Did it ever explain why Vanitas face....

Looks like Sora? Other than Ven - Roxas, I don't think I caught it.

Bet a bit of my soul that this has been asked already though.

When the Darkness was extracted from Ven to create Vanitas, Ven was left catatonic. He was able to connect his Heart with Sora's, which allowed him to properly come back, and because of this link, Vanitas' face became that of Sora's.

Reading that I think Vanitas would have looked pretty cool if it was riku but that wouldn't really make any sense
