I have a very close relationship with both my mother and my sister, and I have no romantic feelings whatsoever for either. You would do well to remember incest, even if consensual, is illegal in most countries.

...except that when you grow up in the same house with someone of the opposite sex your body is basically programmed to not be attracted to them

I was about to say this.

Family, which you see 24/7, and a friend you see only some of the time are two very different things.

If you're even nominally attractive, all of them have thought about having sex with you.
One of my closest male friends has told me outright that he thinks I'm hot, but he simply can't imagine me having sex. He likes his women fragile and submissive; we couldn't be further from each other's types if we tried. (This from a guy who's slept with over forty different women and has no qualms about telling me ALL the details of his exploits. He's certainly not lying to save my feelings.)

Apart from anything else, the easiest way to prove how ridiculous this question is is to consider bisexuals. Can they never have any platonic friends?

I am male, and heterosexual, three quarters of my friends are female, and only one of those friends I have feelings for above friendship.

So, yes, a male and a female can be just friends.

Unless of course you count the one friend whom I have feelings for, which are mostly mutual, in which case the answer would be no.

What it comes down to is that a male and a female can be "just friends" for a long duration of time. But in the blink of an eye, that can change.

So, there is no answer to this question.

Thank you.

Just because you find a person attractive and are emotionally close to them does not mean you automatically develop a romantic relationship with them.

What it says on the tin lol.

Yes, I believe a male and a female can just be friends and majority of my friends are guys and I am very close with them.

Is it impossible because sex will eventually get in the way?

D: What.

If it does come up which gender do you think will initiate that line of thinking first?

Er...I have no intention of thinking about having sex with my close friends. No. But I can't read my friends' minds, so I wouldn't know what they're actually thinking about. But I'm sure they would not think about that, really, reallyyy sure.

Can you still just be friends if attraction is present?

Yes, I believe so.

Or can both truly have a fun, no romantic strings attached, friendship? Just like you would with friends of the same gender or a sibling. If so how? What boundaries do you make sure are set so sex will not crop up ?

I treat a lot of my close male friends as brothers and have no romantic interest in them. I thought this was something normal...isn't it? I do not understand why sex has to come in.

According to her logic, only males want to fuck everything in sight. Females are somehow exempt from sexual tendencies.

Sex works in mysterious ways.
Besides I believe we have all thought about it at least once,

My answer: Terms such as "sex buddies" exist for a reason.

Not my point though. Girls and boys can be just friends because...just because. I mean, what would you think the result would be if social relationships forbid opposite sex friendships? Girls can only be friends with girls and guy can only be friends with guys? Come on, now. That almost gets rid of the point of breeding if the world was really gender split like that.

I believe you're thinking of the term Friends with Benefits.

Isn't that kind of the same thing in definition anyway? I just went with being more direct.

I dunno, I'd say there's a difference. A fcuk buddy is someone you only have sex with, a friend with benefits is a friend you have sex (but not a relationship) with.

Almost all of my friends in RL have been guys - And the majority of the people I talk to online are guys.

I'm not attracted to a single one.

End story.
