So, I just got to thinking after seeing the Nostalgia Critic's review of Christmas with the Kranks.

Anyways, what are the worst and best holiday specials in theaters or on television that you have seen?

Everything on lifetime is garbage, as well as grandma got run over by a reindeer. I cannot think of any good ones as most old classics are pretty bad by today's standards.

Rudolph is pretty decent actually.

Nightmare before Christmas is still one of the best Christmas movies out there

I also enjoy watching some of the older stop motion christmas specials on abc family.

The skits were pretty annoying, but he was right on about the Star Wars special being a huge mess. I am glad that George Lucas didn't make another Christmas special for Star Wars.

By the way, does anyone remember those Christmas specials that Disney used to put out? One of them had Max Goof in it when he was a kid and another was A Christmas Carol starring Scrooge McDuck as Ebenzer Scrooge. I haven't seen that one in years.

How could this be considered bad???

Tbf, I do actually enjoy that special. Maybe it's the nostalgia. Maybe it's because it's so bad. Maybe it's because deep, deep down at the heart of the special, you can tell some heart went into it.

I remember that special. The Nostalgia Critic did a good thing on it. It was still better than Jingle All The Way with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Packing my bags to Mars.
I really love the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I hate the movie, even if Jim Carrey was a good actor.

I like the South Park Christmas specials too. I think that the major flaw that Christmas specials have is the trying to convert the Scrooge plotline/trope. Maybe there's a good reason why people feel so bah humbuggy on the holidays.

Oh, and the Futurama Christmas special with Santa terrorizing the town. XD And the voice of Santa is the same actor who played Santa in The Nightmare Before Christmas!

Favorite Holiday specials:

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated version)
Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas
Billy and Mandy Save Christmas (if only for Gilbert Gottfried as Santa)
Tokyo Godfathers
The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Every other Holiday special is kinda crap due to the over-reliance on the Hollywood Atheist trope.

On a slight tanget, has anyone thought of their own Holiday special?

Mine would involve a bit of space-time travel where Santa only exists on the imaginary plane of the universe (think of the imaginary number line from Algebra/Calculus), but he is actually a vat of DNA used to create clones sent throughout the universe on Christmas Eve. However, a defective Santa clone somehow manages to escape from the plant and the threat of deletion and make it to our plane of the universe. What follows is said defective clone attempting to play the Santa role, only to be turned down, arrested, and eventually disillusioned by the very thing he was created to do. Basically, a brutal deconstruction of the Santa mythos.

For my sanity, I'm just going to list movies.

Die Hard (fight me, it's at Christmas)
Home Alone
Nightmare Before Christmas
Scrooged
Tokyo Godfathers

I think that's it...

Die Hard 2 and Home Alone 2 are okay, but not great. Everything else is absolutely garbage.

Eh. Home alone 2 was a retread of the first with less practical effects and worse humor. Die hard 2 was just a bore imo.

Home Alone 2 is beautiful because it's literally the exact same movie but in a hotel in New York.

But... planes, chuchu. Planes.
