In this live-action re-imagining of the classic fairy tale, The Prince is set for a politically arranged marriage. But the evil plan is threatened when he meets Cinderella. It will also reveal more of Cinderella's backstory. The Fairy Godmother will also play a larger role by starting as a beggar who keeps her eye on Cinderella before revealing herself as the magical being she is.

  • Lily James as Cinderella
  • Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine
  • Richard Madden as Prince Charming
  • Holliday Grainger as Anastasia Tremaine
  • Sophie McShera as Drizella Tremaine
  • Helena Bonham Carter as Fairy Godmother
  • Stellan Skarsgård as The Grand Duke

Re: Cinderella (2015)

I wonder how heavily it will borrow from the animated classic.

I really am interested in these live action remakes. I'd heard about this one for some time. I still wish Emma Watson was the titular character, physically she fits the bill too. Not seen any of Lily James's acting, so here's hoping for the best.

I forget if it was the director for Maleficent or this film, but he is really really excited about doing this film and wishes to treat it with respect. He wants scenes from the earlier film to be in this film, and for those to be done perfectly.

Emma Watson? Last I heard she was the lead character in a live-remake of Beauty and the Beast, but I don't think Disney ever announced that.
As far as I know, Lily James(heh, harry potter) has acted on Downton Abbey

Re: Cinderella (2015)

Part of me wanted Tim Burton to be in on this. It was my initial thought when I saw that Helena Bonham Carter was in the cast, but whatever. Hopefully this'll be good.

Re: Cinderella (2015)

At least there's no Kristen Stewart this time.

The director is pretty keen on making this perfect though.
Branagh is concerned with getting the iconic scenes right — from the transformation of the pumpkin into the elaborate carriage, to Cinderella’s entrance into the ballroom, to the moment when she realizes the slipper does, in fact, fit. If Branagh’s excitement is any indication, this newest take on the girl who loses her slipper might just be a new classic after all.

Re: Cinderella (2015)

Sounds like a solid cast and solid concept.

So no one has learned a lesson from the Snow White year.

Well, Snow White wasn't made by Disney so there is that...Then again even Disney's name doesn't carry the same weight as it used to.

Disney can produce shit just like any company. I am just no fan of this current trend of re-imagining fairy tales. Thus far, pretty terrible output. At least with the Maleficent movie is taking a different approach and seeing the fairy tale from another's perspective. If they make it exact to the animated version, then by gods someone knew what people were expecting and actually did it. But I swear, if they put another bloody sword in Cinderella's hand this time, I am just done with this generation.

I doubt she will wield a sword here.

There's still potential for this to be good.

I like the idea of FG maybe being a beggar at the start.

Still, Disney is essentially remaking one of their biggest classics. I wonder how the original film will be affected, with little girls being a prime demo for it and kids that age always focusing on whatever's new.

Wait, "Branagh"? As in Kenneth Branagh? If he's attached, most of my doubt is wavered!

Re: Cinderella (2015)

Sounds interesting, I hope it borrows more than a bit from the classic.

Re: Cinderella (2015)

Cinderella is one of my favorite classic Disney films, so I hope they do it justice! The director seems very excited about this project, so hopefully his enthusiasm will make for a great remake.

Dat horse. Could star in the titular role. How pretty.

There's talk of cleavage and whatnot. Still on the fence about this. Ever After will be an extremely hard live-action rendition to top. The script in that movie is amazing.

If anything has me stoked for this though, it's Cate Blanchett.

Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine? I have a hard time imagining that. Not to say that I'm not excited by it, though, I'm actually intrigued by this choice.

Oh, intriguing! Call me interested, and the casting is pretty solid. Nice choice on director too. Hopefully it won't be darkified like others have been. I wonder if the mice will be in it?

CGI mice incoming.

I didn't notice this earlier:

"Helena Bonham Carter as Fairy Godmother"

Eeeeh... I'm not sure about this one, though...

Re: Cinderella (2015)

I hope the Prince is given some personality. Disney Princes of the golden age were so damn dull.

Yeah, she was originally cast. Personally think I would have loved that, but shit happens. [Source]

I'm sure it will largely deviate, but the director has stated he wants at least several moments to be faithful to the 1950 classic.
