Well, for one thing, there really isn't any "best" gear until you get the good stuff at the end. Until then, it mostly depends on your "category", e.g. magic, combo, brute strength, aerial, etc.

for me i prefer playing as a brute and just killing some 1 in a hit

Find a midground then. That's what I did. I enen used my regular Keyblade for bout 60% of the game. I had a couple fires and a bunch of Heals and Potions. I never enev got to use the best keyblade that I owned xD

I thought it'd make the game too easy.

kinda wrong about that all key blades bascily are the same only thing that makes um strong is if your lvl 50 fighting a lvl 1

Champion Gear is more towards the end I'd say (like 3/4 through). At exactly 1/2 way I'd go with something like Phantom Gear (or +, or ++) because even though it says it puts an emphasis on magic, it still boosts your strength decently. Also, Prestige Gear, though most Strength-based gears are pretty horrible, this one does the job decently. I wouldn't bother with Duel Gear or Nimble Gear since they just don't do enough damage.

It's also important to remember that your panels should be messed with according to what mission you're going to be doing! Neverland, for example, is basically impossible without a Keyblade with good aerial combos (I found, anyway). My favourite gear for the majority of the game was Nimble Gear+; when it became available, I went for Rage Gear+. Actually, aerial combos in general are a massive asset, since a lot of Heartless in this game are fliers. Just my two cents.

Anyway, if you enjoy the brute force style and killing things in one hit, you're going to love Pandora Gear (strongest in the game, gives you ~OMEGA WEAPON~) near the end, haha. My jaw almost hit the floor the first time I tried it out and saw how powerful it was. Mmm, ultimate weapons.

I prefer Prestige Gear+, but can't remember if that's halfway in the game...

I agree to focus more on aerial weapons, since those strong, three to four-hit ground combo Gears don't help too much in the long run. Nimble Gear, as said before, was also a favorite of mine through the beginning half of the game, and I still consider it now. Rage Gear here I come.

Currently I use Crisis Gear+, and don't know whether to get Pandora or that one 6 link one. I mean, the latter has the obvious ability advantage, but I fear it'll just be another ground-heavy Champion Gear upgrade.
