It was probably an alien spaceship that was diverted thanks to the efforts of a time-lord in a blue police box.

It made an Earth-sized hole. Keep in mind, that that struck gas and liquid, not mostly solid and a bit of liquid like on Earth.

Nowhere in particular.
Wow this is something to really think about. Like Jupiter is only two planets away from us right; you got mars, then Jupiter, so if this comet was that close to us, its only a matter of time when we come to an end, and a meteor or comet the size of the earth comes crashing down on us. However, the real question would be; what would really happen to us if that meteor hit, would we die, or would someone actually survive?

It's two planets away from us, yes, but the number means nothing. The distance from Earth to Jupiter, when they are at their closest possible distance, is still 588,475,899 kilometres away from each other. As Donna said, a meteor half to a fifth the size of Earth would be sufficient to destroy it. One maybe a thirtieth would be enough to render the nature surface uninhabitable. And the hole made by the meteor in Jupiter was the size of Earth, the actual meteor could have been a lot smaller.
