You play as a robot that has been sent to the trash heap for reasons unknown. Your objective is to return to the city. Very comical game and pretty fun. If you get stuck there are hints ingame and a full faq ingame. Although the only way to access the faq is to go through a short mini game first. this is probably to deter you from using it so you can enjoy the game to its fullest. Demo should appear right in the middle of the page, just let it load up.

If you are interested in downloading steam in order to play some of these you can get it right here [ What is Steam ] it's a free download. so no worries.
Also you may need a program for unzipping files for some of these games. I just use[ 7-Zip ]

I know not everyone has the same tastes that I do, just wanted to share some of my favorites with you guys. If anyone enjoys any of these let me know and maybe I'll add some more. Hope you guys enjoy these!

Yeah I've played Chalk. Really good game, liked it a lot. I thought I read somewhere that the creator was working on a more complex version. Could be just a rumor, looking forward to it if its true.

And what did Braid do to you!

edit: just looked into it konjak.org looks like a chalk sequel

Ah yes that would have been a great idea. It would have made a spectacular game for the ds. Hope to see that plan unfold.

Personally, I love trying out the various doujin fighters like Big Bang Beat, Akatsuki Blitzkampf, Melty Blood (though it's "indie" status is arguable at this point), Touhou, Yatagarasu, etc.

Meh. I've already played World of Goo, not too much of a fan.

Is Plants vs. Zombies an indie game? It seems to be of that type, but I'm not sure. That game wasn't too bad, I enjoyed a playthrough of it.

As for the rest of the games, I really am just too lazy to play them :p

Yeah I'd say plants vs zombies would definitely qualify. That was a pretty fun game imo. I thoroughly enjoyed world of goo though. Guess it's not for everyone. And as far as laziness goes, I feel ya man lol.
