Chapter 9: Battle for Hollow Bastion

Jess ran to the bedroom in the gummi ship, anxious to fall asleep. Today was a long day, and she wanted to get more than three hours of sleep. She entered a room with two bunk-beds in it; Sora and Goofy shared one while Jess and Goofy slept on the other. Knowing that the bottom bed was Goofy’s, Jess still jumped onto his and kicked off her black boots. Goofy and Donald were taking the night shift for controlling the ship so Sora and Jess could get some sleep. As Jess was starting to drift into deep slumber, Sora came into the room and sat on the bed across from her.

“Tired?” he laughed.

Jess nodded. “You’re not?”

“Not really,” Sora yawned. Jess laughed.

“You’re a horrible liar.”

Sora grinned. “So, are you still having those dreams?”

Jess shook her head. “They’re different. They’re of this place…there’s a meadow, an ocean, small villages, and a big castle. I know I’ve never been to this place before, but it seems so familiar. I just can’t think of what it’s called.”

“But, you’re not having dreams about that man, right?” Sora asked in a worried tone.

“He comes into my dreams every now and then, but not as much as Maleficent,” Jess said. Her expression changed from worried to upset. “Why would she kill my father? I don’t know him, and now I never will…”

Sora looked at her. How was he supposed to answer that?

Maleficent is an evil hag who will take away everything you would ever care for. There’s no stopping her. Oh, yeah. That’ll make things a whole lot better for her, Sora thought. He then rolled his eyes at his own thoughts.

“I don’t know…” Sora said. He looked at Jess, whose eyes were swelling with tears.

“I never really met him…”

Sora got up and went to her bed. He helped her sit up and hugged her. “Whatever her reason was, we’ll get her back. She won’t get away with this.”

“I know she won’t” Jess said confidantely, whipping away her tears. “I’ll avenge my father. She’s going to regret everything.”

Sora hugged her again and went back to his bed. Jess layed back down and started to slowly fall back asleep. Sora, however, couldn’t sleep. His mind was set on finding Maleficent and her apprentice; for some reason they were attacking Jess’s family. He wanted to find out why, and what importance Jess’s family holds. Just as he was about to fall asleep, Donald came in the room.

“We got a call from Leon. He says something’s going on back in Hollow Bastion. I told him we’d be there in the morning,” Donald said.

“Wonder what’s up?” Sora asked. He looked at Jess, who was awake and sitting up in her bed.

“Sounds important if he’s calling now,” she said wearily.

“Well then, we’d better make course for Hollow Bastion,” Goofy said.

It was sunrise in Hollow Bastion as Sora and the others landed their ship in town. They all ran to Merlin’s house and pounded on the door. Merlin answered, still half asleep as the others in the house all got up.

“Sora! What’s up?” Yuffie asked.

“We got a call from Leon. He said that something was up,” Sora said.

“Leon should be at the Bailey,” Cid said. “He usually goes there before sunrise every morning.”

“Thanks, Cid!” Jess said.

They all left to the Bailey to find Leon. Leon was sitting on the ledge of the wall when they approached him.

“About time,” he smirked.

“Sorry, Leon. What’s up?” Sora asked.

“Things have gotten pretty strange around here,” he started. “These...things started coming out of no where. They’ve been attacking citizens almost everyday and there have been sightings of those guys in black cloaks again.”

“The Organization!” Goofy said.

“Where are they?” Donald asked.

“The last report said that they were seen around the bottom of the cliff,” Leon said. “I went down there, but no one was there.”

“Someone is now!” Jess said, pointing to the top of the cliff. A man in black robes stood on the edge, looking down at thousands of heartless and strange white enemies.

“What are they?” Goofy asked.

“Those are the ones that attacked our citizens. It seems that whoever that man is controls them. He’s making a move! Let’s go!” Leon ran off towards the cliff after the man. Sora and the others chased after him with weapons in hand.

The man knew that they were on there way. He knew almost every one of their moves; he’s been studying them ever since their first visit to Hollow Bastion. The hooded man looked down to see Sora and the others running to the bottom of the cliff. With a wave of his hand, he ordered the heartless and the white enemies to attack.

Looking up at the top of the cliff, Sora saw that the mysterious man gave some sort of signal. He then looked ahead and saw that all of the heartless and white enemies were charging right at them, ready to attack. Sora wielded his Keyblade and turned to the others.

“Okay, that guy up there is obviously in control of the heartless…and whatever those things are,” Sora said, pointing to the white creatures. “We have to take them down first to get to him.”

He turned back to look at the top of the cliff to see the hooded man facing them. Looking back down at Jess and the others, Sora nodded his head, signaling that it was time to fight. He started to run towards the massive amount of heartless and strange creatures with the others close behind, thus starting the battle for Hollow Bastion.

The heartless were ruthless; Sora and the others were having trouble keeping up with how many of them there was. He was worried, though, how everyone else was handling the heartless. Leon, he knew, would be fine. Jess fought one-handed with her sword, and soon found another sword on the ground and fought with that one as well. It was hard at first to fight with two swords, but she soon got used to it. Donald and Goofy seemed to be managing okay. Donald used all of the powerful magic he knew, and Goofy was doing…whatever he normally did. About half the enemies were down now, so this wouldn’t take much longer.

After about ten more minutes of nonstop fighting, the heartless and white creatures were finally gone. Breathless, Jess looked up at the cliff and the hooded man was still standing on the edge of the cliff, watching the whole battle. A dark orb formed in front of him, and when it disappeared the man wielded a long sword. Jess looked closer and recognized the sword.

Oh god…no…she thought.

The man suddenly jumped off the cliff, sliding down on it and causing dust to form behind him. Landing on his feet, the man walked towards the group with his weapon in his hand. He stopped about ten feet from them and pointed his sword at Jess’s heart.

“Let’s try this one last time, shall we?” he asked.

Removing his hood, the blonde haired man smirked as he continued to stare at Jess. Even though she was terrified to death, she still kept strong and didn’t run. She stared back at the man, still wielding both of the swords she used to fight off the heartless.

“Who are you?” Jess asked.

“Moritz,” he laughed.

“Why do you want me gone? Why did you kill my father? Why?” she yelled.

“Maleficent told me to.”

“Always do what you’re told? You’re like an obedient dog!” Jess provoked.

But all Moritz did was laugh. Sora’s grip on his Keyblade tightened.

“If you want to know, why don’t I show you?” Moritz asked.

Sora was done listening to this guy’s blabbering. He ran towards the Moritz, but before he got any more near him, Moritz extended his arm towards him. Sora saw a bright flash and felt his body being thrown back towards the group. He heard Jess’s screams and realized he was screaming as well. Sora then felt his body hit the ground, and started to slowly pass out…

When he awoke, Sora saw that he was no longer in Hollow Bastion. The grass on the ground brushed against his face and a warm breeze blew by. As he sat up, Sora realized that he was in a meadow, with a beach about a few miles away, and in the distance a white castle stood in front of the sun. The sound of seagulls filled the air. Donald and Goofy were starting to come to, and Jess was still out on the ground. Sora ran to her and gently woke her up. Jess woke up and looked around and froze.

“What is it?” Goofy asked.

“This place…this is the place I dream about,” Jess said slowly.

A man was walking in the meadow a few feet away and saw them. Jess got up and ran to him.

“Excuse me, but what is this place?” Jess asked.

“This place, miss, is Hackettsville,” the man said warmly.

What’s coming up in Chapter 10: Hackettsville, a small, serine world with a beautiful ocean, nice people, and a magnificent castle. Jess’s home. But how is it here? Wasn’t it destroyed years ago by the darkness?

lol thanks guys

maybe i should clarify if i confused you guys im sorry. but Hachettsville is Jess's home world. its the world that was destroyed when she was only a kid and she ended up in Traverse Town, just as Sora did. but because she was so young, her memories faded. but now they ended up there, and she's confused because it was destroyed years ago. the dreams were foreshadowing her arrival. so now she's back but she doesnt know how or why.
