Forecast & Link Portals

How exactly does this work? Do the Nightmare silhouettes correspond to the Special Portals? Let's say I complete a Link Portal in Traverse Town & the silhouette isn't blacked out anymore. I drop & next time I come back, it's still the same Nightmare. I don't completely understand the "Now" "Next" parts. Can I select which Link Portal will appear?

*example* I've completed Special Portals 1-5 in Traverse Town w/Riku. A Thunderaffe is blacked out in the "Next" panel. Do I have to wait to drop again before I can complete it? And in Prankster's Paradise I know I've completed Special Portals 1-4 yet 5 & 6 aren't available yet. Do I have to complete certain tasks or have completed a certain amount of the story?There should be a portal for a Me Me Bunny in the Machine Room of Country of the Musketeers right now but there isn't.

Well personally, I'd do portals on the way through the story, and leave the last 2 portals until after the end of the game. Then at that point do all the special portals.

If the silhouette is blacked out, it is a portal you haven't done yet. Now means the current session you are in, Next means the session after you drop back to the character you are playing from the character you will play next when you drop in the current session. And you can't select which portal to appear, it is random but you can see what kind of day it will be, whether a Risky Winds day or Munny day, etc.

I think I got the hang of it now. So if I was playing Riku's side & the "Next" Nightmare is a Zolephant in a world, that's Sora's portal, correct? Also, does it take a few Drops for a Special Portal to appear sometimes? I didn't find any in Country of the Musketeers for Riku on my last Drop. And I must have made a good 2 or 3 trips through the world & all I found was normal Portals.

No, it's the portal for Riku once you drop back to him from Sora. Sora's is the "next" when you play as him and look at the event forecast.

And I don't think it takes a few drops for portals to appear. Portals were everywhere and I only dropped 20 times.

Huh. That's odd. Because I looked at a guide online to make sure there wasn't a Flowbermeow in Prankster's Paradise for Riku & sure enough it wasn't. It was for Sora. And I was still playing as Riku when I looked at the forecast.

Please do check the upper/lower/upside down/hidden areas because sometimes portals may not appear where you are standing. Some portals may have the same Dream Eater so it'll be easy to confuse them. For example...

The cathedral in Notre Dame has a lower and upper map. In the Country of Musketeers, one of the portals are hidden in a hidden treasure chest location and it won't display in your map until you've explored that small area. In Monstro, sometimes the portals are upside down so you have to hit the switch for it to appear.

In case you are wondering why you haven't seen certain portals yet, the portals are unlocked as follows:

- Special portals 1, 2, and 3 are unlocked the second Sora and Riku enter the world and you can beat them before you even do any story related things (if you can reach the areas, which generally is impossible)

- Special portals 4 and 5 are unlocked once you beat the story of that world and it say "Complete" with the characters face on the bottom left of the world map. 2 things to note: 1) You will only unlock 4 and 5 for the character you beat the story with; 2) You will revisit Traverse Town later in the game, so you will not unlock 4 and 5 for Traverse Town until you beat the revisit. Another thing to note, 4 and 5 usually appear randomly but not that infrequently, so keep dropping till you get them if you want to beat them then and there.

- Special portal 6 will only appear randomly ONCE you beat all the 5 previous portals, and by random, I mean random, I had to drop about 15 times in a row to get mine to appear in one world for Sora once, so don't lose hope if you don't see it on the forecast for a while.
