There must be somebody on these forums who is as excited about this game as I.

For the uninformed, Dead Space is an all new sci-fi survival horror game from EA, putting you in the role of an engineer, Isaac Clarke, who gets caught up in a very intense situation that involves an alien takeover of a ship known as the USG Ishimura. What makes it different from any other alien story? Enough so much as it has its own six part prequel comic and animated movie.

Oh, and it's probably the most gory and scariest game out there.

Oh yeah. Looks like fun.
However, the way they made the game is... disturbing.

They researched into Dead bodies from car crashes to give them more ideas.

Looks boring to me. Looks like like the bastard child of Bioshock and Doom 3.

Hah, they also researched how things work in zero gravity, including how much severed body parts would weigh. Seriously, you can have every piece of yourself cut off in Dead Space.

Are you going to get the game? They've got exclusive space suits as downloadable content for anyone who gets the game within the first two weeks of its release. They're not just for show either, as they give you more endurance and inventory space.

The blue masked obsidian one on the left is for PS3 owners, while the lime green and white is for Xbox360 owners.

There's also a red themed suit, but it was for people who pre-ordered.

I love how they designed them.

Looks boring to me. Looks like like the bastard child of Bioshock and Doom 3.

Rent it, I say! D:<

Or like, check out the trailer and animated comics.

I did, and it looks boring. I'm not going to spend my time on a game that doesn't interest me. Therefore, renting it, is out of the picture.

I'm very interested in this game.Been following the trailers lately and I like the direction EA is taking this game into. I'm kinda scared though haha. I mean I freaked out playing the demo from Bioshock on my PS3 in broad daylight. I'd probably shit bricks if I played this at night...

Anybody got link to pics or videos?

Trailer

Animated Comic Issue #1

I recommend you watch all six parts of the animated comic before playing the game.

Still, I may rent it. . .

Wouldn't renting it really soon, give you the download?

The PS3 suit is available for anyone to download. Just sign in to the PlayStation Store and search for Dead Space. But if you own an Xbox360, then I don't know.

This game really looks like a rip-off of Bioshock, just in space. No buy for me, granted I may rent this to see what up with this game but overall it doesn't give me that special feeling that games like Bioshock or Doom give me.

Having replayed Bioshock in the last few weeks, I can say that it looks little to NOTHING like Bioshock. They're both horror-esk games, but that's about it.

They say this game is supposed to be super scary.

Looks pretty gay to me. Just not my type of game I guess.

Exactly! Dead Space isn't a rip off of anything.

Well, if you don't find it interesting, I'd like to know what is.

You're all so quick to judge. Do some god damn research before you judge so idotically. Hey, and, I don't know, maybe you should..play the game?

And I assure you, there's nothing "gay" about this game. It's a badass shooter, and it has the potential to become a great franchise.

This game is like Bioshock. I mean it has these stupid vending machines that you can buy stuff like ammo and such. Okay what's that doing on Mining Ship? Straight out of Bioshock, at least Bioshock had a good reason for it being there (the civil war between Andrew Ryan and the riches, and atlas the socialist), and it has that same Bioshock-esqe look to it. YOu see I'm not the only one who thinks this. Multiple other reviwers have mentioned how it "BORROWS" alot of elements from various games (ie: REV4 Behind the shoulder combat, DOOM 3 monster theme, Bioshocks vending machines)

...Which were featured in survival horrors far preceding Bioshock. Durr. They're not vending machines, either, actually. They're just supply depos for the workers on the ship

If you actually would play the game, you'd know this. Dead Space is set on a planet cracker, a mining ship that's used to harvest foreign worlds so the earth can stockpile further resources to fuel the growing populace. Also, Atlas really wasn't a socialist. Uhhh, at all. He was more of a capitalist. Ryan was straight up objectivist though, ripped right from Atlas Shrugged.

and it has that same Bioshock-esqe look to it. YOu see I'm not the only one who thinks this. Multiple other reviwers have mentioned how it "BORROWS" alot of elements from various games (ie: REV4 Behind the shoulder combat, DOOM 3 monster theme, Bioshocks vending machines)

So RE4 was the first game to use over the shoulder? Doom was the first to feature monsters? Bioshock was the first to have shops? Dead Space borrows a lot of ideas from movies and games, but the sum is greater than the parts and the final result is fantastic. And if we're gonna talk about taking ideas, let's discuss how much Bioshock 'steals' from Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, shall we?

But anyways, while I do prefer Bioshock over Dead Space, the latter does quite a few things better than the former, namely the horror aspect. While Bioshock is eerie and occasionally frightening, Dead Space is constantly horrifying. After walking out into a void, for example, your sound will cut out (no sound in space, of course). I dare you to not shit bricks when out in one of these voids you turn around to find a necromorph, screaming in total silence directly behind you. Fucking horrifying mang :C Oh, and you're not gonna find any fag cloning tubes to bring you back to life every ten feet and you're sure as shit not gonna be able to pause to change up your guns. Once your start the game, you really don't get a break. Ever.

I also find Dead Space to be a more immersive experience, just from the number of ways you can approach the game. Aside from the game itself, there's the online viral marketing game (which is brilliant, by the way), the comics, the animated prequel or whatever, and all of them work together to form an unbelievably cohesive, intriguing story. There's no angle of the assault on the Ishimura that's left unexplored. You fell more like you're on the ship more than you ever felt you were down in Rapture.

While Bioshock was a more cinematic experience and undoubtedly featured a better story overall, Dead Space is still definitely worthy of plenty of attention and praise. Shit is tight, and definitely worth at least a rent.

Thank you.

Games borrow from games. Movies borrow from games. EVERYONE borrows from EVERYONE. It's rare to see something unique, and when you do, you turn your nose up and walk over to the nearest Halo copy and buy that instead.

Wouldn't you get a break if you opened the Guide?
