Then what was the point of Sora sealing them? o.o The way I understood it was that sealing a keyhole protected the heart of the world from the Heartless.

Well I just read the Ansem Reports again, and it seems I'm wrong on that matter. The heartless can sense the whereabouts of the keyhole--they can't do much of anything until it's open. :p

The keyholes weren't sealed--closed, but not locked in other words. Ansem Report 5 made that evident to me.

He might've opened it, and that's what brought about the world's destruction

He did.

Zexion mentioned he did, at least.

Yeah, he did, didn't he, which is why I always found Kairi hitting DI to be even more redundant.
She was thrown off of RG so Xehanort could find the Keyblade Master, but eventually he made it there because of Riku, and not Kairi, XD

Actually, connecting/reconnecting the worlds never was an issue in KH1, precisely just like opening the paths was unrelated to the Keyholes in KH2.

I never said that it was an issue. That wasn't the point of him sealing them. I'm just saying that this was a side affect. With the keyholes sealed, the worlds were no longer connected. I'm pretty sure that they said this in the game. Why else would I recall it?

They said the worlds were blocked off before but with the entire ordeal breaking up, the paths were opened. As far as we know the reason for the paths appearing wasn't opening the Keyholes, it was BBS, going by the fact Mickey reached RG by Gummi Ship.
I doubt Xehanort single handedly opened all the paths in existence.
The worlds were still connected when the Keyholes were sealed, and they seemed to have still been connected in KH2 despite the paths at first being untravelable.
At no point in time during the games was a connection established between the paths and the Keyholes.

But then how come Sora could revisit worlds whose Keyholes he had sealed? After rescuing Kairi from Hollow Bastion, Sora and the gang return to Traverse Town, whose Keyhole they had sealed much earlier, so clearly locking the Keyhole doesn't disconnect the worlds.

We cannot know for sure IF Terra can seal a keyhole, because he doesn't have a keychain, which ,I suppose, show that one is a real keyblademaster. So I'm thinking that Terra can't or doesn't have a reason to close the DIs keyhole, because, as Zero Sora said, maybe Unbirth aren't after the doors to the Heart of the World.

Because Sora is a keyblade weilder. Many of the same laws that govern the regular civilians (population) don't amount to much with him.

The paths disappearing had to do with the universal disturbance of the Darkness in general, otherwise what you're saying is that inside KH1 itself we shouldn't have been able to reach a world once we locked its Keyhole.
That is obviously not what happened.
Also, rewinding a bit - A path is two directional. What good would it do to you to unlock one World's Heart when you needed to reach another World altogether? Think of it, if you would, of a Chain of Memories linking the Worlds instead of their Hearts being unlocked.

Hmm, maybe I should restate what I said.

The heartless cannot destroy a world if its keyhole is locked. So, if the keyhole had been locked, then Destiny Islands would have never been swallowed up.

Overrun by heartless, maybe. Destroyed by them, not so much.

Here in the forums with you! ;P
I was about to say that, Evan. But, yeah, you got the point. With the flashbacks of Sora's past, it showed the Keyhole. And, when Sora locked every Keyhole, they disappeared. That Keyhole was gaping open. Besides, if the Keyhole was locked then the heart of the world, (the darkness too) wouldn't be able to escape. It would be locked up. So, if the darkness flowed freely out of the heart of the world, then the Keyhole obviously wasn't locked. One thing though, the Keyhole showed itself to Riku but not Sora. Was this because Riku was supposed to be the only wielder of the Keyblade? I think so.

Do you think Terra was still alive when Sora was really young?

But then remember that Leon, Yuffie, and Aerith hopped on a Gummi Ship and traveled from Traverse Town (which had already had its Keyhole sealed) to Hollow Bastion. So clearly the worlds were still connected.

To save you the trouble, basically the heartless ate away at the worlds barriers, thus making the worlds communicable. However even with the door sealed in KH1, since the heartless still exist so do the cracks in the walls between worlds.

The locked keyholes only prevent the heartless from devouring the worlds heart.

I don't think Ven sealed it because the heartless destoryed the heart of the world, right? That's why the world dissapeared.

If that's true, then the keyhole had to have been sealed before. But this also raises the question about the other worlds. If Terra had sealed DI's keyhole, then why didn't he seal the others? Sora went and sealed all of the keyholes, which raises the question of, if Terra did seal them, then who unsealed them? But, if that's not the case, then why did Terra only seal DI?

Maybe to protect the chosen Keyblade weilder. So that he would be able to protect the other worlds or, save them from destruction.

Of course, this also would have to be inferred that Terra did seal DI's keyhole, and if he didn't do the others, why did he do that one?

I answerd this in the above answer.

No need to; there was no heartless.

Real keyblades seem to be connected to the realms, twilight, darkness, and light.

A keyblad is only from one of two realms. Light or Darkness. Which I find annoying, because earlier on there was supposedly a Keyblade for each realm. Light, Darkness, Twilight and Present. Then Nomura turns around and says "lol kayblad coms frm lite or darknis onlyz".
