In an effort to revive the lovely Intelligent Discussion section that I love so much, and in light of the debate last night...

If you absolutely had to vote for someone today, who would you vote for?

I'm really interested in knowing who people support and why. I want to see both Democrats and Republicans responding to this, since we live in a two party system and the poor third party supporters like me will not win for a long time, if ever. lol And, of course, some of the most interesting input I get on American politics is from people who don't live in America, so PLEASE respond, outsiders. :D

I saw a great candidate this time. He has a lot of supporters, but he's still not in the lead. He's totally not politics-as-usual. He's fierce. He seems immensely intelligent. He knows where the true problems in the USA lie. However, he doesn't fit the bill, physically. He's an older, white man. He's got the typical American president look, which is totally not in vogue anymore. The only minority he can claim is being Jewish. He's Bernie Sanders.

The crowd favorite at this time seems to be Hillary. She used to be my favorite, but I've stepped back and really thought about it. Do I want a female president? Absolutely. Is that why I liked Hillary? Mostly, yes. Will she be memorable? Is she really the best choice for the first-ever female president? I don't think I can say that. She's politics-as-usual. She's doing everything she should be doing to get votes. She's hitting up all the minorities (and I say this as a gay person). She's trying to make herself look great. She's changed a lot of her stances in just a few years. Do I trust her? I don't think so. She seems to have mainly stayed with her husband to stay in politics. Do I think she'll really change this country? Not really. I want a female president who we will look back on and think, "Wow. So that's what a woman can do in leadership. Look at all the great things she's done for this country." I don't see that in Hillary. I think a lot of people are going for her just because she's the female candidate and she's likable. But she doesn't have Bernie's fire. Elizabeth Warren has Bernie's fire. She would make an AMAZING president. She does not want to run. This makes me sad.

I would love to hear opinions of Trump, especially from conservatives. I've seen a lot of backlash towards him, but also a lot of praise. It's like the more of a jerk he becomes, the more people love him. He's in the lead in some areas of the country, even on the East Coast. There are a few candidates who, even though they totally do not align with me politically, seem to be very nice people. Why are people praising the ass? I am absolutely bewildered. Explain.

Now, I must check out what Bill Maher has to say about the debate last night. I crave his humor.

Re: 2016 Presidential Candidates

A lot of crazies running for the Republican party as usual. The only sane one is Rand Paul, even though I disagree with him on many things. As for the democrats, Hillary is basically a female Obama - corporatist to the bone. Still better than the Republican candidates though. But the dream ticket would be Sanders/Warren. However, the most important thing right now would be to get money out of politics. It amazes me that you've legalised bribery (Citizens United) and people seem to either accept it or they just don't care.

Trump 2016 or Carson.

Hilary couldn't satisfy her husband, what's going to make everyone think she's going to satisfy America? Obama is a commie.

Bernie Sanders I will vouch for. I don't feel comfortable trusting Hilary with anything. Maybe I'm just bias because I despise the Clinton administration, but it is what it is.

I heard a couple of sensible answers from the Rebubs, but that's about the extent to what I agree with it. Their stances as a a whole and their inability to speak on other issues I find important, income inequality, police brutality, just to name a couple, shows me that they don't have a lot of social issues in mind as the potential commander in chief.

I'm super against money in politics. That's part of the problem with how far we've let capitalism get away with things. There is no cap to capitalism. You can get so rich that you just start buying other people's companies and ideas. You also can buy out politicians. I've seen a lot of big checks go to Hillary, but it doesn't look like Bernie's accepted anything that high. That's another reason that I like him.

Anyway, a lot of us are trying to tackle the use of money in politics, but like you said, a lot of us also don't care.

Trump 2016 or Carson.

Please explain your approval of Trump for me. Although your other comments in that post seem to show that you wouldn't mind his bluntness at all. :p

He has BALLS; doesn't mind speaking his mind even if he does sound arrogant. He doesn't deal with political correctness which is something that most of this country needs to wake up from. The guy has 10 BILLION dollars and he has been BANKRUPT 3 freakin' times! That guy knows how realtor business works. He bombed the media outlets! He's no FOOL.

This should give you lighter idea about the man:

Wow. So you're actually serious? You probably couldn't explain what communism is to save your life. Obama is centre-right. American politics in general are quite far to the right compared to other Western countries.

Speaking your mind without a filter and no fear of making an ass of yourself is actually a huge con in regards to a PRESIDENT. The novelty of it would likely wear off after he quickly runs your country into the ground.

I agree.

It's also a con to being a businessman, since you're likely to lose quite a lot of customers. You're not supposed to bring politics into a business, so I guess he's not as great as he thinks he is at Business 101.

Imagine Trump on foreign politics. Actually, you don't have to. He's basically said he thinks that diplomacy is a waste of time. Not to mention his racist views on Mexicans!

And who isn't in our age of time? You got to have it. You got to be the biggest dog in yard if not you'll end up having Vladimir Putin going his way. The country is running down to the ground and our debt is still inflating.

Not serious, I actually added some spice into that. Although there are socialist views from our current president which is something I hope does not widen the gap as the years go by. We are living in an age where the media is really in control and corporate giants.

And about Communism, I may not educate you about it but I could describe it to you. I've lost plenty of family members thanks to it.

You have to be willing to make big decisions and not pussyfoot around, which I don't doubt he could do. But you also need some understanding of the concept of tact and not just saying every stupid thing that comes to your mind because it creates enemies.

Trump has an abhorent view of women and immigrants. Have you not heard the bullshit he says?

Nothing wrong with a little socialism. It seems very common in the US to not only lump it together with communism but also to think it's some kind evil ideology like Nazism.

But you really do have to overturn Citizens United asap. Most American politicians are bought by giant corporations. It's amazing how oil companies get politicians to fool people into thinking climate change is a hoax and even other politicians thinking it is because "God knows what he's doing" or other utterly stupid arguments like "it snowed a lot here last winter, so global warming isn't real". Not to mention everyone on NRA's payroll.

And seriously, I really hope you do not support Trump's incredibly offensive and racist views. He even doubled down on the claim that Mexico is "sending" its worst people to the US during last night's debate. Believe me, if Trump become president the US will become even less popular internationally than during the Bush administration.

I haven't heard much about his women stance. That's definitely out of hand. Although his answer from the Republican Debate last night towards Rosie O'Donell was priceless and supposedly she attacked first from something that happened some years ago. Talk about a chalk from the past. And his immigration comments that was tumultous all over the country that wasn't well received. I know for a fact he didn't generalize EVERY Mexican; its true what he meant. There are hard working immigrants that are here to work and earn a future. Not just from Latin America but all over the world. Just few days ago, Coast Guards I believe it was found a submarine with 6. million dollars of drug trafficking. Not that long ago we also had what transpired at the Boston Marathon. If we don't take what we already have than what's in it for our next generational seeds? Unfortunately, I lost a friend due to his status. He was top ten of my class in High School and already was going to graduate from the Honors program was our local community college. I can go on with different reasons by against or for of what's these immigration all about. By the way, hope you're not taking this the wrong way. I understand that Trump isn't politically level ready. That type of character though is something this country has needed since Ronald Reagan took the seat. That arrogrant attitude is just part of his ego; not something the position of PRESIDENT should have obviously. It comes to show though, he won't back down from a fight. Going to pause since my mind is rambling already.

If Donald is out of the equation. I really like some of the Republican nominees and the only one I like from the Democrats is Sanders.
