This is why I live by the philosophy of never meeting my idols (then again, I don't have any)
I felt bad for Quintin when he was replaced in FF7, but now I don't. It's probably good he got replaced.

I hate people who get into a position of authority of fame and abuse it to hell. I think fame and fortune often truly reveals how shitty some people are deep down. Even when I like a celebrity a little bit, I'm always so skeptical of them deep down.

Except Hikaru Utada and Yoko Shimomura. They're special.

Just the idea of anybody including Flynn going after people when they turn 18 reminds me of those sleazy websites that countdown the days until a teenage celebrity like Billie Elish turns 18. πŸ˜–

Celebrities aren't any more or less likely to be creeps than any other group of people. This is a recurring comment I'm seeing over time as if Hollywood or actors are just a specially awful group, but you people realize there are probably creeps in your friend circles, families, campuses, local communities, and so on, right? Everyone is capable of being a liar and abusing their power. They can be cops, teachers, judges, CEOs, whatever. The only difference is that celebrities are people you know by name and will recognize when they get talked about on the news, whereas the others pass you by because you have no personal connection to them.

Yes, I realize. This is what I mean when I say celebrity and fame really exposes people. They were creeps all along, but money and fame unfortunately attracts more victims to them. A normal creep in your friend group can maybe harass 5 girls. Quintin has probably harassed dozens. The only difference is people admire his voice.

I just feel especially bad for people who really look up to these celebrities thinking they're angels. Or maybe assuming they must be good people to reach that level. But they aren't. They're the same old weirdoes as Jim from down the street.

So, the lesson remains. Don't meet your idols. You'll just be disappointed.

Remember when Olaf's Japanese voice actor was arrested for possession of Coke?
I can't tell which situation is worse, they're both pretty bad to be honest.

I personally don't find the drug thing to be that bad tbh. I think vilifying drug users and criminalizing their actions is one of the many awful things we do in society when we should be seeking to help them through rehab and therapy. Of course there are actions that should be punished by the law like selling/giving drugs to minors, assault and violence when on drugs, but personal use I think should be handled completely differently.

Japan is not at all tolerant about drug use, though, so it is not surprising Pierre Taki was treated as harshly as he was.

I find that to be apples to this massive orange, though. This is definitely worse.

The voice of Sheldon from Mlaatr turning out to be a predator is the least surprising thing I’ve heard this year.

Yeah, ever since reading about this when the news broke I've not been able to look at Axel the same. Hearing that voice say those things... ugh. It's greatly upsetting consdering he's a character that hangs around a couple of kids and looks after them, I can't look at it the same anymore and I hate it. I've been the subject of harrassment multiple times in my life and it ain't fun, I can't imagine how much worse it would have felt had it been harrasshment from a voice actor or figure I looked up to. I really hope they fire him and recast him. Get the guy voicing Reno in FF7R, really pour some salt into Flynn's wound.

Canada.

I remember hearing about this (I think it was even on this forum), but since I don't think anything was posted, I forgot all about it. Seeing this though, is a completely different story.

I remember there was actually a discussion about his politics in the General Discussion forum. The defense from what I remember was...just because he follows someone doesn't mean he supports them... lol

And I really hope that after everything that 2020's shown us, nobody really uses that defense any more. Sure, people are entitled to their own political ideologies and whatnot, but when one side is clearly endorsing racism, ignorance and hatred... Fuck that. Why would you follow Conservative/MAGA Twitter accounts if you don't support them? Especially when that's all they post?? People are strange.

The only reason he didn't come out and say he's a MAGA supporter is because most of his fans are in the 18-30 range and are more liberal in nature. Being a MAGA VA in this climate would be career suicide, so there's probably many that support it in secret. Flynn is dumb though because all people had to do was look at his Likes or Following tabs and come to their own conclusions.

And see, that's exactly why when complimenting people, you just stick to something like "really great cosplay!" and whatnot if your opinion is requested, because saying things like "hot" is always going to put you at risk of getting in trouble. The optics of the situation doesn't look good at all.

If I recall correctly he was acting unprofessionally about being replaced as Reno, linking to petitions to get them to rehire him.

To put this in perspective if you got child porn you just get a slap on the wrist fine, but if you are even so much as accused of using drugs your career is over.

Before FF7R released, I felt bad for him being replaced as Reno. I was also too blind to see how him sharing petitions for him to be Reno again was unprofessional, blind about a lot of his past behavior. I did end up enjoying the new voices for FF7R so I wasn't upset about him being replaced anymore. Now I'm absolutely thankful he was replaced, and hope the same thing happens with Axel. That's all I can honestly say at the moment, I'm just still disgusted by this.

People, like myself, follow social media accounts of people they don't necessarily support to keep updated on what's happening on both sides of the story. I wanna know why people support so-and-so.

But yeah, Quinton Flynn is probably MAGA lmao I don't like him please replace him ASAP

In that case, is he also following people with the opposite opinion?

If not, there’s your answer.

I always try to judge people more for their actions rather than their views. If Quinton wasn't a creep, I doubt anybody would care that he follows right-leaning twitter accounts.

I have no qualms against judging and disliking people based on their views. There are people who do care about that stuff because they don't want to support people who don't support them, and it's their right to. However, regardless of their views, whether someone should face consequences or legal action should be based entirely on their actions. I know people are currently upset about some VAs who engage with certain political views, and while they can totally feel that way, it's no grounds for having these people lose their jobs.

You know by analyzing all these tweets,
yet the situation itself does not look as serious as in the case of Johnny Depp, where it was about violence and beating.
To deprive a career just for stupid behavior? Well, I do not know.
Unless, of course, the story with herpes turns out to be true. (Then this is much more serious) The maximum that he needs to do this is to "threaten his finger" for this, what if his career and his role are dear to him (And I am sure his career and his role are dear no matter how person he is, he definitely loves his job and is very talented.) then he definitely should not have romance with unfamiliar women and thus break their hearts.
In short, both sides must learn a lesson.
In his case, let him think twenty times before writing to unfamiliar girls and flirting with them, and in their case, do not be so naive and don’t think that 56-year-old men are your guys, and in any case do not go under them. No matter how popular and famous he is, you are already adults (and they are already adults) and must restrain your fan feelings.
Therefore, I think for Quinton Flynn it is not so much a loss of his career as a loss of the respect of many of his fans.
So Johnny Depp, even after this whole accusation case, has a lot of loyal fans ready to support him in these difficult days for him, while VA Axel will be despised by many for a long time.
