It's been said by Nomura that when both the body and heart are "freed" (by destroying the heartless and nobody), they reunite and the person once again becomes whole.

Did Organization XIII not know about this process? Did they assume that if their shell was killed, they would simply perish?

Perhaps if they did actually know, they were uncertain about whether or not their hearts were free. Either that or they were unwilling to (essentially) commit suicide, and creating Kingdom Hearts was the better alternative. I realize that Xemnas was manipulating the group for his own power-hungry ends, but surely as studiers of the heart they would have had some knowledge about the process.

Your thoughts?

The Soul's gotta be freed as well.

Chances are they didn't, because they showed no signs of knowing.

But even then, they likely wouldn't have. They wouldn't be the Org Members + Hearts, but rather their old selves, and there is a difference between that. If the Organization members got new Hearts, they'd be as powerful as they already are, and have Hearts and emotions and such. If they went back to their old selves, they'd all be as weak/strong as regular humans.

Who's to say that they wouldn't retain the power of their nobody and heartless, or that they didn't have equal or greater power when they were whole (they took on a lot of dark power?) People are theorizing that the new whole Xehanort (who is assumedly in KH3) is even more powerful than his other forms (it wouldn't make sense if he was just a weak scientist like we saw in KH2's flashback).

I mean, if they did know that, and the process would have led to their re-completion with powers and emotions, then they would have gone for it. So either they didn't know, or the recompletion by that means just led to re-humanising.

You're forgetting one big, huge reason as to why they wouldn't have went along with it.

Once the Heartless is beaten - you need to take down the Nobody.
They'd have no way of knowing when and if their Heartless were ever beaten by a Keyblade, and if they offed themselves first, their chances of being revived would severly lessen, going by Another Report.
Ironically, sending their own Hearts to Kingdom Hearts was a safer way for them to obtain hearts.

Also, I don't think any of them really want to kill themselves anyway. It just seems a bit wrong, right?

And if they killed themselves and Sora happens to pop by, killing a Heartless that happened to contain their heart, then it would go to Kingdom Hearts and they can scream for forever and a day and still not get it back.

I think that they were also wanting not actually going through the pain of another death (the first being when they lost their hearts) just to get back to where they were initially. Either way, they may not be able to find their way out from the darkness when they reformed.

As for the destruction of the heartless, Xion puts in a very good point in Days, saying how without the keyblade she swats them at one side and they form back in another place. Along those lines. Showing that there really is quite some difficulty in actually killing a heartless completely and releasing the heart.

Another point to consider is that the top six, at least, want to be given hearts without getting stuck with the "weakness" that comes along with being bound to one's heart. They might have thought that getting new hearts from Kingdom Hearts would allow them to do all the things they needed a heart for, without giving up any of their control.

I don't recall any second chances being mentioned. Regardless, I doubt that even if Xigbar'd have known about it, that he'd have bothered telling Roxas "oh don't worry, Axel just might come back as his Somebody!". Pointless, and Xigbar's not the type to give out hope like that.

WAit.... does that mean that if their hearts were in Kingdom Hearts then they could be complete in KH 3 ? Since the shell and the hearless are gone?

Go BUCKS!!! (there's you're hint!)
I thought about this too, but I guess they would have no real way of knowing that their heartless had been destroyed. Plus, wouldn't it have to have been slayen by a keyblade in order for the heart to be released? So if there were no heartless or nobodies in BBS, then it had to be either Mickey or Sora who could have destroyed them. Chances are they were already trying to come up with a plan to get Kingdom Hearts because of the slim chance that one of two people may have eliminated their heartless. And if they turned into nobodies all those years ago, then they wouldn't have had much of a choice but to try to get new hearts. Unless I'm wrong, and I may very well be, Mickey would have been the only keyblade wielder around at the time...

I doubt they're like Kairi, who could tell that the heartless following them in Hollow Bastion was Sora. Unless, you are somehow able to sense your heartless dieing. idk, but if they did know about this way of doing things they obviously didn't wanna act on it for some reason.

i bleieve the 6 apprentices knew. but there's also the possibility that they wanted to retain the recent conscious they have at the moment to the original conscious they had when they were.

so technically the conscious of the nobody would still exist even when gaining a heart.

if they destroyed themselves they would most liekly have no memories of being a nobody or lose the mind they had when they were an opening.

Everyone else wanted hearts from KH. Xemnas wanted power. They had different agendas. Doubtless if there were anyone alive after KH was formed Xemnas would just kill them anyway.
