The brain is usually said to be the 'mind', but KH already has Hearts playing that part.

Um, Hearts are what carry your emotions and feelings. Nobodies like Axel and Roxas have no hearts but can think and plan perfectly. We only have the Body and Heart seperation, but the Brain? That can be a nice theory but unlikely, cause a nobody can think. What would the nobody be if it had no brain? A retarded nobody? Maybe not, we'll just have to wait and see.

See, Sora could think just fine without Roxas around. Riku was capable of enough coherent thought after XH kicked him out of his Body. And of course - XH himself, rather the intelligent Heart on its own, I'd say. No brain there.
So the whole "Nobodies can think so the brain has to do with it" deal doesn't really hold.

I don't really support the idea, it was just a random one I had.

Just like how they remember what it was like to have memories and express them as best as they can, that's what they do with a brain.

No idea why. If they were originally incapable of thought unless through that emulation, then it makes sense to have it.

They show something akin to emotions, despite lacking a Heart. Thus, they emulate the emotions.

Well, to be fair, look at it like that - The Heart is the emotion, the Nobody is the Logic. You need both to be a whole person that operates normally, otherwise you get things like CoM Sora that's a total emotional wreck, and on the other hand you get Nobodies that don't care about anything at all but are highly logical and are all scholars (because let's face it, even aside from the 6 that were AtW's apprentices, it seems all the Org memebrs took parts in various experiments in different roles).
That is to say - I'm not saying the Brain really does play a role, just that that's what we get when we remove emotions.
