"What's your name...?"
"...I'm not supposed to be here...."
"It's not your fault.... You can't blame yourself."
"Save your tears, 'cause I'll come back...."
//Dawning Darkness\\
Bright sunlight poked and prodded at my clenched eyelids irritatingly, desperately begging them to open, and I unwillingly relented, my dark chocolate orbs minutely studying the crashing seashore before me, not recognizing the misty spray that fluttered past me. ((Before you ask, YES! That was ONE sentence. =D)) The lucid rays of light happily danced upon the water's surface as the laid-back, reflective waves lazily lolled back and forth across the loamy sand. Blinking in confusion as to my current location, I allowed the soft sea breezes to caress my dark auburn locks while I gazed at the shimmering sea before me.
The calm was abruptly shattered by a steadily rising wave, and my eyes widened in surprise and fear at its suddenness. Far from dauntless, I slowly crept away from the shore, but a figure in the water caused me to freeze in my tracks. I opened my mouth to cry out to them, to warn them of the wave, but no words escaped my lips as I moved them. The figure turned, and smiled breifly at me. I could see it was a teenage boy dressed in an odd fashion, spiky golden hair shining in the sunlight, and sapphire eyes to lose myself in. In the moments that followed, his image flickered, revealing that same boy in a long black trenchcoat, and his right eye a deep chocolate brown instead of the bright cerulean of the sea surrounding us.
As suddenly as he had appeared, emersed the mirror-like waters, the boy was gone, and I suddenly blinked, realizing I had come much closer to the ocean while staring in admiration at the blonde-haired boy. I gasped as the wave violently came crashing down upon me, and I was thrust into warm waters, getting thrown about by the dangerous undercurrents. Salty seawater gushed down my throat when I gasped, and I choked horribly, still underwater. I struggled to get to the surface, but the waters pulled me deeper, and I reluctantly allowed to be towed through the waters, watching the bubbles I left behind with half-open eyes.
Glimpsing illistrious color in this opaque darkness, I craned my neck in its direction as I descended, trying to find the color's origin. The shimmering apparently came from this enormous cylindrical pillar, that had seemingly sprouted up out of nowhere in the middle of this vast darkness. It was made of glistening stained glass, holding an image in its depths. I squinted my eyes, attempting to make out the picture enclosed in the colorful glass, and my gaze softened at the pure sadness emitting from the image while my dark chocolate eyes laid upon it.
In the center, a girl who looks far too much like myself kneels down, weeping, eyes cast down. But... why? Behind the girl was that blonde boy from before, carefully wrapping his arms about her shoulders, trying to comfort her, but.... There was something wrong with him.... He was transparent.... As if he wasn't really there. A star-shaped, sun-kissed fruit is above the two, half-eaten and casting an interplay of reds, oranges, and yellows upon the world below.
Twilight...?
As I drifted ever-closer to the stained glass platform, my thoughts swiftly flowed into one another, creating a rapid river of confusion, my musings overlapping one another and spilling over the edges of what was left of my mentality. I tried locking on and focusing only on one single thought, but by then my feet had unceremoniously touched the ground.
Cautiously stepping across the stained glass, I half-waited for a curtain of pure white doves to rise up off the surface, but frowned slightly in disappointment when this did not occur.
Hey, I can have an Awakening dream if I want to.
Blinking at this random thought, on a sudden impulse, I lifted my hand and rapidly waved it around before me, watching for air-filled bubbles to ascend back to where the ocean met the sky.
Nope, no bubbles.
Taking a chance, I sucked in a breath of this apparent oxygen, and the air willingly filled my lungs with life. Being sure of my ability to breathe made me far more intrepid than before, and I bravely stepped towards the center of the glass until a voice abruptly echoed in my mind, making me jump in surprise. All my thoughts suddenly froze in mid-comprehension, almost out of respect for this new voice.
So much to do, so little time...
My head snapped up and in all directions, looking for the origin of the words appearing in my mind's eye, and finding none.
'Who are you?' I tried to ask, but, as before, no words left my lips.
The words chose to ignore me, apparently, Take your time.
If I have so much to do, wouldn't you want me to just get it done now? Make up your mind.
Don't be afraid.
'Who said I was afraid?' I attempted to snap, taking this as a great insult, but this ... place seemed to be locked in eternal silence, not allowing me or anything else to create sound.
Darkness looms on the horizon, and you must stop it.
...How can darkness loom on the horizon? Isn't it, like, full of light or something? And what's everyone got against darkness? It makes bishies smexy....
Now step forward. Can you do it?
Do I look like a baby to you?
Starting to get somewhat annoyed with this voice's pointless babble, I decided if I listened to it, I could wake up and attempt not do anything Kingdom Hearts-related for a while. Taking merely one small step, I tried to hide the deepening scowl on my face, failing miserably. I guess having my arms folded firmly across my chest didn't help in my cause either. Now completely centered on the stained glass, three flashes of light occured through the darkness, leaving the same number of weapons in its wake.
Offensive. Defensive. Magic.
Power sleeps within you. If you give it form.... It will give you strength.
Choose well.
Oh, no pressure, then.
Cautiously stepping towards the levitating blade before me, I carefully reached out to grasp it, fingers wrapping around the goldenrod handle, and I gazed down at the small silhouette of Mickey's head, waiting for the words to reappear in my mind.
The power of the warrior.
Invincible courage.
A sword of terrible destruction.
Is this the power you seek?
Hey, I'm all for courage, but... I think I'll pass on the destructo sword.
Choose well.
Right, I'll do that.
Releasing my grip on the sword, it continued to levitate in the air, and I raised an amused eyebrow at it before approaching the floating, cobalt mage's staff.
The power of the mystic.
Inner strength.
A staff of wonder and ruin.
Is this the power you seek?
Magic.... Well, I've always wanted to control fire.... To burn things whenever I please. So... BEHOLD! You see before you the up-and-coming Mistress of Elements!
Beware.
Your path is set.
The staff abruptly disappeared from my hands, and I frowned slightly at my empty grip.
I might need to use that later! Gosh.
Now, what will give up in exchange?
Turning to rest my gaze on the two remaining weapons, the sword and the shield, I tilted my head to the side in deep thought, then, deciding, stepped back to the familar steel-edged blade.
The power of the warrior.
Invincible courage.
A sword of terrible destruction.
You give up this power?
Thanks for the reminder, and yes.
The sword was suddenly gone from my within my fingers, and I pouted slightly. I wanted to hold that thing a little longer...
You've chosen the power of the mystic.
You've given up the power of the warrior.
Is this the form you choose?
Aren't I the smart one, and sure. Hey, this is just a dream, right? So it doesn't matter. At all.
...Right?
REASSURE ME.
The stained glass beneath my Converse cracked dangerously, and my eyes widened in fright at the sudden breaking. After a moment of silence, I let out a long, inaudible sigh of relief, but my alleviation was short-lived. The platform abruptly shattered, sending me spiraling back into to darkness.
