I'm certainly no expert on the subject but I think it'd be dope to try to recollect all the first person shooters and Korean MMOs we've played over the years. I'm pretty sure every OG that was involved in most of the earlier ones (KHI Ragnarok Server, the first UT99 servers) is like, gone by now, but overall I think KHI has had a colorful enough history with getting together and being gay on the internet to discuss our previous history with a variety of games and possibly attempt to ascertain why there isn't some sort of organized gameplay around these parts anymore. (ASIDE FROM LEAGUE OF LEGENDS, EVERYBODY PLAYS LEAGUE OF LEGENDS) I wouldn't know about the KHI Pokman scene, but from what I know KHI TF2 is like 3 guys on #junes, and Hokage/Ken/myself sure as hell don't play fighting games online anymore these days. If there's some sort of really big KHI Reach/MW2/Black Police Officers clan or something that's actually really mega active feel free to be angry at me if I'm wrong.
Early History:
The Midnighter (who was like, the second admin of KHI after devenkh2? i wouldn't know) was like, the guy who setup KHI Ragnarok Online (private) server with the assistance of Tsukasa. Apparently it was kinda small and it's not mega beefy like most other private servers, and it was hosted as like a 1.3 or so GB file from some guy's hosting service and it wasn't dope at all. Here's what Toilet Crusher (longtime Ragnarok Online player) had to say:
That's dope.
Around the same time though I think it was TM also who consulted with Azurith to host an Unreal Tournament 99 server. UT99 is basically Quake 3 Arena but shittier. Basically, it was retardedly popular and OGs from all over played that shit, Banishing Blade, MegaFlare, TheMuffinMan, Ulti, whatever yeah that shit. When Azurith disappeared a server would be hosted by assorted users from time to time; TM once brought it back through some weird server host that had a bunch of bonked up weapons plugins and it was not dope at all.
Relatively Recently (like 2007-2009 or something?):
I used to host the KHI UT server from time to time and enjoyed every bit of it, so in various attempts to expand on it I hosted servers for similar fps games like Quake 2 and Quake 3 Arena as well around the time everyone stopped playing dat shit. Quake 2 was super shotgun everywhere, Q3A was before Quake Live and it had a decent cd key authentication thing going on so it was difficult to Mexican pack a bunch of people onto the server with the same CD key. I think I may have tried hosting a Doom 3 server at one point.
Eventually as Nexon went balls out and brought microtransaction-based f2p MMOs into the mainstream (this probably happened way before 2007 but I don't give a bonk) most KHI regulars would rotate through several different games, including but not limited to:
S4 League: When it first came out the game was relatively popular; until Chevalier Sombre would come in and totally bonk everyone over with bad amounts of lag. Wall exploits and Getter Beams wewwwww pic of stacking: lobbystacking
Pangya!: Only like, a few people played Pangya I think (Toilet Crusher, AdmiralAdobo and TheMuffinMan I know did for a while), but I'm not sure if I'm mixing up my Pangya experience with KHI users or my old Steam group. This game is dope as hell
Starcraft Brood War: I forget if anyone else played with us, but I distinctly remember doing lots of 2v1s against Toilet Crusher and AdmiralAdobo and getting really damn salty
FREESPACE 2: By Ken's suggestion, we somehow got a really dope Freespace 2 server configured and it was rad as hell. Admittedly, most of us had no idea what was happening sometimes or tried to ram ourselves into each-other, but it was still really awesome. I wish I still had that server config tutorial damn. does anyone still have that
GGPO: Before GGPO I used to play a lot of Garou against Square Ninja on Kaillera. Around this time guys like Toilet Crusher and Hokage started to play a lot of fighting games; namely Street Fighter III: Third Strike and Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Have you ever lost to AdmiralAdobo's Freeman? You get mad
Battlefield 2: If a stoner guy and a creepy dude who doesn't know what's up asks you to get into a tank with them, chances are you really should decline that offer
Half-Life 2 Jaykin Bacon: Source: it's a metal gear solid mod for hl1 that has a bunch of stolen shit from the specialists, action half-life, counter-strike skins and a bunch of random other hoohaw and a katamari damacy map with a giant katamari you can kill people with i played this a lot with ric and even hokage sometimes IT"S A GOOD GAME
YVD: i dunno too much about this ask scubasteve or somethin
UT99 was really significant though in the sense that it was really big with most regulars in the community and was overall really successful as far as "community based gaming" was concerned back then. Around 2009 everything got real blurry and Hokage got really honking good at Street Farter and then stuff gort more blurry whats happenign
So what about u niggas? What fond KHI-related onling gaming memories have u had??? How can we organize the community better so we can have more fond gamming memories

[10:08] <murdertender> what was the khi ragnarok server like
[10:08] <murdertender> in 5 lines of text or less
