Narnia, of course
I'd have to say the Enchanted Forest Chronicles are good, but the best is the De Granville Triology (Blood Red Horse- Book #1, Green Jasper- Book #2) and I can't wait for the third book to come out in that series (I think it's Silver Blaze???)
And I can't wait for the third book of the Inheritance Triology (Rumors say its called Empire). :)

Anything by L.J. Smith

Laurell K Hamiltons earlier Anita Blake books were wonderful. She went down the land of smutcrap towards the end, but if you can wade through it, they're still very good books.

The Hobbit

Harry Potter

I can't believe none of you have mentioned any of the Darren Shan books.

Here's a link to the gist of what they're about:
http://www.darrenshan.com/vampires/reviews/01/amazonuk.html
That's Shan's main site, if you'd like to learn anthing more about him, it could probably be found there.

The Harry Potter series was my favorite by far, but then I read Darren Shan. There's really no other way to say it other than the Shan series BLOWS AWAY the Harry Potter series. Just read it, and you'll see what I mean.

Hasn't anyone else read the Shan series. Come on, back me up.

^I've read up to seven, and I think I had to read other books, then I forgot what was going on and so I haven't read any more. Maybe it was six..I dunno, I keep meaning to read them, but there's others in line. They're good books though if you like vampires. Shoot, who doesn't? XD

I forget if anyone's mentioned Cornelia Funke, the author of Inkspell. I'm currently reading The Dragon Rider. Her style is rather fun and she writes a lot of fantasy.

Omigosh. Read the "Pure Dead..." series. It's so good, not to mention hilarious.

If you're after something thought-provoking and immersive, I would definately reccomend Lord of the Flies. I was given it as my English assignment two years ago and I thought I was going to hate it, but it's actually one of the best books I have EVER read. It made me cry and everything. By the time the classwork reached chapter four I'd finished it. it was THAT good. A look into human nature's darkest side... and the most disturbing part is that it's about children

Well I don't know about book suggestions but if you want to read some good fanfics you can go to fanfiction.net and find a lot there.

I go there all the time when I'm in the mood for reading.
