If Gilgamesh isn't a planeswalker, what are they even doing?
I don't know who or what you are referring to here (because I don't know much about the franchise), but they have said that they don't want to put any planeswalkers in these crossover sets, basically to protect the world (b)order.

I haven’t played MTG in years but it used to be my obsession. This crossover would have blown my mind back in the day. It'll be interesting in seeing how they incorporate Final Fantasy spells into MTG cards. Firaga, Curaga, Flare, Meteor, Ultima, etc.
I wonder what the difference would be between with the famous Lightning Bolt and Thundaga.

Update came early. 4 Commander precon (pre-constructed) decks along with the booster based on FF6, 7, 10, & 14. I was almost half-right on these predictions: I thought they would be 7, 14, overall 2D era, & overall 3D era, following in how the Doctor Who expansion had classic & modern era decks. But I was also thinking Sephiroth would've been the commander of the FF7 deck as most of these crossover sets did at least 1 villain focused deck.

Anyway, the commanders of the precons: https://www.ign.com/articles/magic-the-gathering-final-fantasy-commander-deck-reveal-spoilers

The full livestream where they discuss the revealed cards is here.

...and Yuffie gets a rename of an existing card instead of a proper card of her own? Seriously?!

Those cards are super cool! I especially like Cecil and his transformation.

But isn’t Jumbo Cactuar going to get banned? It reminds me of the overpowered joke cards from gimmick releases. I’ve been out of the game for a while, but I don’t think it’ll be that hard, whether through Enchantment or Instant, to give a green creature Trample, right? Once that happens, you win.

There's a myriad of ways to deal with Jumbo Cactaur: counterspells, exile, Pacifism, stealing control of it, etc JC has a high mana cost, if the opposing player doesn't have anything in hand to deal with it by turn 7, they frankly deserve to lose.

Cecil on the other hand, is legit OP for a 1 mana. Even the life lost tradeoff doesn't matter if he'll get it back later.

It costs 7 mana, meaning you need to have a way to get it into play without casting it, and then it needs another card to give it trample (and preferrably haste too). That's a three card combo. There are plenty of other three card combos that win the game right away and are much less vulnerable to removal. Unless there is a way to reduce it to two cards, it's not going to see any play in competitive decks.

That said, it is still bad design... I'm not looking forward to playing against it in limited.
