It's been quite awhile since I've written a fanfic. So after all this time, decided to give it another shot. This will be a spin off from the old series of Fullmetal Alchemist. Not Brotherhood. There's a chance there could be an OC in this. Which stands for Orginial Character. There won't be a timeline and there will be alterations of characters, fit to my uses for this story. Point of views will change occasionally throughout this too. I hope those who take the time to read this, enjoy it and excuse any mistakes/errors I make.

Chapter One: Trouble Arises

The sound of a train blowing its whistle sent chills down a young lady's spine, and she held onto her hat as a rush of air brushed past her and lifted the ends of her dress up playfully. A grin could be seen on her face as she held onto a brief case that held precious cargo of automail designed just for Edward Elric.

"I can't wait to see Ed and Al."

"Winry, you come back now, you hear me?" spoke a familiar voice behind her.

Winry turned around with a smile, gazing down at Pinako who held up a pipe in her mouth with Din by her side, wagging his tail and letting out an enthusiastic bark.

"I will," Winry said, kneeling down, giving Din a scratch between his ears. "Maybe I'll even talk Ed into coming back with me."

"He's as stubborn as you are, Winry," Pinako scoffed affectionately, "But it'd be nice to have the boys come home again."

"Time to board!" bellowed out a train conductor, opening up the doors to let passengers board the train.

"I'll call you when I make it to Central." Winry said cheerfully, giving Pinako a quick kiss on the cheek before picking up her brief case and making her way onto boarding the train.

"I'll have a stew waiting for the three of you when come back to Resembool!" Pinako smiled, watching her grown up granddaughter board the train, looking very much like herself at one time.

"I can't wait!" Winry called out, disappearing inside of the train, the door shutting behind her and the train slowly begin to pull out of its station. Din and Pinako watching it slowly become a blur as it grew further away until a black speck remained.

"Let's go home, Din."

[Winry's PoV]

Taking my time, I looked around for a good window seat as I made my way through the narrow gap of seats taken on the train. Unfortunately, most of the window seats were taken by couples sitting in pairs in their seats, children facing across from them. I could feel the train moving beneath my feet, that I had to steady myself by grabbing hold of the seats next to me.

"It's been so long since I've seen Ed. I wonder if he's grown any taller."

"I hope he didn't mess up his automail again or get into any more trouble while he was away."

"If he did, I'm going to have to knock some sense into him!"

A woman to be in her mid thirties gave me a bewildered look, clutching her child closely to her as she stared at me.

"I must of got that look on my face again when I get excited. Where flames appear in my eyes and I grip my arm, showing off my muscles and appearing tough."

I chuckle apologetically and continue to move on past her. With a huff, I make my way towards the back, heaving the brief case as I go, beginning to feel its weight. Finally, spotting one last opened seat with a window view. Even though it was in the back, near the cargo and not exactly a preferable place to sit for most people. Luckily for me, I didn't mind in the least and it's closest to the exit door.

"It sure is crowded today."

A speck of blue caught the corner of my eye, breaking my train of thought as I gazed at the uniforms worn by those of the military. An old man was sitting in the middle seat, hunched over with a cane between his legs, looking quite uncomfortable by his traveling companions. A small medical case was held under his arm, as if he was afraid someone would steal it from him.

The woman on his right had an amused expression on her face, propping her head up with her hand, loose black strands of hair framed her face. Having felt my stare, she slowly turned to face me and winked at me.

"Oops didn't mean to stare."

My face grew hot that I quickly turned away, peeking out of the corner of my eye to see the woman with unusual colored eyes lean across the seats to speak to the young man sitting across from her and drawing his undivided attention onto me.

"Probably making fun of me for staring- huh?"

As I continued to peek at the pair, the young man's face broke out into a grin as he listened to his female companion, speaking quickly with enthusiasm that the old man between them grimace in pain; as if listening to him talk made him feel guilty. The woman gaze once more at me before settling back down against her seat and kept her attention on the old man.

"That's odd."

"Maybe they know I"m a friend of Ed's?"

Dismissing the weird feeling I was getting inside of my chest, I felt a pang of disappointment, wishing there was a familiar face among them; that I could speak to on my way to Central. Someone like Major Hughes, with his fatherly figure to Ed and Al.

"I wonder how old Elicia is now."

"Maybe I'll stop by for a visit, while I'm here in Central."

Throwing my brief case above me on the rack, I took a seat, allowing myself to relax and watch the scenery past by in the window. A small chatter began to form amongst the train, passengers speaking to each other in hushed tones, that I paid little mind to it.

"I WONT LET YOU DO IT! I REFUSE TO HARM AN INNOCENT GIRL!"

I jump in surprise, looking over a few seats at the old man standing up from his chair, breathing hard with a bead of sweat rolling down the side of his face, that he grabbed out a handkerchief to wipe it away.

Before anyone could move or speak, the old man was yanked back down into his chair by the woman who started to scold him. Except the old man wasn't having any of it until the young man whispered something into his ear; making the old man glare and gasp in shock.

"I wonder what that was all about? He couldn't have been talking about me, right?"

"I'm sorry for the sudden outburst folks, Dr. Marcoh is just in distraught over some tragic news," spoke the young man, rising from his seat, "So please return to what you were doing."

I quickly scanned both his clothes and the woman's clothes for the familiar silver watch that most state alchemist carry. Except neither of them had one on their person.

"They must be state officers then. I wonder if they're concealing weapons beneath their clothes?"

"You must be a friend of that pipsqueak- I mean, Edward Elric, right?"

I looked up briefly to see the young man from earlier was standing right before me, a smile on his face that didn't quite reach his eyes. His hair was an unusual color sticking out slightly from beneath the cap he wore on his head.

"Mind if I take a seat?" He asked kindly.

I cast my eyes behind him to see the old man clutching his arm in pain, gazing at me with a sorrowful expression. That I hesitated much to the young man's displeasure. Quickly giving him a smile.

"Sure." I nodded with indication, watching him take a seat and stretch his arms out until they make a sickening crack sound.

"Stay calm Winry. It's not like he's gonna kidnap you or anything. He's part of the military."

"How'd you know I was a friend of Ed's?" I asked, mustering up the courage to speak.

"You're coming from Resembool. Ed often talks about his number one automail mechanic from there. Bragging about you to everyone within listening range and showing off his automail."

"That sounds like him."

"I'd imagine you're going to see him?" He asked curiously.

"Something tells me that I shouldn't try lying to him."

"Yes, I want to upgrade his automail and make a few friendly visits to some friends of ours while I'm there in Central."

"If you like, I could bring you to him when we're there-" He began, leaning in intently, appraising me with his eyes.

"No, No! You don't have to do that!" I protested with a wave of my hands, as if to fend him off much to his...amusement, annoyance? I couldn't tell. A predator gleam was in his eyes and I was drawing a lot of attention to the passengers around me.

"But I insist," He said, catching my hand in his, "A pretty girl like yourself shouldn't be left alone without an escort."

"I already have a friend waiting for me at the station." I quickly lie, trying to appear calm and collected.

"Please reconsider my offer, Winry." He pleaded, squeezing my hand a little more tightly then necessary. Making me feel trapped.

"Good thinking Winry. If only I hadn't packed my wrench away."

Inwardly I groaned, trying to gently move my hand out of his grip but, he held fast onto it. I gazed about, hoping someone would take notice that I wasn't enjoying this creep's company but, no one took notice. As if sensing my growing discomfort he lets go but, not without a smirk on his face.

"If you insist, then I won't stop you." I say quietly. Deciding it'd be best just to humor him and make a break for it at the station.

"Good! We'll take you right to him when we get there!" He cries out in excitement, removing himself from the seat next to me with a skip in his step and walks back to his seat.

About to let out a sigh of relief, I catch Dr. Marcoh gazing at me and mouthing the word...

"Run."

"I barely know him but, maybe I should run. I don't even know his companions names and they obviously know mine."

"Just act natural. Like your not doing anything wrong or to be suspected of."

The moment I stood up, I felt all three of their eyes on me that I felt a bead of sweat roll down my back. Taking deep breaths, I took my brief case down, pretending I was checking it for something before leaving it on my seat, hiding the wrench behind my back and making my way to the exit door.

Fear pounded inside my chest as I made my way past them, that I suspected they could hear my heart racing if they listened closely enough or notice the wrench being held in my left hand that was begining to sweat. I tried to keep my face natural but, it was growing harder to do so when I heard the sound of someone getting out of there chair.

The sunlight illuminating the inside of the train vanished beneath the clouds, making it much darker inside of the train that I quicken my step, moving towards the phone and reaching out for it. Only a hand picked it up before I could. Making me instinctly back up and bump into something or someone.

"I'm sorry. You'll have to wait before you can make a call to Central." spoke a familiar voice behind me.

Without thinking, I threw my left hand up that was holding the wrench and tried to knock the creep away from me. Except he anticapted it and quickly restrained my arms in both of his hands.

"Winry! It's just me!"

There was a flash of light, the creep I was fending off was no longer there but standing in his place was Edward. The red jacket hanging off of his shoulders, golden hair twisted into a braid lying across his shoulder, gold colored eyes looking into mine and the silver pocket watch hanging from his waist.

"Edward?" I ask in disbelief.

A sinister smile crosses his face in answer that an unexpected blow to the back of my neck sends me crashing down to my knees , making me slowly black out in pain.

~~~
"Foolish girl. You should of waited until we made it back to Central." spoke a regal feminine voice, standing before her and looking down at the pitiful auto mechanic on the floor.
"I can't believe she fell for it! Such a stupid girl! Just like all the rest of these pathetic humans."
"That's enough Envy."
"What have you done?" Dr. Marcoh asks in horror.
The two homunculi turned to face him, stepping aside to show Winry lying there on the ground, hidden partially by the shadows with her hand out stretch...as if reaching for her wrench.
Decided it's time to get this back up and running. Sorry if it's short. Enjoy!
Chapter 2: Threats and a cup of Tea?
Dr. Marcoh paced around the room, wringing his hands together anxiously, after having tried to get the door to budge open. Only it was locked. Letting out a frustrated sigh, he gazed out the window of their two story hotel, seeing people bustling below, and going about their personal affairs. After twenty minutes, did Marcoh spot two familiar officers in their blue military uniforms with the lion insignia on the collar, and thought about calling out to them.
Except, Marcoh couldn't stop himself from shaking at the thought of the homunculi finding out, and killing him for, making a spectacle of himself. After all, it was the military that lead him right into this mess. For knowing the secret ingredients for the philosopher stone, creating deadly weapons out of alchemy.
"I should of stayed hidden." He muttered to himself.
"Now, now, is that any way to speak to your kidnappers?" Envy hissed into his ear.
"Get back!" Dr. Marcoh shouted, swinging his arms around wildly to keep the homunculi at bay. "I don't want to be a part of this! I won't make the stone for the likes of you!"
"We owe it to the Elric brothers for finding you. Without them, we would of had a lot more trouble in detecting you." Lust said, from across the room, leaning against the windowsill.
Dr. Marcoh breathed heavily, knowing the Elric brothers weren't to blame for this, and didn't want anyone else to get hurt. Especially the young auto mechanic who, slept soundly on the bed with bandages wrapped around her forehead. "Why did you bring the girl into this? She has nothing to do with the stone!" Dr. Marcoh protested.
"Shut up. You're making a racket." Envy scolded.
"The girl is insurance. In case you fail, in giving us what we want." Lust said, smiling darkly.
"Insurance?" Dr. Marcoh questioned.
Envy sighed in frustration, grabbing hold of the front of Dr. Marcoh's collar, lifting him up, and slamming him into the wall. "Listen closely, because I'd hate to have to repeat myself a second time. The girl is the key to the stone. If we have her, the Elric brothers will be playing right into our hands. Should we harm her, they'll fight their hardest to get her back. For now, we won't touch her unless you do something stupid."
Dr. Marcoh paled, inhaling sharply at the thought of them harming the young mechanic. "You're monsters. All of you."
"Stay put. Don't make any noises. And we'll be right back with our master, who is anxiously waiting to see you again." Envy said, letting him go and following Lust out the door.
The sound of a bed creaking with movement made him turn around. There on his bed, laid the young mechanic, who was stirring awake, and groaning in pain. Probably from moving too fast he deduced. Dr. Marcoh sat down in the empty chair sitting across the room, letting the girl adjust to the harsh light of the room, and come to her senses.
"Where am I?"
Dr. Marcoh cleared his throat. Immediately her blue eyes fell on him, studying his every movement, before recognition set in and calmly sat up in the bed. "You're the man on the train," She began, clutching the blankets in her hands, pinching it between her fingers. Most likely to hide the fear setting in.
"I'm sorry... so terribly sorry. I didn't mean to drag you into this. My name is Dr. Marcoh, former alchemist of the military."
"Winry." She replied.
"Do you know, Edward and Alphonse?"
The hope in her voice was hard to miss. Dr. Marcoh gave a nod of indication. "They were on their way to the main branch library in Central. I can only hope they've found what they're looking for."
After a awkward moment of silence, Dr. Marcoh looked into the palms of his hands. "I'll do whatever they say to ensure your safety. I won't let anything befall a friend of Edward's. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself, if I did."
"Don't worry. I'm sure Ed and Al will come find us. They always do."
Dr. Marcoh tried to wipe the stricken look off his face, knowing that was the true objective to their capture. Abruptly standing up from his seat, did he grab a tea bag, soaking it in a cup of hot water and began stirring it. Knowing now wasn't the time to inform her of this. Deciding they needed to change the subject.
"How's your head doing, Ms. Winry?"
"It hurts a little when, I move too fast." She replied, pulling the bedcovers off of herself, swinging her legs down and standing up.
Dr. Marcoh scowled. "It's a good thing I'm a doctor. Nothing like some shut eye should help it go away. I'm sure you're hungry, and probably have more questions for me."
"Did they leave my suit case in here?" She asked, looking around for it.
"Why?" Dr. Maroch asked warily.
"We're busting out of here."
To be Continued.
Great to see a fanfiction from you, KitKat! You do a great job of setting up your story. Some of the language in that story is awkward, however, in particular the way you use "that" in a number of sentences:
The sound of a train blowing it's [its] whistle sent chills down a young lady's spine, that she held onto her hat as a rush of air brushed past her and lifted the ends of her dress up playfully.
"That" doesn't work as a conjunction in this sentence, so I'm not sure why it's here. A more appropriate word might be "and" in this situation.
Also, I would avoid "titles" in your fanfiction like "Winry's PoV" and "Flashback / Flashback Ends." Try to incorporate them into your story so that your reader understands what they are without having to be told.
Anyway, none of this interferes with your ability to tell the story, which is an exciting and fun read! I hope to see more.
I read this on my phone while at school today. There are a few grammar errors, but I can overlook that. I am curious to how Dr. Marcoh is going to save Winry.
Probably going to stick with short chapters till much more serious stuff arises.
Chapter 3. A Phone Call
A familiar white glove was shifting through tons of paper on a gleaming wooden desk, with big windows lining across the walls; letting tons of light in. A frustrated sigh could be heard within the room, making a few people halt to stared at the man with a knowing smile, and continued to move along, while the man set the pieces of paper back down, and leaned back in his uncomfortable chair. Giving up on the ever growing stack of paper work for now. Setting his undivided attention upon his phone; willing it to ring.
"C'mon Hughes, I could really use a distraction anytime now."
"Something wrong, Mustang?" Asked a voice nearby.
"It's a beautiful day. Here I am, slaving away over meaningless paper work, when I could be wooing every young lady in Central!" Mustang proclaimed, standing up and slamming his hands down on his desk. "Isn't that why I hired all of you to begin with?"
"Sorry, Sir. We got our hands full over here too." Fuery said apologetically, returning to his task of calculating damages from Scar's handy work.
"Get yourself promoted, Mustang. And you won't have to do anymore paper work. Somebody else will do it for you." Falman piped in, carrying large stacks of boxes into the room.
"What he said." Laughed a familiar voice.
A clean shaven man stepped around his lower ranking officer, strolling casually into the room, and taking a seat on Mustang's gleaming desk. Within minutes, he held out a new picture of his daughter. "Isn't she just the cutest thing? I got her this new teddy bear for her birthday. She's so adorable, isn't she, and looks so much like Gracia."
Mustang's eyebrow began to twitch, taking great restraint to not lunge at the gushing man. "Hughes. This is the thirteenth time you've shown me your daughter. Please tell me, those boxes don't have more files inside of them."
"Now Roy, how else am I going to promote you?" Hughes began, smiling cunningly. "Besides, you've nailed almost every available woman in Central. Poor Havoc here has struck out more times than I can count, because of you."
"Yeah! When are you going to set me up on a date again, Mustang?" Havoc complained.
"It's not my fault, you can't get to them fast enough." Mustang chuckled, stroking his chin. "Number one bachelor in Central."
An eruption of laughter broke out between the two of them, while Havoc lit up a cigarette and shook his head. "Why not go after Hawkeye? It's obvious she's into you."
Mustang coughed in shock, pounding his chest repeatedly until he could breathe right. "Your kidding me, right?"
Hughes smiled. "No. We're really not. It's against the rules, code of conduct, and whatnot. But, it's not like we're going to tell anyone."
"Tell anyone what?" Spoke a feminine voice behind them.
"Nothing, Lieutenant." Mustang said hastily.
Hughes averted his gaze, whistling and picking up a piece of paper; pretending to read it. Havoc inhaled sharply on his cigarette, coughing slightly, and opened up a box. Awkward silence filled the room, making the woman in question shift her stance from foot to foot, obviously uncomfortable from their secrecy. A few eyes strayed to look Hawkeye, drinking up her features hidden beneath her blue uniform, noticing the fill of her chest, smoothness of her skin, and shiny blonde hair. The sound of a phone ringing broke the onlookers out of their trance, nearly faltering with their paper work. Immediately, Mustang picked up the phone, and placed it against his ear. "This is Roy Mustang speaking."
"Sir, there's a woman by the name of Pinako wishing to speak to you. Said it was urgent."
"Connect it through." Mustang ordered.
After five minutes in, Hughes was the first be able to tell something was wrong, judging by the serious expression on his friend's face. The conspiracy of setting Mustang up with Hawkeye was set aside, including his picture of Elicia. A number of things went through his head, wondering what it could be. The reassuring tone Mustang was using on the phone, left a bad feeling in his gut. Knowing whoever was on the other end of the phone, wasn't bringing up any good news.
"What is it?" Hughes whispered, leaning across the desk.
Mustang placed a hand over the speaker. "Winry Rockbell is missing."
The room stirred into a frenzy at the shocking news.
"Do the Elric brothers know yet?"
"Could it be Scars doing? Might be using Ms. Rockbell as a hostage to get to Ed."
"Should we start searching?"
A piercing whistle echoed loudly inside of the room, making everyone cover their ears at the irritating sound. Automatically silencing the room, much to Mustang's relief, who shared a quick smile with Hawkeye in thanks, before addressing the room with a clear of his throat. "No, we're not going to let this information leak out into the public. We don't know her whereabouts, and we don't want to alarm the Elric brothers quite yet."
Hughes smile turned grim. "Is it wise to hide this from Ed and Al?"
"We can't have them come running back to Central with Scar on the loose. Especially Full Metal. He's being targeted for being a state alchemist, and still searching for the stone. Making him a lot more valuable to Scar to knock off on his hit list."
"What of Winry?" Fuery asked, setting his pen down on the desk, and left forgotten.
"Keep your eyes open for any sign of her. Anything that could lead us to her." Mustang ordered.
All of them saluted in unison. "Yes Sir!"
~~~

"Do you think we'll find what we're looking for, Ed?"

"If Dr. Marcoh was telling the truth, we should be able to find it here."

A suit of armor could be seen following a young state alchemist donned in a red cloak with the symbol of alchemy on his back. The sun was slowly setting behind a number of buildings, making people hustle on by to return home for the evening. The aroma of food filled the air, making it harder for the young alchemist to stay on track; his stomach constantly growling, followed by hunger pangs were making him hunch over, clutching his stomach.

"You sure you don't want to get a bite to eat first, Ed?"

"I'm fine," Ed grumbled, "Let's hurry along, get the notes, and be on our way. I'll get something to eat later, Al."

"Whatever you say, Ed."

As the pair rounded the street corner, the sight of flashing red and blue lights greeted them as military cars whisked by. Ed shared a look with Al before sprinting forward, following the cars speeding past them, and fearing the worst. The deafening sound of something exploding made Ed falter, colliding against a brick wall to keep himself steady as he approached the chaotic scene. Several people were screaming at once, being guided away by military officers. Smoke could be seen rising from the roof of the main branch library in Central. Completely swallowed up by flames; making it impossible to step inside of it.

Edward frantically looked around, grabbing the nearest officer by the shoulder. "What's going on?"

"Scar was seen entering the building an hour ago. By the time we arrived, we found the place set ablaze, and we're doing everything we can to get it under control."

"Another dead end." Al whispered in defeat.
