All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.T.E. Lawrence

“Is he awake?”

“Not yet, his vitals are stable. However, his brain activities are going out the roof.”

“He’ll be sure to meet them soon enough…Just make sure Elizabeth is present”

“Why’s that sir?”

“Well it’s either that or his dreams will be a slave to thoughtlessness…”

Dream State
Phase One: The Mind, The Body and The Soul

Four strangers connected by the rope that binds the dream to reality. Some may call it fate, while others might refer it as coincidence or circumstance. Those with reoccurring dreams are distinctive, despite their own world not being in their hands, a host of others are. Without as much as a warning, those who are designed with the task to dream worlds into existence bear a heavy assignment. Initiators by name. Those created by the subconscious minds are deemed Founders. Ironically, Founders can become quite stronger than their Initiators in the beginning of their Dream State. Yet as time progresses, Initiators can become unfathomably powerful within their own dreams.

Remember ‘The Four’? They are still very relevant. The occurrence of a single individual achieving a Dream State has been proven to be less than a single fraction; .000014 to be precise. Four in a single generation is unprecedented, but who is to question at this point? Common knowledge of the Initiators has not reached the ‘real’ world. On the other hand, the knowledge is extremely expansive throughout the Dream State. Although those that reside in the Dream State are sentient, thus having their own notion of what or who is real or false.

To delve into said State, one must have moderate control of their dreams. Moderate control being the fact that lucid dreaming is in fact taking place. Of course some might think that taking advantage of one’s own dream is euphoric. But inside of the Dream State, a battle between life and death is ensued. Once inside, the possibilities are endless…

Dream State

The realm in which all events take place. Much like the real world, the DS shares much of its mechanics. That being said, time still runs within the DS despite Initiators not being present. One of the more important mechanics being that of death. While death can occur, it is much like an illusion. While the mind and soul are lost, the body remains in the Dream State. At the same time, all memories of the Dream State and real world are lost. Essentially it is like waking up in a world of amnesia. Although now that the Initiator has become deceased within the DS all their use of Phases has become limited up to their third. Not enough information has been learned in order for ‘deceased’ Initiators to return to their original bodies.

The environment of the Dream State always changes without warning. One minute the terrain could resemble that of a barren wasteland, and in another vast villages hidden in a valley could morph into being. No one is at all too certain what causes the terrain to shift, but most speculate to how a certain Initiator’s environment changes in the real world.

Dream State Sentients

Initiators

These four (three, since I’ll be RPing one of them) individuals all have the ability to enter and exit the Dream State through the connection of mind and soul. Each will play an intricate part in however the RP ends. To enter the Dream State, that person simply needs to fall asleep. Whether that sleep is forced or not is not important. Events that occur within the DS will in turn affect how each person reacts in their lives when they are awake, somewhat similar to that of a bleeding effect. These effects can be either negative or positive. Effects such as enhanced physical shape or a sore shoulder while awake can be a byproduct.

Abilities that initiators harbor in their beginning stages are extremely limited or put on restraint for a reason. The more each individual learns about their Dream State the stronger their abilities come. Interestingly enough, the ability of the Initiators can be anything within their imaginations. Literally. Initiators can unlock their abilities through Phases. Once a Phase is achieved, Initiators become a force to be reckoned with.

Founders

Dream State’s residents to put it frankly. Somehow these beings are different from the ones that are present due to an environment shift. The difference being that these individual’s mind, body and souls have all become a fabrication of a previous Initiator’s dream. How these beings became sentient is an anomaly altogether. Though it seems that each Founder has his or her aim toward a specific goal. Being stuck inside of Dream State for centuries has a wear and tear on one’s sanity; some might try to escape while others enjoy the feeling of surrealism. Some Founders have the resolve to work together toward a solution, yet at the same time there are always those that want to be alone.

The strength of a Founder fairly moderate, since Dream State is essentially a world of dreams, many Founders have found the means to wield magic. In fact, it would be quite eccentric if a Founder did not know the way of magic. Even going as far as to craft magic-based weapons constructed on the individual’s preference. Physical enhancements such as speed and strength have become common as well. Yet none seemed to have grasped the resolve of even remotely coming close to the power of an Initiator beyond Phase 3. Means of achieving a higher power have been speculated but not entirely proven as fact.

Nightmares

The extension of one’s unconscious imagination. These creatures harbor no restraint of power. In fact, they have no real intent aside from their sporadic instinct going awry in every sense of the word. How these creatures came into being is quite simple, the Dream State is the melting pot of all dreams, emotions and sentiments. Moreover, the single element that causes the formation of Nightmares is their souls. Their minds and bodies so far gone outside of the Dream State, the thought of retrieving them are non-existent.

No restriction begets destructive force. Nightmares can come in any shape, small or large but the level of strength that each obtains is unimaginable. As a result, any sane creature in the DS is sure to steer clear of these. Despite these creatures having such a unique and potent strong suit, the actual presence of them circulating throughout the DS is very rare. Yet if one were to present itself, the entire DS would be able to sense its existence. A Nightmare’s dismissal is only viable through death or environmental change.

Night Terrors

Much like Nightmares, these beings are merited with a negative connotation. Their only existence is a means to become existent in the real world. What separates Night Terrors from Founders are their connections with Nightmares. In the instance that a Nightmare strips a Founder of their soul, that specific Nightmare gains their mind and the Founder’s DS body. The transfer of power is somewhat controlled. Whilst the new body experiences minor alterations in appearance, the power of that ‘ex-Founder’ skyrockets.

While Nightmares are present in the DS, Night Terrors are not detectable through any of the six senses. As a result, NT’s could potentially use Nightmares as an advantage.

Elements

Soul Pulse

The measurement of energy that resides in the Dream State, every particle of matter, non-living has some sort of Pulse. While sentient beings embrace an extremely minute amount of Pulse, the ability to transfer, drain and disburse all reside in the area around them. The ability to create magicks or move at profound speeds does not reside in the being, but rather reside in the area: mainly the weather. Due to the fact that environmental shifts happen every so often, weather acts as a chain for usage of Pulse. Shadows…well darkness altogether prohibit any kind of power to be exerted. Conversely, light grants full use of all skills and abilities. Nightmares are not affected by Pulse.

Mind

The mind of all static beings within the Dream State are all existent save for Nightmares. The mind creates all emotions and personalities for DS and thus is intricate in the development of characters. The minds of Initiators are far more different from denizens of the DS. The mind of each Initiator is connection which is the reason they all fall into the same Dream State. If the mind of a single Initiator somehow becomes severed from the group, the outlier will fall into a darker state of sleep and a DS that is far more destructive from the others.

Soul

All members of the Dream State have a soul, sentient or not. If someone or something is robbed (killed) of their soul, their existence is lost completely. Souls can be tangible as well. Some might be sealed in certain object while the body lies dormant. The soul often gives off an aura of sorts. Souls can be sensed through use of ability that all DS denizens know, ‘Soul Wisdom’. The location, strength and transparency of a soul can all be known through this sense. Initiator’s souls can still be felt when outside of the DS.

Body

This element of existence are what most Founders and all Night Terrors want. To have a mind, body and soul are what begets existence in the real world. For this reason, when an Initiator enters their Dream State, they become the primary target of most beings. A body is the most prized possession in all of Dream State.
The Real World – The lives Initiators live every single day on earth. Each eats, breathes, thinks and acts just like regular humans do. In essence, it is the world me and you are living right now.

Bleeding Effect

The process in which contents from the Dream State interfere within the confines of the real world. A 100% bleeding effect is possible but extremely rare. Although even for the slightest bit of said effect to happen, one must spend a substantial amount of time within the DS.

Fugue State

This rare form of amnesia is exclusive to Initiators. Much like a reverse amnesia, the person’s memory of their own identity progressively deteriorates. Once the Initiator is inflicted with a Fugue State, the more time spent within the DS, memory loss reflects that time.

Rules:
1. No Powerplaying or Godmodding. You know what these are, if not, ask and someone will be sure to fill you in.
2. This is a relatively mature RP. So language won’t be an issue here. Just no over excessive F-bombs.
3. Character limit is only two. Limited spots only allow for so many characters.
4. Clarity. If you don’t understand something about the RP or something a person posted, ask.
5. Battles. Be reasonable in combat. Follow the elements of the Dream State and you should be fine.
6. Activity. If you’re not able to post for a while let and the others know just to make sure your characters isn’t unnecessarily killed off.
7. Somewhere in your template, post the phrase “dreams are nothing”.
8. Have fun with it! It’s meant to be open ended so just make sure your characters are creative and enjoyable to read about.
9. I will not accept any reserve posts. You can post the work in progress version of your temp, but do not expect it to be accepted incomplete.

I'm in this bro. I'll hit you up though, there are more things I wish to discuss.
Sounds good.

In the meantime I'll be putting up Elizabeth's template as an example as to what kind of characters should be constructed.

Made a few changes to the skeleton template so you might wanna go check those out. Also, feel free to make your characters stronger than Elizabeth. She's constructed the way she is for a reason :3
