Armor from the special trailer.

While watching the trailer and looking at the new armor that was at the end of the trailer, the design on the helmet looks just like the emblem on rikus back. I think its his armor that he might recieve at the end of the game. Who knows its just a thought I had while watching the special trailer.

That is the Armour Ventus wore in Birth by Sleep with a Dream Eater symbol on it.
Why it's there, only Nomura knows.

Yep, and if one looks closely the symbols also differ.

The emblem on Riku's back is the Spirit-symbol of the "good" Dream Eaters,
while that black Ventus-armor has the Nightmare-emblem of the "evil" Dream Eaters.

There have been several theories about that thing already from it being a physical manifestation of Ventus's pain, it being the armored form of that red-eyed thing from later in the trailer or even Vanitas's new armor.

Alas, none of us knows anything with real substance about this armor yet. Neither why it's there and how it affects the story and characters.

I wonder if there is more to that bonus boss in BBS with Vantias Remnant than I thought. Both him and that Ventus armor have the same style with a mark on helmet. We know that Vanitas was the source of the Unverse, so i wonder if somehow Ven is the source of the Nightmares.

Or that Ventus armor could be a non-canon bonus boss.

We'll see if Vanitas's Remnant has any story-relevance although I strongly doubt it.
While the style may be similar, I doubt that Ventus is the source of the nightmare dream eaters. As far as we know these are the Realm of Sleep's equivalent to the Heartless in the Realms of Darkness and Light, and no single person is the source of the Heartless.

Since when do they show non-canon bonus bosses that blatantly in trailers? Not to mention Ventus in his normal armor is shown lying on Sora's awakening station immediately after the black nightmare armor. That gives more hints towards it having story relevance.

Come to think of it, does anyone know how Dream Eaters are created, both good and bad? Maybe the symbol and Riku's back was just for decoration. The symbol and Ven's armor, maybe he'll show up as
a special boss for Sora and he'll explain everything to him after his defeat.

I think it has something to do with "births by sleep" but that's just a theory not based on a whole lot outside them being in sleeping worlds, and Ansem's... "So many are still waiting for their new beginning. Their birth by sleep. Even me. And even you."... I'm thinking if you "die" in the sleeping worlds then you have a birth by sleep which = reincarnation

Honestly, the armored Ventus may not even be essential to this game's story. For all we know, it could just be another secret boss.

As Ventus lying down in his normal armor is shown directly afterwards I tend to stick with my assumption that it has something to do with his pain.

That armor is shown immediately after the Mysterious Boy extends his hand to Sora, so I'd think it has something of a story relevance.
Did they show Vanitas' remnant in the BBS trailers prominently? Because that's the only parallel I could see why one would assume it is only a secret boss.
