Chapter 14: Destiny Islands
“Your Majesty! Thank goodness you’re alright!” Goofy said as he ran over and picked up The King, swinging him in the air.
The King laughed and lowered his hood. “I heard the great news that Maleficent and the Organization is gone for good! Now all we need to focus on is Moritz.”
“But, sir, Moritz is gone also,” Sora said.
“Sora! It’s nice to see you as well! I hope you’re prepared to fight Moritz; we don’t have time to spare—’’ The King started.
“No no! He’s gone, Your Majesty,” Sora laughed.
The King stopped. “You all took care of him?”
“Well, for the most part we all did, but Jess finished him off,” Riku said.
King Mickey looked over to Jess, who had a slight smile on her face. He walked over to her and she bent down to his level.
“I’ve never been more proud of someone before. You’ve come a long way from the beginning of you’re new journey. Thank you,” the King said.
“I’m just glad he’s gone, Your Majesty. After what he’s done…” Jess’s voice trailed off.
There was a long pause.
“I know what he’s done, and its horrible to think about. You’re father was a terrific man; I’ve known him for a while,” the King said.
Jess looked up. “You knew him? What was he like?”
The King thought for a moment. “A truly wonderful and dedicated man. He loved his world very much and everyone in it. But after what happened years ago, with your disappearance, he hasn’t been home much. He always used to talk about you.”
Jess smiled. She looked up at Sora, who was smiling also. “What do we do now?”
“I dunno,” Sora laughed.
“Why don’t you go back to your world, Sora? Everyone’s waiting for you to get back,” the King said.
“How do they know about—’’ Kairi said, but was cut off.
“I might have told them,” the King said, smiling.
“Well then! Let’s go home!” Sora said.
“Let’s go back to Destiny Islands,” Riku said.
They all boarded the ship and Sora started up the ship and left The World That Never Was. About an hour later, Kairi looked out the window and ran to Sora.
“I can see it from here!” she said.
Sora let Riku take control over the ship while he walked over with Kairi to the window. He was so happy to see his home world safe from the darkness. Sora felt something wrap around his waist, and he saw Kairi’s arms hugging him. He held her hands and turned around, motioning her to go to the bedroom.
Kairi sat down on one of the beds, and Sora sat next to her.
“Sora, I wanted to tell you something. A while ago…I didn’t remember…you; I only remembered Riku. For some reason I just forgot you; your face, your voice…but then I heard your voice and I remembered everything. I feel so horrible about the whole thing, but I knew I had to tell you because I can’t hide things from you,” Kairi said.
“Kairi, I understand. Listen, I have something to tell you too. The reason you forgot, was because I forgot too. You see, I had this one journey in Castle Oblivion, and this girl named Namine erased my memories and replaced them with false ones; she was under the Organization’s control. But she replaced them with my true memories and destroyed the ones she made up, including her,” Sora said.
“How do you know this if you can’t remember?”
“I met someone named Roxas. He was part of the Organization, but he left. He is my Nobody.”
Kairi gasped quietly. “Nobody?”
“Yeah…and there’s more; Namine is your Nobody”
Kairi just stared at him. She was speechless.
“I have a Nobody?”
Sora nodded and hugged her. “But I promise, they’re good. They mean no harm to any of us.”
Kairi smiled and nodded. “Sora?”
“Hm?”
She leaned forward, getting closer to his face. Their lips were close to touching, but as soon as they were about to kiss, a knock came at the door.
“Sora!” It was Donald. “We’re about to land in Destiny Islands!”
“Okay!” Sora called out. He looked back at Kairi, still holding her hands.
Kairi stood up. “Come on, we’re almost home.”

They landed smoothly on the white sands of Destiny Islands. A whole crowd of people stood waiting for Sora, Riku, and Kairi to finally return home. Amongst them were Selphie, Tidus, and Wakka, old child-hood friends.
Sora emerged from the ship, followed by a huge uproar of welcomes and clapping from the people. He smiled and took Kairi’s hand, helping her out of the ship, followed by Riku, Jess, and the others. Selphie ran up to Kairi and hugged her, while Tidus and Wakka greeted Sora and Riku with handshakes.
“Nice to see ya’ alright there,” Wakka said.
“Riku! Man you are tall!” Tidus laughed.
Jess turned around to see all of the happy citizens waving to them and applausing. But she stopped and looked at a group of people smiling at her.
They all screamed.
Sora turned around hastily and relaxed when he saw Jess running to the group of people and hugged them all. She called him, Kairi, and Riku over.
“Guys, these are my other friends from Traverse Town. This is April, Marissa, Zeke, and Evan,” she said, pointing to each friend.
“Nice to meet you guys,” Sora said, shaking hands. Kairi and Riku greeted them as well.
“So we heard what happened, Jess. Everything okay?” Marissa said. She wore a yellow halter top with khaki colored capris and her brunette hair was pulled in a pony-tail.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine, thanks,” Jess smiled.
“We also heard you got shot?” Zeke said. Zeke was a tall, muscular kid with blonde, spikey hair.
Jess laughed a little harder. “Yeah, let me guess: Leon told you?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” Leon walked up with Aerith, Yuffie, and Cid walking behind. “I think you’re friends would like to know how you’re doing.”
Leon and Jess hugged. “Man, I’m getting a little tired of hugging people,” Jess laughed.
“Guys! The whole town is throwing a beach party here tonight!” Kairi said.
“Awesome!” Sora said. He turned to the King, Donald, and Goofy. “You’re staying, right?”
“Of course we are!” Donald said. “We wouldn’t want to miss it.”

It was an hour after sunset and Jess was walking along the beach. She was holding her boots while walking in the ocean; a cool breeze blew and she shivered. A burst of laughter was heard; Jess looked over and saw the torches blazing a fire and everyone in a circle talking.
Footsteps came from behind, but before she could turn around, Jess was being hugged in someone’s arms. She looked up to see Riku.
“Gee, do you want me to get a heart attack?” she laughed.
“Sorry,” Riku said, still holding Jess.
They walked along the beach talking for a few minutes before they reached a small part of the island. It had a tree that was bent, so it was easy to sit on. Riku climbed up and sat on the tree and helped Jess get up as well.
Jess looked up at the stars and got lost in thought; just as she did the night before her first encounter with Moritz.
Riku looked at her. “What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing in particular. I just like looking at the stars; its hard to believe that most of them are worlds. There’s so many of them,” Jess said.
“Yeah,” Riku said. A moment after debating with himself, he put his arm around Jess’s shoulder. Unexpectedly to Riku, she slid closer to him and rested her hand on his arm.
They sat in silence, admiring the stars. Riku looked at Jess, and she looked back in return. Their eyes locked, and their faces grew closer, closer…

What’s coming up in the Finale of A New Journey: The King, Donald, and Goofy leave the Destiny Islands, but Jess decides to stay behind and hang out with the gang. Even though they know that the heartless are still around, they are unaware of the new dangers that lurk near them…
