Does Kingdom Hearts remind you of Star Wars?

There are some similarities between them. For example, Riku is a little like Anakin Skywalker. Riku was tricked by Maleficent, willingly opens himself to the darkness, and allows Ansem to possess him. Anakin was tricked by Palpatine, allowed himself to be corrupted by the dark side, and forms an oppresive empire. Star Wars and Kingdom Hearts both have a light versus dark theme.

A lot of things, other than Star Wars, have the light vs dark themes. Are there any other similarities you can think of? If not, than I'm afraid I must say that it doesn't remind me of Star Wars.

...Unless you count Xemnas' lightsabres.

Riku is consumed by darkness as he searches to help Kairi=Anakin is manipulated by the dark side as he tries to prevent Padme`'s death.

Travel to other worlds=Travel to other planets

Keyblade War=Clone War

King Mickey=Yoda

"Kingdom hearts"=the force

Keyblade=/=Lightsabor
Sora doesn't have a sister=/=Leia is Luke's sister
Disney characters=/=Alienes (accept for Stitch!)

The basic idea is similar, but KH gets deeper, and is pulled into a different direction.

Yup, deeper into a more craptastic storyline. At least SW's story is consistent, even if it's bad, whilst KH just keeps going from bad to worse.

its just approached differently. when you think of the heart of all worlds, Kingdom Hearts, you might say, that reminds me of the force, the main spiritual part of the universe, but its deeper. Ok, darkness in one's heart=the dark side, but the ideas are approached differently. kind of hard to explain. its when you see kingdom hearts, you feel one way, yet when you see star wars, you look at something similar and get a different feeling. i just think of it as similar principles with a different approach.

Riku being the chosen one (Anakin) but kinda turned to the dark side (Darth Vader).

Sora being Luke and taking being the new Keyblade's chosen one.

Xehanort's heartless is the Emperor.

Organization being the sith lords...

Mickey being Yoda.

Kairi is Padme.

It all breaks down...right?

Well the story telling of KH and Star Wars are similar as they follow the heroes story the basic elements:

• A hero that must conquer the darkness using a sacred weapon
• Home in danger
• Damsel in distress
• The Darkness looming disturbing the peace
• Friends to help the hero.
• The inner turmoil of losing a friend (in the case of Riku)
• Loss of insight (Sora's weakness during the HB first visit) due to a character flaw (negative emotions)
• Triumphant return
• Fighting the physical embodiment of Darkness
• Save the day and bring peace

Well that's the best I can remember of the story telling elements based off of reading and watching the Star Wars Mythology Special on the History channel.

I don't think it's overly similar, no. There're far too many differences, and the similarities aren't only between KH and Star Wars but are also related to too many things. They're popular motifs.
