I dont know what the hell happened last night but I shut my computer off like I always do and I woke up this morning and turned it on and something didnt seem right. My quick launch was gone, my wallpaper was gone. I opened up My Computer and I was shocked. Somehow overnight, I lost 80GIGS of items. I lost all of my Kingdom Hearts videos, pictures, soundtracks. I lost 35 gigs of music. I lost everything. This is so upsetting.

Oh tell me about it. I plan on getting an external hd this weekend @ Best Buy. This is never going to happen again. Basically all my music is on my IPOD for now so I need to figure out how to get it off there and back to my pc. There is software to do this, I just have to look for it.

OMG, is there NO way to get it back, i think that the only way to totally wipe something off your hard drive is a special military programme, my dad told me and it was on a programme, a man managed to get everything a computer had on it before the person deleted everything, seriously its true.

Wow, that sucks. Like so did you shut it down and then next day you started it? Was there a virus involved with it? Anyway, something sort of like that happened to my dad's laptop, though it breaks then they have to fix it or something...my Windows 2000 is not loading at all and not working, I wondered if I put a virus in it, that'd be bad.

Download the program winamp and it will let you take off the songs off your iPod to put them on your computer. My computer crashed earlier this year and almost lost 30 gigs of music until a friend told me about winamp.

The external hard drive is also a great thing to have, I bought a Western Digital 300 GB hard drive and an Adaptec enclosure for somewhat cheap. They've come down in price a lot since then, so I would go for it.

You never use Best Buy, or any other brand name/big name companies for technologies needs.
Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
Prices are always cheaper at newegg, and I think Best Buy might still be using their fake website. (with an added Disclaimer since the lawsuit)

Hope you find everything back. Look on the bright side, at least your computer has more space!

That happened to me once.
I cried for a whole hour.

I have over 60 gigs worth of stuff so...it's hard to get it back.

I have no idea what to tell you. You tried searching for the files I'm guessing...

Ooohhh, that sucks something awful. It's never happened to me *knocks on wood*, but you should definately go and buy an external harddrive. My dad found a 200GB for like $50, so you should have no trouble finding a reasonably priced one. Best of luck.

Yeah it sucks. But what can you do? I think total, it was 82gigs. It looks like someone hacked om and clicked every folder and deleted everything inside but the folder. It fing sucks. Oh well. But yeah I plan on getting an external hd. Thanks for all the replies guys. It's making it kind of better:thumbup:

There are shops willing to do these types of recovery when stuff mysteriously disappears from your hard disk drive, but only at a somewhat high price if you want your stuff restored. Unless you have some stuff on that computer you don't want people to find out about , you could always give it a try. And yeah, depending on what hardware your computer is running (more like how weak at times), if a program doesn't close properly, you can end up with wiped out files if you're not careful when you start your computer again. (Happened to 300 gigabyte worth of files before last time I recalled...) If you remember the time the wipe out occurred, you could go to administrative tools and check the error log to see what happened or what conflicts might have happened.

And what square-enix, newegg.com is definitely a nice place to look for a new hdd compare to Bestbuy. If you have a Fry's nearby, there might be a good deal or better than what you can find at Bestbuy, at least for me anyway.
