"... a future period during which the pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed. Although neither utopian nor dystopian, this epoch will transform the concepts that we rely on to give meaning to our lifes, from our business models to the cycle of human life, including death itself."
- Raymond Kurzweil

It is the year 2039, and a year ago the future seemed bright. It started ten years ago with the invention of the Plirostimulatory implant, most often just called the implant. It gave us the ability to transmit information and sensory stimulation from across the internet into our minds, generating everything from amazing vistas to pornography as if we were right there. From that point the media shifted inexorably towards the Pliroverse as they now call it, entire virtual worlds hand tailored for people. Very quickly thousands of worlds were created, and we developed ways to interpret existing input in order to control virtual avatars. People spend more time online now then in the "real" world, not to say that the trend is either good or bad. And with advances in Synthetic Intelligence, immortality is for the first time within reach.
But not everything is happy on earth. Lately there have been strange goings on within the Pliroverse, even rumors of people dying within the net. The media is covering it up of course, they insist that these are but rumors, but the bodies are starting to pile up. The doctors are stumped, it seems as if the body is rejecting itself, turning against the mind. It starts with pain. Specifically, when their offline. Then the pain gets even worse, to the point where they need to be fed by their friends and family. Finally, the mind slips into insanity and they die within hours. It takes about a month for the disease to come full course, but once you have it there is no cure.
Some are blaming a group of rebels called the Resistance. They are a group of naysayers who are trying to bring down the network for good. They have been involved in a great deal of protests against the pliroverse, about half of which have become violent. The members swear they are innocent, but being the only ones who don't use the network they are the main suspects. Lately it's a very bad thing to be known as a member of the Resistance, their members are being slaughtered like pigs. And still the people are mostly ignorant of this, going on their favorite netsites as if nothing was wrong. Will someone get to the bottom of this, finding out who or what is responsible for this "Internet Plague"? I sure as hell hope so.

...

Welcome to Enter the Network! This is a story driven RP focusing on the vast post-singularity network known as the Pliroverse. Our characters are all users of the pliroverse, the one factor that unites us is that we all are looking for answers and a cure for this internet plague. This game will take place through a variety of different zones, as follows:

Earth - Earth much as we know it, but far more technologically advanced, as well as almost abandoned.

Happiness - A virtual world much like earth, but a place of both great fantasy and horrible realism. You will find you can defy gravity, hang out and do about whatever you want, but there are many gangs who will take your money or worse. It is still the most popular world despite these issues though.

Rebirth - A medieval fantasy world of blades and magic. As popular as world of warcraft is today, Rebirth is also the centerplace of geek culture. You can learn a lot here if you can stand the hackers.

Chapel - Most churches are strictly online now, and Chapel is the service that connects them all together. You can a church of almost any religion here, from Christianity to Satanism. Because of this it is a center of violence as well as worship.

Google - More of a metaworld, really. Google does mostly the same job as it did before, searching for online worlds as well as information, but in a virtual dataspace where the worlds are seen as through TV screens to select one.

Star Select - What Rebirth does for Medieval Fantasy, Star Select does for space sci-fi. It isn't as much of a geek center as rebirth, but it has it's share of dark secrets.

Other worlds may be added if you suggest something.
