Anyone know anything about this?

I saw one at my bother-in-law's
house, although at the time, I didn't take much notice, or think to
ask.

However, basically, one of my nephews was playing a game on a
hand-heald, and then threw it up and was playing it on the TV, and the week
after, I was like, that would be handy...play on a hand-held if the kids are
watching goofy cartoons, but throw it up on the TV if I'm by myself (or vice
versa if I am watching football and they want to play a game.)

Anyway, I
just have no idea what this is or how it works, if someone could fill me in, I
would greatly appreciate it!

I don't have a good idea on what it could be, but it sounds like a Wii U or a Gameboy advance linked into a Gamecube.. But you'd probably know if it were those or not lol

Yeah, it sounds like the Wii U. Did it look like this? It's not a handheld by any means though; this is actually the controller.

I know the PSP had that capability for some games and the right cables. Or a Vita remote playing a PS4?

Maybe it was a Wii U gamepad that you confused as a handheld? I don't know.

Are you able to describe it better?

Just wandering around
The only thing I can think of is the PSP being able to connect to a TV (I know this because I wanted to play BBS on a bigger screen but I never figured it out :p).

Let's speak hypothetically because I will probably get wrong for this. It's hypothetically very possible to play both PSP and the Nintendo DS (not the 3DS) LEGALLY using emulators hooked up to the TV through a HDMI cable, for the PS and PS2 emulators you need to have the BIOS file from your own console, but I don't believe this is the case with the handheld console versions. Again hypothetically I could download English patches of the final mix games, play them on my laptop hooked up to the TV and it would look pretty marvelous, especially through syncing an xbox 360 controller to it so Birth By Sleep Final Mix feels like a proper game. Emulating is legal if you use your own games to play them, although I am definitely not that tech savvy. Now I don't know if this is what you're looking for or if perhaps you just wandered past someone playing a Wii U but if you wanted any help on the matter I could help with my hypothetical knowledge.
