Yeah I got bored at uni the other day, so I went outside and stared at the lake for a while, and created this hokum about the sea, partly inspired by the song Kings Upon The Main by Thrice.

(G)listen

You sit their vacantly exposed
behind an array of towering creatures
whom sit idly by and grow
pervading your natural features

Despite gracefully ebbing away
I'll happily sit here and let you
for I know that when skies turn grey
you'll come back the way I left you

Whatever lurks beneath your surface shine
whatever taints you with its content
however many creatures thrive
your touch is nothing less than perfect

Although one day I'm sure you'll die
Although one day I'll leave you
yet underneath your glistening shine
is where I'll find the real you.

For whatever poison lay inside
or fully exposed for all to see
there is no man who ne'er denied
the power of your beauty

If we sail upon your touch
and I'll be grateful if you let me
I'll pray for those who sail above
consumed in grace by thee

'Set sail my friends' I cry below
'Yessir' they wail elated,
but time exposed your roaring bellow
is our voyage cursed and fated?

Your thunderous waves about to pound
our humbling shield, our vessel
I'll beg that we may not be drowned
and caught up in his tackle.

For Styx doth end and source doth start
our anchor now released
we sit and listen to your chant
our souls now bequeathed.

When Kings Upon The Main Have Clung To Pride
And Held Themselves As Masters Of The Sea
I've Held Them Down Beneath The Crushing Tide
And Let Them Know That No-One Masters Thee

The fact that there's no meter kind of throws me off a little bit when reading it, but not all poems need a meter.

It's interesting. Very thought provoked, I can tell.

Thanks for the comments folks

And I agree I should try and use a meter more often JH, this was just a spur of the moment writing that sufficed :)
