THERE IS MORE SHOOT ME. less than 50 seconds isn't enough to judge if it looks good or not but i'm not feeling so upset anymore. i'm disappointed but ugh...

So far I like the atmosphere I'm seeing but it's way too little to judge much else.

Here's hoping that despite disappointing casting this is overall not a piece of crap.

Re: Ghost in the Shell (2017)

Why are they listed as 4 and 5 if there were only two teasers? Not much to say since they were both so short

Re: Ghost in the Shell (2017) - 5 new teaser videos

Not gonna lie, I'm actually pretty excited for this movie. Gotta love Ghost in the Shell. I know that there are chances it will end up horrible, but I'm in an optimistic mood today haha.

Re: Ghost in the Shell (2017) - 5 new teaser videos

I am interested in seeing this. I haven't seen too much of Ghost in the Shell (only a few episodes of Stand Alone Complex actually) but I enjoyed what I saw from those episodes. So I'll be interested to see how I like the movie compared to fans who have seen and/or read the whole series.

Re: Ghost in the Shell (2017) - 11/13 first reveal

Eh, I don't like this at all. It doesn't have any of the amazing mood the original has. The Major feels too human and that nude body suit looks horrible. Feels too Hollywood. I also dislike it when the protag talks too much about how they feel, or we can even hear their thoughts. Show, don't tell. The original gave that "who am I" feeling through everything, it was told through other means than by just plain saying it. Meh, no reason for me to watch this when the original is already better in every way from what I've seen so far.

I'm not writing the movie off just yet cause it does look promising but the latest trailer has me a bit hesitant. I just hope they don't turn this into a setpiece showcase where the film is visually stunning and full of action, but lacking the heart and depth of the source material. Kinda getting that vibe from the most recent trailer, but I'm still interested.

I actually love the looks of this film adaption.
I was hesitant about scar jo doing the role of Major.

Now I think she suits it a lot.
I'd watch anything with her, a Danish American in it.

When I first heard of this, I thought it was completely stupid.
A few months later, I thought it showed promise.
Now I just think it's "eeeeeeeeeeh." XD

Nobody is on board with the white washing, let that be known now. It is very clear they are selling this film on ScarJo and nostalgia. It's not okay, and I think people are well within their rights to want to boycott anything they want if they feel strong about it.

People have been more open to accepting the idea of the film if it turns out to be a good adaption despite the white washing. But no way are people close to being "on board" with this. Curious? Sure. Hopeful? Yeah. Happy? No.

People have been more open to accepting the idea of the film if it turns out to be a good adaption despite the white washing.
This is what happens every time a film uses racist marketing tactics and I find it so tiring. The idea that a film even can be good despite actively undermining representation and engaging in cultural appropriation is such a loaded statement and speaks to this false liberal outrage which is more about spectacle than meaningful confrontation within the arts. When informed people are so weak on their principles that they won't even allow the condemnation of a film's net negative impact to stand without introducing some caveat about a minor feat in production values it sends a message to film producers that this kind of appropriation still makes for an effective sell because it will be tolerated so long as they deliver on a product with sufficient entertainment value; that such an arbitrary value is perceived as ultimately outweighing the living concerns of marginalized actors and filmmakers is the whole problem. And that's why the trend hasn't subsided: it's why cis men continue to get cast as trans women and win awards while doing it, and why white women continue to deprive women of color of the only expansive roles that might ever be available for them and get rich while doing it.

In case anyone else wants to talk about why whitewashing characters doesn't matter.
