Well, I have a decision to make. My parents have seen how bad I'm doing in school and they've been pretty pissed. I know I'm smart and that I could do great in school, but I just don't try. I'm pretty lazy, so I normally end up never turning in assignments.

So, my parents asked me the other day, since they have tried everything to get me to do good in school, if I wanted to be homeschooled.

I don't know much about it. So can someone please tell me more about it and if I should?

You can kiss your social life goodbye if you are home schooled. Is it that hard to turn in assignments?

I always wanted to be homeschooled at first since I thought it would be easier. My mom is a single parent so it would never work out. If you are homeschooled you probably won't get to see friends, except on the weekends really if that is possible.

I say stop trying to be lazy and ask your parents to help, tell them so they can help you with study, homework, and projects, and you might do better.

If you think homeschooling would be better than I say do it. It isn't me being who had the choice.

Your just going to have to get out of that damn lazy"I think it's still summer vaction"(or ITSV I like to call it) state of mind and get to work. It's hard to kick the ITSV, but you need to to pass. Get help go to school early and ask teachers questions. Read ahead. Hell work hard now, and have a nice house and family be lazy later.

Lies.
Anti-socialism with homeschooling is a lousy stereotype.

It's when homeschooling relates strictly with one's religion when things start getting weird.

Uh, yeah, I homeschool and I have lots of friends. How? I go outside. =/ I work. =/ I go to church. =/

PM me if you want to know more, FuS3, though it seems you've been put off. I'll agree, homeschooling deprives you of seeing your friends every day, but that still doesn't mean you don't have any friends or you can't ever hang out. And, uh, isn't the whole point of school to get educated? Sure, socializing is a part of education, but school isn't the only place where you can socialize.

Good bye social life?

Yeah right. I have plenty of friends who are home schooled. (I.e. three)

But how do I know them, you may ask? They joined a social group. (Cadets, just in case you're Canadian looking for friends, easiest damn place to make them. Plus they pay you to go to camp. Bonus)

And it turns out they're some of the nicest people I know. So if you want homeschooling, do not be afraid of losing that thing people call friendship. Besides, you or your parents can drive, amirite?

Uhh, yeah, but the point is that you have to go to unorthodox means just to have a chance of making friends. You have to join gyms, or clubs, or groups, or social events just to make freinds, and even when you're at those events you're a complete stranger saying "Uhh....hey.." in a completely awkward situation.

Whereas when you're at school you've got hundreds of kids all around you, and you have classes with people who you can readily meet and socialize with, you can clearly see and talk to and have the oppurtunity to be friends with the kind of groups of people you like. And when you're at School you are in the environment where you can learn about social events taking place, like Parties you can go to, or a Birthday you could get invited to, or a Holiday gettogether, etc.

Is it possible to make friends when you're Homeschooled? Yes. Is it easy? Is it as natural as when you're in a School environment? Can you do things as simple as "Hey, schools out, lets go to the Mall"? No.

I agree with Muffins.

Just cause I'm homeschooled and hate it.

I goto church like Deeman, but that is the limit of my social life currently.

So I'm forced to be a nerd. D:

Ha, you make it sound like school is the only place where one makes friends. I'll agree, it's probably the most casual environment in which one can befriend people, but it's not the only way to socialize, and that's that.

Also, I do homeschool, but I will be going to University. Socially unprepared much? Oh yeah, right. It's going to hit me like a ball to the head.

Not. I can't wait, actually. It'll definitely be a change, but in a good way.

Just do your homework, for goodness' sake. I mean, I hate school, procrastinate, and despise homework, but manage to pass with pretty decent grades, so just suck it up and do it. You said so yourself, your smart, just lazy. I think that it is easier to get and maintain a social life at school, but there is a life outside of school that you can also use to make friends.
But if you really hate school that bad, then I guess homeschooling is a good alternative. My friend recently quit public school for homeschooling, and she is really happy with it now. She says she is under less stress and is going to finish high school a year earlier than she would have at public school. She also says she now has more time to hang out with friends b/c she isn't being crushed with the workload that she experienced back at public school. The downside is that she has to spend all day with her mother, who annoys her, and she is locked inside the house all day (but she says it is just like being locked up at school all day, only without all the people)
And anyway, if you do go with homeschooling, then can't you still participate in activities and sports at your zoned high school? That's what we do where I live...

Uh, you can do that if you homeschool, easily. Why, just the other day, I went to the mall with a friend because school's out for the holidays.

Not the same scenario.

Last bell rings, School is out for the day, you're walking through the halls with your friends you say "Want to go to the Mall?" "Sure", you then go to the Mall

That doesn't happen when you're Homeschooled, why? Because you're not even there. You're not in that hallway, you're not walking with your friends, you're not there to just go to the Mall with them. if you're to be included in that scenario, what would need to happen? Well first off, you friends would need to even care enough to think that maybe you should go with them, but why should they bother? Phone calls would need to be made, plans to be checked whether you can go or not, where you'll meet them, how you're going to get there, etc.

If I'm with 4 friends and after school we decide to just hang out some place, we're not going to think "Hey, maybe that...one guy should...come with us...", no, we're just going to go hangout because we're all right there already, we're not going to think about that one kid who's homeschooled and consider if he wants to go with us, screw that.

ya!

Unless he was one of your good friends before he was homeschooled. Then you would call him.

No, if you're homeschooled, you don't lose your social life. But, I did... and that's only because I had 3 friends in the first place. D: They either moved or their parents started hating me, so not my fault, huh?

Homeschooling is actually a good thing. No, you don't have to stick to a religion. [I didn't even go to church when I started homeschooling. Many curriculums, though, ARE religion oriented.] No, you don't lose your social life. No, you won't become a nerd. But, it actually helps your grades and schooling. I was public schooled until 7th grade, then my parents pulled me right out and I'm so incredibly glad that they did. I now have a perfect average, I get all As and some Bs, and before I mainly got mixed As and Bs in public school because no one was helping me learn any of the stuff, mainly math. I was on my own for most of the stuff, and it was very frustrating when a teacher expected you to learn something just like that. And it was also annoying when we skipped around in the book and didn't finish it... >__<

You also get to take any classes you want. Want to learn French, Japanese, Latin, etc.? I'm learning Japanese right now, and I probably would've been stuck with a language I hate in public school. I also get to count artwork as school work, so I can paint, make clay items, draw, work in Photoshop, and it's plenty more fun than the art classes I did because you get to do what you want.

With public schools, they don't really help you with things you have problems with. Each teacher has their own class to deal with, so helping with specific things for specific students is hard. But, with homeschooling, you've got plenty of people to help you understand concepts. Your parents, teachers from a curriculum [I'm on one of those curriculum things. You send tests in, they grade them, and you get them back. There's self tests, too, but the answers are in the back of the book, and you don't send those in.], parents on any 'email' groups for homeschooling, and even the book itself sometimes. What's also good about homeschooling is you go at your own pace, and you actually finish the material, unlike what happens at some public schools.

If you're worried about losing your social life because your parents want you to succeed, don't be! There's plenty of ways to make friends and say in contact with your friends. You can meet new people at tons of places, and you can keep in contact with your friends VIA email, phone, IM, actually meeting them, whatever. I kept in contact with my best friend, and we hung out a lot over the summer when I first started homeschooling. It's not that hard.

Well said, Rena.

I rest my case that homeschooling does not affect your social life, unless you allow it to. Every person is different. I consider myself a social person; I love hanging out with friends and going to the mall and movies with them. Homeschooling does not deprive me of such pleasures.
