So I went ahead and tried to 'spice up' a photo of my girlfriend and our nephew at the zoo, here's the shot:

I was trying to emphasize the light on both of them, and the right side is the water (we were in a viewing thing for sea lions and a polar bear) so if you want you can ignore that the water's all green-like because I'll probs crop it out.

here's two more; the first I wanted to make it seem like THEY were in the water (or i was, whatever) and the second I just cleaned up a bit because I didn't focus properly with my iPhone.

sorry they're so humongo, cropping in aperture has been a pain in the ass.

there we go :D

I'm not sure about this aperture app but I usually go with photoshop express to do all my stuff.

Yeah, I'm still playing around with it (just downloaded the trial last night). So far I like it because it's pretty simple and it's really easy to undo everything; the interface is kinda 'ehh' (especially compared to iPhoto, which is sad since I'm on '09 and the motherbonker's free) but I usually do everything in full-screen anyway (and I'm learning how to move the interface to my liking a bit).

comments on composition? anything good/humiliatingly bad?

sidenote: last one was taken with the girlfriend's point-and-shoot and edited in iPhoto.

girlfriend: "i still don't like that photo. i look like davey jones"

Compo is nice in both. Second I would say add a little more contrast and saturation to bring out that deep blue feel.

Managed to make it more blue; drives me nuts that I can't make her face more visible, though.
