Re: Digimon

They don't have any subtitles, at all. Nor do they have the original Japanese version. We're honestly lucky we even got the English dub on DVD at all.

ya. They're done. That's why they had all of the Digidestined show up the the last few episodes of Xros Wars. Closure.

Not sure what you mean by a huge gap between those two seasons, though?

Wow, that's kind of odd, don't they usually include the original dub on DVDs?

Oh, okay. I haven't really watched Xros Wars yet, so I was unaware of that.

Well there was like a 4 year gap, so I think a lot of more causal fans such as myself thought it was over after 4 season.

Yeah, pretty much all anime that's put on DVD contains the original Japanese track with English subtitles. However, I've never heard of Flatiron releasing anime before Digimon so that's probably got a lot to do with it.

Oh, you meant a literal gap and not one present within the show. Yeah, I think that had a lot to do with their decisions to try and change the face of Digimon by changing up the animation to attract an older audience, etc. Obviously it didn't work since they attempted to find a middle ground between the new style and the original style the very next season.

Okay, so they're probably just too new to this. To bad as enjoyable as the gag dub was, I think I'd rather get Adventure 01 with a more accurate translation, the story kind of works better that way.

That's not a biggy, I think an AMV already spoiled that for me. I was just unaware of when and where it happened, kind of thought it was in a movie or something.

Aw, so this is really the end of the series? Does that mean their also discontinuing the toy-line it was based on?

You know, it holds up pretty well. With the help of nostalgia, you can just let a lot of the dumb dubbing decisions go and enjoy the series. Not that I don't agree about how it would have be nice to have the actual Japanese dialogue retained. But the DVD releases are very barebones; no special extras or anything.

Okay, I feel less bad!

At least right now, there are no plans for continuing the anime. I think it lost a lot of popularity after Frontier.

Yeah, I have no real issues with gag dubs like it they can be quite fun to watch, but seeing I'm more familiar with the original story, the German dub was pretty accurate from what I remember, I'd prefer getting the original story, if they had offered that along with the English dub that would have been great.

Okay so they might try it again. Yeah I kind of had trouble getting into the seasons after Frontier. Data-Squad was good but for some reason it wasn't quite the same as watching the other previous seasons. I really like how each season had it's own feel but the newer one weren't quite hitting the spot. Though I really want to give Xros Wars another chance.

The English dub is fine until you get to a serious moment and they make a food joke or something, lol.

Okay so they might try it again.
When I say that, I mean it's not like they're incapable of deciding to do another season or revive the series down the road. But for all intents and purposes the series is over right now.

I couldn't get into Data Squad, though I'll probably give it another shot.

I actually just watched it this year, and it was really, really aggravating. They'd forget important information that would be revealed to the cast collectively, sometimes within an episode, and then have the same dramatic revelation all over again. But it had its moments.

... wow that sounds really dumb. Especially for something that was supposed to be marketed to an audience our age, who would most definitely notice shit like that.

Pretty sure it's supposed to air on TV sometime this year. They just started dubbing it.

Yeah, it was weirdly infantile, with the exception of one of the character's subplots. It was very, very typical shonen fare.

This is the main reason I didn't like Data Squad, it was like reading a weekly shonen update.

They should have taken a note from Tamers, which managed to balance a dark plot while maintaining the childlike wonder Digimon always had.

Okay, so they're pretty much done with it, unless someone down the line has a good idea for the series' revival.

I think Tamers got a lot right and it's a shame Digimon never quite managed to do it again. I think all the show would really need is a creative person behind it like there was while they were making Tamers.

That more to do with Tamers being grace with the creator of Serial Experiment Lain.

Re: Digimon

^ this

I was never really interested in Tamers, because I loved Adventure 02 so much but then when I heard Chiaki J. Konaka wrote it I made a note that I had to see it

I re watched about half of 02 last summer but I never finished it

I really got to get around to it though so I can finally watch Tamers all the way through

Re: Digimon

For the record, Konaka didn't create Lain. Abe did. Not saying that Konaka didn't have a sizable role in the production, but he wasn't the creator.
