Converting .flv to .avi, .mpeg, etc

I just recently downloaded a few videos off of YouTube but all the videos come in a format called .flv. Problem is, I don't know how to convert it into other video formats such as .avi and others that would work for Windows Media Player. Anyone know how to convert it?

I do not know quite how to do that, but personally use a program called vdownloader (search for it using google). It is a free program that downloads the youtube videos and as it downloads converts it into avi (and a few other formats). .avi files can also play in Windows Media Player if that is what you wish to use. I hope that helps some.

There's a program I use called SUPER. It gets the job done.

I use divx. Never had any problems viewing files or creating amvs on windows movie maker, so you can even use the windows programs.
